***This is the second last chapter of Precious, but you'll within 24 hours be able to buy Precious + the last chapter and read it before everyone else***

Jason's POV

I sat on my bed and looked out the window. Down at the frozen lake with the crows that jumped around on the thick ice, and frightened flew away if a withered leaf came sliding near them.

With a groan, I let myself fell back in my bed, and looked up at the ceiling.

I knew Christine was right. We could no longer be together. Not just because of our problems, but because it was too dangerous. I wish I could just hold her in my arms and promise her that I would protect her from everything that might hurt her. But I couldn’t. I couldn’t promise it because it wasn’t true. Desied was stronger and he had the compass. And as long as he had it, but not the key, he wouldn’t stop hunting Christine.

Flashback

"The compass, last time it was opened was almost 80 years ago. It was owned by a girl named Idalie. She was reportedly the girlfriend of the leader of the North, Eric. Idalie had the key til compass, and guess who happens two be the only one in Stratford, who has a great-grandmother named Idalie? "Calvin said, and leaned back in the creaking wooden chair.

End of flashback

I didn’t know if Desied knew that Idalie was Christine's great-grandmother. It didn’t even seem like Christine knew it yet. Not after she asked why I thought Desied was after her. I know I lied and told her it was because Desied might though I had told her, but I wouldn’t involve her in this anymore. She might break my heart, but no one deserves to live in fear.

I had decided to end this. I had promised to protect Christine and I was going to do that. I jumped up from my bed and went down to the basement; to get the bomb ready. The last week had made it clear to me: it was now, if I should to do something about this. For the last 3 days, I’ve gotten pictures sent. I didn’t know whom their where from before today. The first day I had gotten a picture of Christine and I when we were at Le Bon -a very exclusive restaurant down town. The picture is showing me putting a napkin over the prices at Christine's menu card. The next day, another photo was thrown into our mail slot. The picture was again of Christine and me. Christine smiling widely and are stretching her arms, wanting me to carry her. I grin back at her, as I’m about to pick her up. Although it was so creepy that someone had taken these pictures of us, I could not help but smile when I saw that picture. I slid my finger over Christine’s face, wanting to go back to that moment and just froze the time. Back to the time when we had no worries, when everything was just about Christine and Jason. Today I got another picture. It showed Christine and I on the wooden pier by the lake. It was obviously that we were arguing because Christine was pushing me so it almost looked like I was about to fall into the water. I remembered the day. It was after I for the first time had beaten up Elliott and Christine got furious. I smiled to myself, good ol’ days. It was also the day I took Christine’s virginity. Oh, how I missed having Christine’s naked body pressed against mine. Her magical touches and her soft moans. But there was something different about this picture. Because on the back of the picture something was written:

"Take care of what’s precious to you before it's too late"

I also got an envelope that day. When I opened it a small picture flew out and landed on the floor. I held a hand to my mouth and closed my eyes. It had showed Christine from the day she was kidnapped. She lay on the floor with a cloth around her mouth. Her hands were tied and her eyes were only half open. There was also a paper with an address in the envelope. And that decided the matter me. I would end this nightmare and save Christine. Even if it costs me my life.

Christine's POV

"You did what?" I exclaimed when I talked to Elliott on the phone.

"I reported him. The police are already planning to go and arrest him! They’ll storm the house when they least expect it and arrest him!” Elliott enthusiastic replied in the other end of the phone.

"What, why, how did you even get the wire and the camera?" I stuttered, and bit my fingernails. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. It couldn’t be true I was in complete shock.

"I took the wire from the basement just before we ran upstairs. And when the other boys left me alone in the woods I noticed that you had dropped the camera." Elliott answered.

"You just didn’t..." I whispered and closed my eyes shut.

"Christine, I have to go now! Lets meet later today. See you."

I didn’t even answer him. I just hung up. Elliott had reported Jason to the police… He actually did it. My heart was pounding hurtfully fast and I grabbed a pillow in frustration. Why was I ruining everything for Jason? I couldn’t let Elliott do this.... I had to do something. I couldn’t let them arrest Jason! This was my entire fault. I had to put this right. I got up from my bed, but my grandfather knocked on my door and stepped in.

"Do you have a minute?" He asked with a slight smile, and shut the door behind him. It didn’t look like I had a choice.

I looked at him in amazement and I shook my head. "I have to find Jason." I quietly whined.

My grandfather nodded. "I know that." He sighed.

I looked amazed at him. He knew that?

"And I will help you Christine. But first, you’ll have to listen." My grandfather said.

I looked at my watch and nodded. I had to find Jason as soon as possible. Oh God, what have I done.

"I promised your grandmother I would never tell you or anyone else this, but it must look like I have to." My grandfather smiled, and shot me a serious glance.

"I know that you and Jason have had some problems since... you were kidnapped. And I can’t promise I can fix this mess, but maybe I know something that can benefit you." My grandfather said and sat down beside me on the bed.

I nodded vigorously, desperate for anything that could help Jason.

"But you have to be prepared, because this information is dangerous and strictly confidential. Very few people know about this, and therefore, you must promise me that when you use this information, you use it because of love. Nothing else." My grandfather continued, and folded his hands. "You promise me that?"

"I promise." I whispered and put my arms around my legs.

"Okay, I suppose you know that Jason is part of the North," My grandfather mumbled, making me gasp, “How did you know that?”

"When I was younger, I was a part of The North. That’s how I met your grandmother. Your grandmother was actually the daughter of the leader in The North. Anyway, The North, South, East and West gangs have existed in almost hundred years. As I told you before it was your great-grandfather, Eric, who was leader of the North 80 years ago. Eric and the leader of South, Drake Desied, once found a compass called “The Precious Compass”. I assume you’ve heard of it?” My grandfather said, looking at me.

I nodded hectic, wanting him to continue.

“Eric and Drake both tried the compass individually. But there was a problem, it showed them both the same thing; Idealie Sprouce, your great-grandmother. She was about 20 years old back then, not much older than you are now. She was a very beautiful and strong woman. I see her a lot in you." My grandfather smiled, and removed a wisp of my hair from my face.

"Eric and Drake began fighting because Idealie. That’s also the reason North and South still aren’t talking. Eric and Drake both did their best to win Idalie’s heart. Drake had noticed that Idealie always wore a ring with her first initial, an ‘I’, on. Therefore Drake gave her an incredibly beautiful and expensive music box, with this special effect that when you lift up the little dancing ballerina, and place the ring instead, the locked drawer in the music box magical opens. But Idealie didn’t have eyes for Drake and his gifts. She loved Eric. Eric, who had the compass hid it in The North's house and the key there is necessary to open the compass, he gives to Idealie. Idealie gives back the music box to Drake, but he doesn’t know that she has put the key into the secret drawer in the music box, that no one can open without her ring."

I was stunned and had my mouth wide open, listening to every word my grandfather said.

"When you came home that night, after the kidnapping, you muttered something about the Precious compass and its key, and I just knew that I had to give you this." My grandfather sighed, and slid his hand down into his pant’s pocket, and pulled up small silver ring with the letter "I" on it.

"It all makes sense now." I whispered breathlessly, as he handed me the ring, and got up from the bed.

"I've told you what I know. Now it's up to you what you want to do." My grandfather and smiled weakly at me.

I gave him a tight hug, and hurried towards my door.

"I owe you my life, Grandpa!" I yelled, as I rushed out into the hallway.

My grandfather nodded and followed me. "Just promise me that you’ll take care of yourself." He said with a faint smile.

I nodded eagerly and quickly put on my shoes and jacket. "There's just something I have to do first." I yelled, and was about to pull down in the door handle when someone stopped me.

“Where are you going?” A light voice spoke.

I turned around and saw Emily in a pink ballerina costume, eating a cookie.

“Uhm, I, uhm. I’ve been deeply unfair towards my best friend and I… I really hope he’ll forgive me.” I sighed, closing.

Emily tapped my leg and I kneeled down beside her. She removed my hair from ear and whispered. “Give Jayjay this one. Then he’ll forgive you.”

She took a step back and handed me her half-eaten. I was about to open my mouth to say something but shut it again.

“Thank you Emily, I’m sure this will help.” I smiled and winked. Emily nodded satisfied before she ran back into her room.

Putting the cookie in my jacket pocket I ran out the front door, and out into the fresh air. My grandfather was stood in the doorway and waved before he closed the door behind me.

It all made sense to me now. Idealie. She was the answer. That’s why Desied thought I had the key to the compass. R. J. Desied must be Drake Desieds grandson. Drake Desied would have been 100 years old today. 80 years ago, when he was the leader of South he was 20 years old. Then he had children at the age of 30. 30 years later, his children had children. Then Drake was 60 years old. When his grandchildren turned 40, as the Desied I know probably is, Drake Desied would’ve been 100 years. It fitted with the ages. I looked down at the ring I had on my finger with the shiny "I" initial on. I knew what I had to do. I could save Jason. I just hoped it wasn’t too late.
