Summary
Maame Esi has been ripped away from her family. In fact, it was her own mother who sold her for some money to save her dying father and now Maame Esi is all alone at Capecoast Castle awaiting her time to be taken through the door of no return. It is the year 1760 and the British are in the Gold Coast (now Ghana) looking for slaves to send to the Americas. Rape is a common practice from the slave owners to the slave girls. But what happens when John Smith actually falls in love with Maame Esi? Will the two of them be able to endure this forbidden love?
