Evan woke up to bright lights shining in his eyes. He groaned and tried to sit up, but he was held back by something. He opened his eyes and saw wires and tubes connected to his arms and head.
"Evan you're awake!" Cynthia cried. He squeezed his eyes shut. It was too much. There was so much noise and light, he didn't like it.
"Evan, honey, are you okay?" He started hyperventilating and Cynthia got up and pressed a red button on the wall to call the nurse in. She came in quickly, and upon seeing Evan, she called for a doctor.
"Hey, hey. My name is Trina. I'm one of your nurses. Can you tell me your name?"
"C-Connor." He whispered.
"Uhm, no..you're name is Evan."
"Wanna see him. Connor." Evan looked to Cynthia. He needed to know he was okay.
"Connor is my son," Cynthia informed the nurse. "And Evans boyfriend. He was in the accident too. He's right next door."
Evan opened his eyes and tried to get up.
"I need to see him," Trina pushed his shoulders back lightly.
"Evan, you can't get up yet."
"Why? I feel fine. Is Connor okay?"
"Relax, Evan. Everything is fine."
"What happened to Jared? To Ferb? Is Connor okay?" No one was giving him a straight answer and it was upsetting him. He just needed to know.
"Hey, how about we let you wake up, and then once you're feeling a bit better, then we can talk about what happened." Cynthia suggested. Realizing that was the best he was likely to get, Evan agreed. The nurse looked relieved.
A man in a white coat walked inside the room.
"Hello, Evan. I hear you've finally woken up."
"H-how long was I out?"
"Just two days."
"Two days?!"
"Yes, Evan. Your body went into some sort of shock. You fell asleep in the ambulance and we couldn't wake you up. When you got back here, we set up and IV and just waited for you to wake up on your own."
"Where's my mom?" Evan asked. She should be here.
"She just left twenty minutes before you woke up. She went home to take a shower and get some food. She'll be back soon, sweetie." Cynthia smiled at him.
"Can I go home yet?" Evan asked. He hated hospitals. He'd gone a few times for really bad anxiety attacks and once when he was a kid and had pneumonia. He never liked the smell or how busy it always was.
"Not yet, Evan." The doctor laughed. "You just woke up. We have to run a couple tests and make sure you're okay. While you were asleep, we did a few just to make sure you weren't bleeding internally."
"What? Why?"
The doctor checked his chart then looked at Evan.
"You were beat up right?"
"No, I stopped it in time before Ferb could do anything. He only hurt Jared and Connor."
The doctor frowned and Cynthia was looking at him in concern.
"Evan, that's not what happened. You were attacked by that guy quite a bit before you managed to take them out. Do you not remember that?"
Evan shook his head. It was all a blur, really.
The doctor set down his chart and whispered something to the nurse. She nodded and left the room.
"I'm going to help you take your gown off, and nurse Trina went to get a mirror." The doctor helped Evan remove the front of his hospital gown. He was really sore and moving his arms hurt quite a bit. Odd.
The nurse returned with a mirror and Evan saw the entire part of his stomach was bruised, much like it was the first time it happened. It hadn't turned funny colors quite yet. It was still purple and blue. Unfortunately it looked quite familiar.
Evan sighed.
"Not again."
"Again?" Cynthia asked. Evan realized his mistake.
"What? I didn't..."
"Evan..." the doctor looked at him curiously.
"I-I don't know what I'm s-saying." Evan laughed nervously. "I must still b-be in shock."
"Evan, has this happened before?" The doctor looked at him sternly.
He hung his head.
"Yeah."
Cynthia sucked in a deep breath.
"Evan, why didn't you say anything? What happened?"
Evan launched into the story of how it all started, back that one day when Ferb cornered him while Connor was in detention.
"That makes sense now." The doctor muttered, flipping through pages on his clipboard.
"What does?"
"We took an X-ray of your chest when we saw the bruising because we wanted to make sure you didn't break any ribs. The X-ray showed up saying nothing was broken but you had two fractured ribs that were in the process of healing. Have you been sore since that day?"
Evan thought back.
"Yeah, I guess."
The doctor nodded.
"We're going to run a few more tests later. For now, you should get some rest." Nurse Trina helped Evan get his gown back on, and offered to bring him something to eat. He accepted the offer. He was kind of hungry.
Cynthia sat down when they left, holding her head in her hands.
"I can't believe this had been going on for so long and I didn't know." She said.
"We didn't tell anyone, we didn't want anyone to worry."
"I could have helped, maybe we could have stopped it earlier-"
Evan shook his head.
"It's okay. Everything worked out." Evan paused. "How's Connor and Jared?"
"Jared's fine, just a bit bruised. He was let go yesterday after his tests came back that he was all fine."
"And Connor?" Evan held his breath, waiting for the bad news.
"He's been put in a medically induced coma because the doctors are afraid that if he wakes up, he'll be in so much pain his body won't be able to handle it."
Evan stared at her blankly.
"What happened?"
She tears up a bit.
"That boy, Ferb. He did a lot of damage. He must have thrown Connor around quite a bit and for a long time. He broke a few ribs, and his nose, and there was a giant gash on his forehead."
Evan nodded slowly.
"I think he was getting beat up every day for a few weeks. He didn't tell me either, until that day."
Cynthia let out a little sob.
"My poor baby!" Evan opened his arms and Cynthia gave him a hug. "Thank you, I needed that." Evan smiled and handed her a tissue.
"Evan, you're awake!" Heidi exclaimed upon arriving in the room.
Evan grinned.
"Yea, I woke up a little bit after you left."
"Oh I'm sorry I was gone, I knew I never should have left!" She took Cynthia's place and squeezed Evan lightly.
"It's okay, mom. I'm glad you were taking care of yourself."
She smiled through her tears, then her face changed. She frowned.
"Don't you ever do anything like that again, young man! Do you know how worried I was about you? You say something like that then leave the house. And then I get a call that you've fainted and are being rushed to the hospital. I swear if you weren't already hurt..."
Evan grinned sheepishly at her.
"I'm sorry mom. I didn't mean to scare you." Her scowl softened and she smiled at him.
"I know you didn't, honey. I was just worried about you."
"I'm sorry."
"I love you."
"I love you, too."

Okay, so I think I've got one chapter left in this story...I'm so sad for it to be over!!
School starts tomorrow for me, boo. Is anyone else starting soon or is it just me 😭
