the townsfolk would stick their grey haired, rotten fleshed heads out the window, while we ran across the rings of saturn 'til our ankles mangled, and the muscles in our limbs atrophied. feeling as if we could fly, with cotton wind between our hair, and silver stars between our teeth. at noon we swim in jupiter's ocean of a sky, then dry off when mars breathes hot on our skin, we'd wave it bye and make it just in time for mama's honeysuckle tea. then you'd kiss me on the cheek and i'd feel like i'm flying even higher, but the door opens too quickly when mama pulls me inside and i'd have to explain where i'd been all day. mama would never let me see you but i'd sneak out of the window every night because i would trade any moment just to feel how i feel in your arms.
