'AWAKENED WITH A KISS' - Chapter 3

Apparently Lauren did not know how to keep quiet, I instantly knew she had spilled the beans by the way she acted around me during the afternoon. She was fidgety and seemed out of it, always stuttering when I spoke to her.

What happened to friends don't let friends do stupid things alone?! Did it get flushed away down the toilet along with Lauren's lying skills?

I actually didn't really care, I just think it's pretty fun to notice that your perfect best friend has some flaws once in a while, if you know what I mean.

Lauren is absolutely flawless, other than her lack lying skills, but isn't that a good thing? That meant she would always be honest and tell the truth. Although she would make a bad criminal.

Seriously, it's just Clay. I'm pretty sure he's very same boy who ran around in his undies with his mother's bra on his head and a blanket tied around his neck while yelling Superman's theme song at the top of his lungs.

The only thing he could probably do about this situation is notice that his spidey senses are tingling, or think that we're insane. I'd prefer the first one that would be pretty funny but not likely to happen.

I guess I didn't want to tell him last night because I didn't want to hear another one of Clay's I-told-you-so lectures. He can be such a know it all sometimes, it gets real annoying.

It's almost as annoying as the girl who accused me of wearing the same clothes as her in middle school, newsflash it's called a uniform. But justice was served by me making a few adjustments to her attire, a lime slushy can make things so much more... Different.

Well the point is I think I liked it better when Clay used to accuse me for being the next Joker and not for getting straight F's on my exams.

I was most likely going to hear from Clay when he got back from University. Lauren probably told him before he left when I was still fast asleep. The man, whose name I still needed to acquire, was still out of it, not passed out though, sleeping. How much sleep did a teenage guy need?

Lauren had not been awake around the time the strange guy was, but Clay was, but he was in 'such a hurry' that Lauren had forgotten to ask Clay for his name, or maybe they had been busy talking about other things... Eh, who cares?

That was all I had been able to get out of her today and that was pretty useless information if you tell me. Another tell-tale sign that she had revealed my little secret was the fact that she avoided me like I had the plague.

Which was difficult for her since we were both in her small flat but she managed, I had to give her that. She had already taken three long showers, eleven trips to the toilet and four trips downstairs 'to check if the mail had arrived', not that I was counting or anything...

But there was nothing else to do! Lauren was avoiding me, there was nothing good on T.V other than infomercials on bras for old people with saggy boobs and steam mops for the families who have devils as children. I already pigged out on all the yummy food in the fridge. Other than the lack of entertainment, I was much to distracted to do anything productive.

I felt giddy and jumpy the all through the afternoon. The feeling of anticipation gnawed at my insides as I waited for the strange man to finally awaken.

I wonder if another kiss would do the trick... I immediately scolded my self for ever thinking of such a thing. Stupid me. Oh mighty Lord give me something to do!

So for the rest of the afternoon I was to be found moping around Lauren's flat and while the owner of the flat itself emptied her bladder way more than necessary.

I was tempted to take a peek at the strange man who was sleeping in the guest bedroom, but I had a feeling that it would only lead to more disasters and trust me, I’ve had enough of them to last me the rest of the year.

I often caught myself turning the doorknob, only stopping myself at the last minute, not knowing how the hell I ended up there. He was like the North to my magnet, I always ended up walking towards him.

"Soooo bored!" I whined to myself for about the millionth time today, while raiding the kitchen in the hopes of finding a hidden stash of chocolate. I'd actually prefer Clay to home right this very minute to give me a spanking rather than spend another minute drowning in absolutely nothing.

"Are you in need of any assistance Madame?" The sound of the supposedly sleeping man's voice reached my ears and I jumped around about ten feet in the air like I had just been electrocuted. It was quite startling since I could pretty much say that I was alone the whole time, it was real quiet. When the hell did he get there?

I swiftly spun around from where I had been standing only to find the guy I had kissed standing before me dressed in Clay's clothing and man alive did he look FINE. With a capital F, I, N- okay I think you get it and besides everyone knows how to spell fine, only the cheerleaders need help with spelling seeing as the only thing they do in cheer training is practice how to spell 'Mighty Tigers'.

"Uhh..." I said stupidly, glancing around the room, planning any escape routes. Too bad he was blocking the door and there was no chance of me surviving an eleven stories high fall.

"Um, m-me okay. I m-mean, I'm o-okay." I stuttered as if my mouth was having seizures. And I accused Lauren for stuttering, damn you mouth.

Embarrassed, I turned away from him, my face heating up, resembling Rudolph's glowing nose. I grabbed a glass from the kitchen bench and filled it messily with water.

"Wow, what is this odd contraption?" The glass fell from my hands and clattered into the sink due to yet another fright and it hasn't even been five minutes, at this rate I was going to die of a heart failure.

I looked up, not realizing how close he was and my breathing instantly hitched. No boy in my entire existence was capable of doing such a thing to me, to me of all people.

I was the girl who never loved, dated, let alone crushed on a guy and then all of sudden this boy, who’s name I still didn’t know, had the capabilities of making me feel giddy and nervous? Oh my, I’m turning into a girl. A girl, girl.

That dreadful thought vanished completely as soon as I saw the look in his eyes, he was mesmerized, by a tap. A tap. A tap for god-sakes. How hard did he hit his head?

Speaking of the tap, it was still gushing with water and I knew how Lauren felt about wasting water having an effect on the environment so I reached over and turned it off which strengthened his look of astonishment.

“Wow.” He moved his hand towards it slowly, afraid that he might break it if he merrily touched it. Hasn’t he ever seen a tap before? People these days. You never know what to expect.

“I’M HOME.” The door slammed open and Clay’s voice rang throughout the apartment, startling the living daylights out of me, something that has been happening a lot lately. A lot.

I moved away from him, unable to handle the close proximity. I ran my hands through my hair hoping to ease the stress. I am so dead. Not from the heart attacks caused by all the surprise, but from Clay’s wrath.

Clay’s a good guy, but sometimes he can be scary, extremely scary in fact. Especially if his anger is directed at you.

From the corner of my eye I saw the strange boy withdraw from his fascination of the tap and he stood back up next to me. I shifted from one foot to the other and shook out my hands, my nerves were beginning to act up again.

“Who is..” I shushed him and he kindly obliged. I scrunched my face, listening hard for any movements. I could hear Clay moving in the hallway, probably hanging his coat, then his footsteps heading towards the kitchen... Crap. I was hoping he’d take a shower first, but of course he was hungry from a long day of hard work.

“Charlie. I was hoping to see you soon. What on Earth did yo-” He abruptly stopped speaking. “Oh. Hi William, you’re awake.” Ah, so that’s his name, William. I guess he looks like a Willy to me.

“Yes, indeed. It’s a pleasure seeing you again.” He greeted politely. “Now, do you mind explaining to me how this peculiar contraption works?” He pointed to the tap, a puzzled expression filling his handsome features.

Oh my gosh-ness. Did I just call someone handsome other than Chace Crawford? Something strange is happening to me and I have got to get down to the bottom of this as soon as possible.

“It’s a tap. You know water comes out of it. As in the water you drink..” Clay explained slowly, as if he were talking to a five year old.

“Yes, I understand. But wherever does it come from?” Clay and I exchanged an incredulous look. Is this guy for real?

“The sea, duh. Where else would it come from?” I answered this time, rolling my eyes at the stupid question. Maybe that quote ‘there are no stupid questions, just stupid people’ had some form of truth behind it, but then again I think everyone is stupid, question or no question.

The good looking ones are always a let down, but who am I to talk? It’s not like I have had any experiences whatsoever to make any judgements or statements. I can’t believe I just thought that. Oh my. I need to prank someone, fast.

“But the sea is..” He drifted off, his eyes transfixed on what was happening outside of the apartment window.

“I’ll deal with you later Charlie. Where’s Lauren?” Trust me, I’ve been asking that too. I shrugged and turned around to clean up the mess I made earlier. I may be many things such as a super cool badass, but a slob is definitely not one of them.

Clay muttered something about taking a shower and Lauren was MIA so this left me and Willy boy alone. Again. And at this thought a million butterflies erupted in my stomach, immediately making me nervous. Stupid hormones.

I should probably take this opportunity to apologize for giving knocking him out last night with the car door. But then that would lead to the events that took place beforehand including the time when I had given my lipginity to a sleeping stranger. Which even I have to admit is plain embarrassing, trust me, I of all people should know.

He hasn’t even said anything about it, yet. But it would be entirely wrong of me if I didn’t apologize since I did after all harm his physical health amongst other things that should not and will not be mentioned, unless asked, forcibly if I may add.

Maybe he had forgotten about it completely.. He had hit his head pretty hard on the concrete, seriously, it was bleeding. But then that gave me more of reason to apologize for my rash actions. I am after all Charlie freaking Jennings, I am known for making stupid decisions.

I gave into the my morals, this may surprise you but I as a matter of fact I do have morals that I often follow when I feel like it or in this case because of the latter. I would be pissed if someone had knocked me unconscious and not apologize for doing so.

I say that but it doesn’t necessarily mean I would forgive them.. Besides, I’m not the one who gets knocked out, I do the knocking out, clearly.

“Hey, about last night...” I trailed off nervously.  I could feel his stare, hot on my back. “Sorry!” I squeaked out, diving straight into the deep end. Silence. I counted to ten for his reply but he never said anything so I looked up at him only to find him staring at me with a confused expression.

“Uhh..”I said awkwardly. His gaze never faltered and I found myself staring into his mesmerizing, frosty blue eyes.

Knowing that I’d probably do something stupid soon, I broke off the eye contact, casting my eyes downwards, pulling at the loose strings on the hem of my shirt. Well that totally wasn’t awkward.

We both stood in deafening silence and I hoped, no, prayed that either Clay or Lauren would come back soon. I would have said something, but what exactly? I already said sorry and I definitely did not want to explain why, because that would just lead onto more awkward situations. It was his call next, to either forgive and forget or to reject my apology, preferably the first.

“Charlie, is it?” The silence was finally shattered and the way my name rolled off of his tongue sounded like the angels singing, you could have punched me at the very moment and I would’ve just laughed it off. Did I just... Hormones, that’s all I can say.

Knowing that I wouldn’t be able to trust my voice, I nodded meekly, replaying his voice speaking my name over and over in my head.

“Well Charlie, what exactly are you apologizing for?” My head quickly snapped up. Those words instantly brought me out of my day dream.

Did that mean he didn’t know? Or maybe he had forgotten? Or did he just want me to elaborate? Or did he want to know what exactly which part of last night I was apologizing for? So many possibilities.

Well not that those really mattered. His question gave me the opportunity to ditch my attempt at apologizing and forget about last night completely, but my morals wouldn’t shut up and besides, Lauren would have made me do it at some point, might as well do it while she’s not around to make it worse.

“Are you saying you don’t remember what happened?” I guess that was the safest question to ask. He had hit his head pretty hard and if he had forgotten that gave me another opportunity to ditch the apology and explanation of the events, so it benefited me in a way.

“No.” He scratched his head in confusion. “Now that I think about it, I don’t remember anything at all.”

Am I that strong? Or is the concrete that hard?

Either way, whoops.

TEASER:

“You actually mean I am going to attend an actual school?” He asked, dazed at this fact. Why does he seem so happy about going to school? If I could have it my way I would never step near, let alone in any form of school.

“Yes, how many times do you need ask? But before you get carried away with that prospect, we need to fix that.” Lauren pointed at his body in disgust. He looked perfectly fine to me, although his clothes do need a bit of an update.

“Fix what?” He asked, peering down nervously. I would be nervous if I were him. It’s Lauren, when it comes to your outer appearance, you never know what could go wrong, or right, which is likely.

“Oh honey, you’re in need of a makeover.”
