Mona walked into her house timidly, not really curious as to why her home was unlocked, cause she knew that both Moozlie and Kat had keys to her home

She found them sitting in her kitchen, drinking on some wine, waiting on her, "Hey" she waved, still a little timid but trying to compose herself

Her heart was racing, but seeing as this was something that she needed to do, she needed to find out about, she tried to calm herself down enough to ask the questions that need to be asked

"Hey" they both said in unison, "It's been a minute since we've -" Kat began, but Mona cut her off by holding her hand up and shaking her head

"I didn't come here for that" she began, "I came here for answers, and expect to get them" she folded her arms, not even bothering to sit on the isle chairs in the kitchen, but rather she stood by the door

Kat looked at Moozlie, who looked at Mona stoic like, "What do wanna know?" Kat asked, knowing that if Moozlie was the one to talk, this would not end well with regards to their friendship

Mona sighed, preparing herself for the kinda shit that might make her see her friends in a different light, "Everything"

There was an eerie silence between the friends, before Moozlie took the bottle of red wine that they were drinking, "This is gonna be a long conversation" she held the glass that she way drinking out of in the her other hand, nudged Kat for her to get Mona a glass, then walked out the kitchen to the lounge

Both Kat and Mona followed behind Zlie, but Mona made sure to keep a short distance between her and them

Once Zlie got to the lounge, she sat on one of the couches and crossed her legs watching Kat and Mona take their seats too, before beginning, "I'm from a family of...assassins, for lack of a better word" she confessed

"My family has worked for the Lega family from as far back as I could think, and bare in mind that I can't think that far as I am still young. But according to my grandmother, my family has worked for the Legae family for about three generations" Mona nodded, listening intently to everything that Zlie was saying

Moozlie looked over at Kat, basically asking for permission to tell her side of the story. With a nod from Kat, Moozlie went further into her story, "I met her when we were ten. My family introduced me to her and her family, so that we could do the task that was given to us" she explained further

Mona's hand began to shake, but she clasped her hands together, and placed them on her lap to stop from shaking

Both Kat and Moozlie noticed it, but pretended as though they didn't, "See" Kat spoke up, "even though Rich didn't agree with your mother marrying your father, he did, however, want to ensure that you stayed safe, hence we were put in your life" she rubbed her hands together

Mona shut her eyes, her heart sinking as the realisation of what her so called “friends” were to her, "Y'all are my bodyguards" It was more of a statement, than a question

"No" Moozlie looked at Kat, scooting forward in her seat, "That's not what we saying. We were put in your life because that's what we were meant to be, but the more we hung out, the more you became our friend" she spoke with her hands, still looking between Kat and Mona

Mona couldn't take what she just heard. It was painful to think that the people that she thought of as friends, were stationed to protect her like she wasn't born to be a gangster as well

"So we were never really friends?" Mona was on the brink of hyperventilating, she tried to stand, but her knees were weak, so she ended up sitting back down

Both Kat and Moozlie got off their seats to see if she's okay, "Momo?" they spoke to her concerned, but before they could get to her, she put her hand up, stopping them in their tracks

The girls both looked at one another, but stopped and sat back down, "I don't need your help" She clutched her chest, trying to get her breathing in order

"Next thing you know, you'll both be lying to me, telling my that I got high blood pressure" she heaved with every word, trying to calm herself down

Kat and Moozlie looked at one another, first smiling, then they burst out laughing. Mona mugged them, but she couldn't help but laugh along with them, "Shit ain't funny" she chuckled, going back to being serious, or at least trying to

"Nuh, she right" Kat tried to catch her breath, loving the fact that this was the first time in a long time that her and her friends laughed together, "What else do you wanna know?" She asked seriously

Mona smirked, cause for the first time in two months, she began to understand why her family was trying to protect her, even if it made her feel like a child

She sighed, "Nothing more. I'm sorry if I blew things out of portion, it's just frustrating to be treated like a child" she said with aggregation

"It was all done to protect you" Moozlie explained

Mona scoffed, looking at Zlie out the corner of her eye, "See" she crossed her legs, "I was trained to protect myself from the age of three, been using a gun since I was ten" she further explained

"I don't get why y'all were brought into my life, when I can take any nigga down" she shook her head, "Brian lets me do my own thing" she shocked her friends, making them wonder

Kat frowned, "Yo, are you for real right now?" She cocked an eyebrow, "You telling us about that nigga" she practically yelled at Mona, "Do we look like we wanna hear anything about him?" She kissed her teeth

Mona's head reared back, a little surprised that Kat still didn't like Bri, "First of all, ain't no need for all that hate, especially since I'll be marrying him soon" she showed off her engagement ring, "And secondly, I don't get why you hate Brian like you do, and neither do I care, cause at the end on the day I'm still marrying him" she said

Moozlie tried to calm her friends down, fearing that Kat's reaction to what Mona had said about Brian would cause a bigger rift than what was already there, "Ait babe, if Brian didn't let you do your own thing, then you wouldn't have gotten kidnapped" it was a clear statement that had Mona seething on the inside, but calm and calculating on the outside

"Well if you recall, Brian had shit to do back home, and by the time he came back I was already taken" she said smugly, "He even waited a few weeks before coming through and rescued me" she boasted

"And from what I've been told, he wasn't to blame for that one...daddy was" she spoke facts, and they knew it

Kat rolled her eyes, "Yeah, whatever" she looked away, "If he such a big deal in Cape Town, then why didn't he save you using his “people” as he likes to say" she made air quotes using her fingers

Mona laughed humourless, "Because he knew that if he didn't involve y'all, there would've been a bigger problem then not liking him cause he's engaged to me" she said deadpan

Kat took a deep breath in, sensing herself walk on the edge of going off on Mona. Silence fell upon the girls, but Mona had a question to ask, "So y'all gonna come to the wedding? Or ga ko needa di bridesmaids?" She held her breath, hoping that they would see how much she wanted her friends there
(Or ma I not gonna need bridesmaids?)

Yes, things hadn't been okay between the friends, but she understood where her family are was coming from by hiring Kat and Zlie to protect her. It is their profession, but her family wanted to ensure that she stayed safe

Kat cocked her head to the side, "So you going ahead with the wedding?" The question came out though she was irritated, but all Mona could do was cock an eyebrow and point at her ring

"Out here asking stupid ass questions" Mona mumbled, shaking her head

Moozlie held Kat's arm, her way of saying that they needed to support their friend rather then fight her on what she wants, "We'll be your bridesmaids" she agreed, making Mona squeal in excitement

"However, this does not mean that we love the fact that you're marrying him" Moozlie added, just so that Mona knew where her and Kat stood

Mona rolled her eyes, but she didn't care. She was just happy that her friendship with her friends was, somewhat, repaired

Once Mona felt like everything was out the way for her, she relaxed a bit, and enjoyed some quality time with her friends. These are the moments she missed

"Nigga?" Pac spoke to Brian, while chewing on some chips, "What is it with you and people always trying to put a bullet in your brain?" He asked, stuffing more chips in his mouth

Brian frowned, a little disgusted by the slob that Pac was being right now, especially seeing as he was such a clean guy, "Are you trying to make me puke?" He cocked an eyebrow in question

Pac smacked his teeth, brushing some of the chips off his beard, "Answer the damn question" he mugged Bri, looking himself over as he brush some crumbs off his clothes

Bri continued to look through his phone, making sure that shit was running smoothly while he was in Jozi, "Because, I'm about to marry the granddaughter of the most feared king pin in all of S.A., who also just so happens to be Niko's daughter as well" he stated

"Hell, I came all this way to broaden my business, and not step on Rich's toes. Now, her dad doesn't like me, and Rich doesn't really have a problem with me as long as I keep Mona happy, and keep pissing Niko off" he shook his head, confused at how crazy things have been ever since him and Mona met up again over seven months ago

Yeah it had been such a short time from when they linked up the second time, and now being engaged to her. Shit just seems a whole lot crazier than he thought it would be

He sighed, "Her folks don't like me for shit, but her grandfather just gave me the okay to expand, even if it means that I have to do so over Niko's head" he put his phone on the armrest of the couch he was sitting on

Shifting forward in his seat, he put his elbows on the tops of his knees, "This shit is crazy bruh, like" he ran his hand over his short hair, closing his eyes for a beat

"I love Mona with everything that I never even knew I had, but her family is crazier than mine" he chuckled

Pac joined him, finding it a little strange that his boy was finally able to laugh with humour, "Boy o whipped" Pac laughed a big harty laugh
(Boy you whipped)

"Fuck you" Brian threw a pillow at Pac, who blocked with his hand

Pac's laughter got louder, happier than ever to see how Mona had affected Brian's life, "Ait nigga" he began, as his laughter died down

Brian shook his head again, "So Rich?" Bri checked his boy out the corner of his eye, seeing the change in his demeanor

The smile that was sporting his friend's face had diminished the moment Bri mentioned Rich, "What about him?" Pac looked at his boy, pissed

Brian shrugged, his mouth turning downward for emphasis, "Just asking" he could tell that Pac didn't want to talk about Rich, but Brian wanted to know what the hostility was about

"That old man thinks just because he was a hitman back in his day, that he's still got the goods like I do" he smacked his teeth, "Fucking ou topie ong tlwaela blyn"
(Fucking old man underestimates me)

Bri frowned, "How he know what you do?" He asked

Pac sighed again, "I ain't even bothered to ask" he shrugged in frustration

Brian nodded, allowing a long silence to come between them

Pac could hear his boy's mind running, and he wanted to wait for him to say something before he could answer him. But even though Pac was, and still is, a hitman, he tended to get impatient

"I'm back in the game" he admitted to not only himself, but Brian too

Brian stood, nodding his head, and went to the small bar to pour himself a glass of bourbon, "I figured" he put an empty glass up, silently asking Pac if he wanted a drink

Pac gave him a curt head nod, feeling the weight of his confession lift off his shoulders, "Nigga, you always know what's going on with me" he chuckled in relief

"What about that girl you were dating? She coming to the wedding?" Brian changing the subject, sitting back down, handing Pac his glass of bourbon

Pac rubbed on his bearded chin, "She had other plans for her life, so she suggested that we part ways" Bri could tell that it tore his boy up that he had to break up with the girl that he was prepared to marry

"It's ait, I knew she would never understand the life I lived. Kinda makes me happy to know that I didn't really tell her too much about our life" he laughed, although there was no humour

"Blunt?" Brian asked, seeing as this was the right time to ease every thought in both their minds with a young blunt

But Pac shook his head, "Can't always use that to stop the mind from roaming" he spoke honestly

Bri looked at his boy, shocked that he denied a fresh blunt to get rolled, "Shit done changed since we were younger" Brain laughed, putting his glass up in toast

Pac nodded, "Yeah it has" he too put his glass up in toast

The two best friends sat back, sipping in their bourbon, as they enjoyed each other's company in silence

"So" Mona asked as she stepped out of the bathroom, rubbing lotion on her hands, "how was hanging out with Pac today?" She asked, climbing onto their king sized bed and laid next to Brian

Brian kissed his pixie on the forehead, "It was ait. Found out that he's back to being a hitman" he confessed

Mona reared her head back, a frown between her eyebrows, "Wait, Pac's a hitman?" She was surprised to hear these news, cause in all honesty she never thought that that's what Pac did for a living

Brian smirked, looking down at his pixie, who was laying her head on his shoulder, "Babe, Pac is the most sort after hitman in the whole of South Africa" he admitted

"Oh" Mona's frown eased up a bit, but she was still shocked, "So, will he be bringing his girlfriend to the wedding?" She asked, changing the subject

He sighed, "Nuh. She broke up with him. The way I see it, she wasn't built for the life Pac and I live" he spoke honestly

Mona gently smacked him on his chest, "How could you say that?" She laughed

Brian chuckled, rubbing the spot that Mona had just hit, "Because my pixie" he moved to wrap his arms around her, "unlike you, she wasn't raised a princess" he pecked her lips

Mona blushed, loving how their bodies felt like they were moulded for each other, "Okay" she pulled back, pushing herself up on his chest, "the wedding"

Brian rolled his eyes, not really wanting to get into all that, "Babe, seriously?" He made an exasperated sound, "I'm here trying to get some nookie, and you wanna talk about the wedding" he grumbled

Even though he and Mona had yet to get intimate, their make out sessions made up for them not being intimate yet. Plus he respected Mona's wish to wait until they were married

"Bri" she mugged him, "we need to get all the wedding stuff sorted, so we prepared when the day comes in a few months" she sat up, making Brian run his hand over his face

"Do you want this wedding to hap -" Mona began, but Bri interrupted

Shaking his head, he looked at Mona angrily, "If I didn't want this wedding to happen, then I wouldn't have proposed" he stated, matter of fact

"Well it doesn't seem like" Mona pouted

"Babe, just because right now I don't want to talk about the wedding, doesn't mean that I don't want to marry you" he interrupted her again

She huffed, folding her arms angrily, "So you don't wanna hear how far we are? Fine" she got off the bed, ready to leave

Brian sighed. Ever since he proposed, he's feisty little pixie has been a bit of a handful to handle, and in a way he understood that trying to ensure that her wedding was as perfect as she could make it, was driving her crazy

"Get your ass back on this bed" Brian warned, his eyes shut to calm himself down

Mona hesitated, but ended up getting back on the bed, just making sure that there was some space between them, "Pixie, my intention to marry you has nothing to do with the wedding, cause to me all that doesn't really matter" he spoke softly

He moved closer to her, so he could hold her hands in his, "I just want to give you my last name, give you me in  a way that I would've never allowed any woman to have me. Babe for me, my love for you has nothing to do with a fucking wedding, I just want you" she could hear the sincerity in his voice, and that alone had her smiling again

"Well incase you wanted to know, the girls and I squashed a few things, and they'll be at the wedding" she felt as though a huge burden was lifted off her shoulders, "And the venue has been paid for, for the reception, plus my dress is done" she said excitedly

"The only thing that's left is your suit" she tapped on her chin, looking off in thought

He rubbed on the back of his neck, "Uhm, I kinda got that sorted, so you don't have to worry about that. Plus the groomsmen suits are sorted too, so you can check that off your list" he waved his hand dismissively

"Wait" she said surprised, "you got your suits and everything?" She frowned at him

Brian cocked an eyebrow with a nod, making Mona roll her eyes at his crazy ass, "And when were you gonna tell me? Plus who are your groomsmen?" She cocked her head to the side in question

"Uh, well obviously there's Pac" he said after a swallowing hard, "plus my brothers will be there too, but mums isn't coming cause she's not about the lifestyle" he said, fiddling with his fingers

Another shocking confession, if Brian kept shocking the hell out of her like he was, she might just have a mini heart attack, "Your brothers?" She practically whispered, "As in both of them?"

Brian looked at Mona like she was crazy, but he nodded his head, "Oh my gosh" she squealed, "Nigga, why ain't you tell me? Now I gotta rearrange the seating arrangement, and make sure that catering knows that they'll be two extra people coming. Yho Jesu" she looked panicky
(Oh Jesus)

Brian raised his eyebrows at her, amused that she was tripping over the fact that his brothers were gonna attend their wedding, "Yo, it's not that deep. My brothers and I have always been close, I just didn't want them to get caught up in my shit, so I always kept them at a distance" he shrugged

"Ncaa, that's very noble of you" she leaned forward to kiss him

He pulled her closer, making her sit on his lap, "I have to protect those I love" he kissed the side of her neck, making her squirm a little, "Now give me some loving" he gave her a head nod for her to lean closer to him

She giggled, giving in to his demand, and it didn't end there. For the first time since they met, since he first kissed her, since he proposed, Mona let Brian completely into her soul

The truth is hard to swallow, but sometimes you have to swallow the truth in order to grow as an individual
