Elizabeth's POV
"Harder! Faster!" Mom yells as I kick and punch the dummy. With one last kick it falls to the floor with a thud
I turn to my mom as she smiles proudly. " You did great honey" She says pulling me into a hug
I smile before turning serious. "Mom it's Clary's 18th birthday the protections are already wearing off. I saw her drawing runes yesterday" I say
"Elizabeth I don't know how to tell her but I am tonight" My mother, Jocelyn Fray, says and I sigh
"We have to. For now though I am going to go meet up with her and Simon to see if she got into art school. Which she probably did" I say and Mon hugs me tightly
"Stay safe and bring your stele and seraph blade. You have to protect your sister" she says and I nod going to change out of my training clothes and into some black ripped skinny jeans paired with a tank top and leather jacket
I hid my seraph blade and stele safely before walking to the small cafe
"Give me the professors' names and I will end them" I hear Simon say causing me to roll my eyes. As if.
"With a scathing email to the dean of course" He says smiling awkwardly while scratching his head
"Oh Simon! She is totally lying"I laugh ruffling Clary's hair. "Happy birthday kiddo" I say and she hugs me
"I'm 18!" She laughs and Simon frowns. "Sad face? Really?" Clary just smiles.
"Well played. Well played" He says and Clary's laughs pulling out a seat for me
"Thank you. You know it's weird. They kind of liked my assigned work, but they flipped out over the drawing for our graphic novel." She says
"You're welcome" Simon says sending her a small smirk
"This day will go down in history as the greatest 18th birthday I ever had. Which is why we are celebrating tonight"
Now that caught my attention. She shouldn't go. It's too dangerous and mom has to tell her about the shadow world
"Yes, with Maureen, after our shoe. Absolutely." He says happily and Clary wiggles her brows at him teasingly
"So what's the deal with you and Maureen?" She smirks and I stifle a laugh
My sister is so dumb to not realize Simon has feelings for her
"What deal? No deal. We sing together" He says coughing a bit awkwardly
"You seriously don't know she's been crushing on you this whole time?" Clary ask and Simon turns to me with pleading eyes but I just shrug
"W-what? No.No" he says pulling at his collar.
Clary sighs as I see her hand press down on her biscotti. It literally went into the sketchbook. Something mom taught me to do
"Hey Clare Bear I am going to look at your sketches" I say quickly grabbing the book before she realizes but she pushes it back
"You know I don't like that. Anyways, Simon how can someone as smart and perceptive as you not realize that the person sitting right in front of you is in love with you?" She asks
I feel pity for Simon as he stares lovingly into her eyes. "I gurantee you I am not the only smart perceptive person to make that mistake."
Clary then looks at her sketchbook and a small panic feeling arises when she she stares at the biscotti confused.
She then looks around the place and Simon chuckles as she stares at her latte.
"That's a latte" He says and Clary rolls her eyes
"But I could have sworn I had a biscotti" She says and I fake a quick chuckle
"You probably ate it really fast and didn't even notice" I say as Simon nods
"Happens to me all the time. When I'm happy. When I'm sad" He says and Clary laughs
"But I will replace your mythical biscotti with an actual one" He says placing one next to her latte as she mumbles a quick thank you
"You know what? Here's to you" He says gleefully raising his glass

After three years of convincing mom that I would protect Clary and that I will try my best to get her to come home as soon as possible we were finally stood outside a club
Clary, Simon and Maureen we're talking about something that Clary drew but I wasn't paying attention as three people caught my eye
My eyes widened as they had runes. The same ones I was hiding from Clary.
One of them bumps into me and I glare. "Watch were your going" I say just as the blonde one runs into Clary making her say the same thing
"Wait a minute....your just a mundane..... How can you see me?" He asks confused and I snort
"Want to know my secret?" I whisper stepping a bit closer
"By using my eyes!" I say before he glares and walks past me entering the club shouting something
"Can you believe those guys?"Clary asks and I chuckle
"You mean the imaginary guys you two were talking to?" Simon interjects
He was a mundane. Of course he couldn't see them
After a small discussion between Clary and him Clary shrugs off her jacket and grabs my hand leading me into the club
"Remember your fake IDs suck!" Simon yells as I smirk
"Why are we going in?" I ask and Clary shrugs. "To get some answers" She says
Shit. Shit. Shit
This wasn't going to end well.
Shit!
Mom is going to kill me when this doesn't end well!
"I see him let's go!" She yells running off to the curtain and grabbing onto a guys arm
I bit my lip since I could see through the glamour and saw it was a demon
"Someone works out. Cool contacts" Clary says as he leads her inside as I follow close inside
Once we enter the blonde guy was talking to a girl in a purple dress and I could tell she was a demon
Other demons were watching as a gorgeous Raven hair girl danced and suddenly my eyes met with the guy that bumped into me earlier
He was observing everything in the corner
"Last chance" a voice says and that snaps me out of my thoughts as the blonde guy pulls out his seraph blade ready to strike
"Watch out!" Clary yells as she goes to push the demon out of the way
"Clary no!" I yell pulling out my seraph blade as the demon reveals her tentacles
"Watch out" the blonde yells pushing Clary away making her land on the floor
I quickly attack the demon coming my way before kicking another one in the chest as I spin and shove the blade into the demons chest
My eyes widen when Clary picks up a seraph blade and her eyes widen when it lights up and the blonde guy throws the demon onto it making it vanish
Clary drops the blade in horror as the blonde guy continues to fight
I look to my left to see a demon about to sneak attack the Raven haired girl so I quickly kill it as she sends me a small smile
"Clary!" I yell running out as I watch her run off. I catch up just in time for her to get into a cab
I quickly enter as she stares numbly at the ground. She didn't seem to notice my presence

"And then these creepy tentacles seemed to come out of the body builder's face, and and then the guy just vaporized. After that Elizabeth pulled out a sword like the guy and started fighting the other people. I mean, I was drugged right?" Clary says all in one breath
Mom looks completely horrified as see realizes that she had to tell Clary now
"What did the markings look like on the blonde boy you were talking about?" She asks and Clary stomps her foot
"Who cares mom ok? Are you even listening to me? I think I just killed a guy! And so did Liz!" She says
"Clary did they look like this?" Mom asks gently pulling up my sleeve and running my stele over my angelic rune
"Mom what the-"
"Everything you saw tonight has a meaning and an explanation Clare Bare" I gently mumble
"I've dreaded having this conversation with you since the day you were born" Mom sighs running a hand through her dark red hair
"What is going on? Am I going insane?" Clary asks with her hands pressed to her temples
"No you're not" I say and she just mutely nods
"But the protections are wearing off. You're 18 now and you need to know the truth" I continue slouching back into the sofa
"Protections? What does that even mean? Liz, mom your scaring the hell out of me"
"I know and that's why I've put this off until the last possible minute"
Suddenly Dot rushes in with her hands sparkling purple.
"Jocelyn, look out the window. Magnus called to warn us. They found you" She says
Wait what?
"Dot, it's time" Mom says as Dot nods running off
"Okay, listen to me. You girls can't be around me. Elizabeth look after your sister. Tell her what you know" she says
"Wait mom what's happening?" I ask and she runs her hand through my dark brown locks
"I got a very powerful person angry" she says and I motion for her to continue
"What did you do?" Clary speaks up
"I hid something from hi and his followers" Mom says searching through a small box
"Followers? Why can't we just call the police?" Clary asks as mom walks towards her with a necklace that had a big purple crystal
"The policeman you need to call is Luke. Keep this and think of me when you wear it" Mom says securely putting the necklace around Clary's neck before handing me a ring
"Mom this isn't the time for more birthday gifts!" Clary yells confused and fusturated
"Both of you trust your instincts your more powerful than you think. Dot open it. Girls just know everything I've ever done, every mistake I've ever made was because I love you more than words." Mom says placing a tender kiss on both our foreheads
"Mom let me stay. I will fight with you!" I say and she shakes her head
"Always so strong El. But you have to protect your sister. Luke is in the police station ok" she says before pushing us through the portal as I quickly grab Clary's hand
"Remember I love you!"

After hearing Luke say a couple things that we wish we didn't hear we ran back to the apartment only to find it completely trashed
"Mom!" Clary yells looking around and we hear a sound making us turn around
"Dot!" Clary says sighing in relief
"They took Jocelyn" she says
"Who took her?" I demanded
"Rogue shadowhunters searching for the mortal cup"
" The mortal cup has been missing for years" I say
"What the hell are you talking about?" Clary asks taking a few steps closer to Dot.
"Think Clary. Did your mother ever talk to you about a cup? A very important cup. It's gold, almost like a chalice"
"No! No I don't know what cup Dot. Maybe one of the antiquities downstairs?" She asks
"No,no,not those. Think Clary. This could save Jocelyn" Dot emphasized
"I can't think! Someone kidnapped my mother!" Clary yells exasperated
"Our mother" I glare and Dot snarls
"You know more than you think Clary Fray" Dot says before tentacles lunged at Clary
I quickly push her out of the way and throw a punch to the demons face
"Clary run!" I say as the demon takes my moment of distraction to it's advantage throwing me across the room
I land on the mirror causing it to shatter and a small piece stabbed my stomach
The demon then lunges at Clary biting her in the shoulder."no!" I yell trying to stand up
Suddenly the blonde guy from earlier came in swiftly killing the demon as Clary looks at him dazed
"What? No 'thank you' for saving your life. Careful. The demon got a piece of you" he says as Clary winces
"Demons?"
"Yeah. What did you think that miserable, disgusting thing was?" The guy asks as I finally stand up limping towards them
"I uh I thought it was Dot" she stutters and he chuckles
"No ravener demon, shapeshifter." He says
"You're just saying words now. Wait why is the room spinning?"
"Demon venom" I wheeze
"Liz" Clary says before passing out as the guy catches her
"I got you" he mumbles before lifting her up. "Let's head to the institute. You must be her sister or something"
"Elizabeth. Her sister." I clarify and he nods stepping out the loft. "Jace Wayland nice to meet you properly."
