Louis's P.O.V.

"Louis, we're going over to Sarah's house tonight." My mum said as I entered the kitchen, after coming home from football practise.

"Why?" I huffed, grabbing an apple from the fruit bowl that was on the table.

"Well, you know I said that her and Tom were adopting a daughter?" she said, turning around to face me, wiping her hands dry on a tea towel.

"Yeah, so?" I huffed again, rolling my eyes and taking another bite of my apple.

"So we're going over to meet her." she said sternly.

"Why do I have to go? I have loads of homework to do for tomorrow." I tried to persuade her.

To be honest, I do want to meet her, Tom said that she was really pretty. So who can blame me. But Sarah creeps me out, I don't know why and I can't explain it. But there is defiantly something strange about her.

"She needs a friend, Louis. She's had a hard life these past couple years." she said, glaring at me.

"Fine, I will stay for tea." I sighed, turning and running up the stairs to do as much homework as I can before we have to leave.

Narrator.

"This is it." Nikki whispered to herself as she stood outside a big house.

Tom, the man who owns the house she's staying in, stepped out of the car. Richard stood next to her. He was only here to give her a lift because he rides on a motorbike, and She won't step foot inside a car after that day. No way, never again.

"Be good this time, alright Ni?" Richard said, giving Nikki a side hug with one arm.

"No promises," She said back, taking the box he had in his arm.

"Sarah should be inside, Nikki." Tom said, pulling her suitcase over the curb and clicking a button to lock his expensive car. "She invited a couple neighbours around, so that you can make some friends before you go to school tomorrow."

"There ya go!" Richard surprisingly said, placing a hand on Nikki's shoulder. "Well, Tom, call me if you have any questions or problems." Richard then placed his helmet back on his head and placed the spare he had for Nikki in side the seat. As he drove off, he waved goodbye.

"Come on, let's go inside" Tom said, pulling the suitcase up the pathway. Nikki followed him with a slight limp in her right leg and waited for him to open the door.

"Hello, darling!" Sarah screeched, quickly walking up to Nikki and placing a kiss on her forehead. She scrunched her face up at the close contact before sifting the box to rest on one hip, using her now free arm to wipe her forehead dry.

As Sarah greeted Tom, Nikki looked around to see that all the walls were painted white, black leather coaches surrounded the flat screen TV, patio doors were in front of were she stood, revealing the pool and large apple tree that were in the garden. But then her hazel eyes fixed to the archway that lead to the kitchen, there stood a tall boy with glimmering green eyes and cute curly hair. He smiled at her, but she didn't return it as her eyes wondered over his body. He was wearing a thin, white t-shirt and dark skinny jeans that made him look even taller.

"Hi, I'm Harry." He smiled at Nikki with a deep, attractive voice.

"Nikki, like the sport brand" she said, holding a hand out for him to shake.

He gladly took it before smiling widely, full on dimples, as he tried to get her to smile. But he wasn't successful as Nikki kept a straight face.

"Let's show you your room," tom said, walking past Nikki before heading to the stairs.

"Haven't ya got a room down stairs I can have." Nikki said with an accent that Harry picked up but didn't know where it was from.

"Why do you need a room down stairs?" Harry asked, but did not get an answer.

"Sorry, Nikki, But we don't." Tom said, now carrying the case up the stairs.

'Bloody hell, that's just great!' Nikki thought in her head as she struggled to climb the stairs.

"Here, let me help," Harry said, being the gentleman that he was, taking the box from Nikki and slowly following her up the stairs.

Louis's P.O.V.

"Louis, get down here now!" My mum called from the bottom of the stairs.

"Ok, I'm coming!" I called back, quickly zipping up my red skinny jeans and slipping my Vans on before flying down the stairs. "Ready!"

"Come on, let's go" my mum called, grabbing her keys.

We walked across the road, checking both sides first, before going up the pathway and to their front door.

'This is it' I thought to myself as my mum knocked on the door.

The door shortly swung open to revile a dark haired girl who had it tied up to the side. She wore a blue tank top which had the superman symbol on it, and it also was designed to look like it was splattered with red paint. On her bottom half, she wore plain, grey sweats and high tops.

"You must be the Tomlinson's?" she said, leaning to her left on the door.

"Yes, that's us" my mum said, smiling kindly. "I'm Liz and this is Louis." My mum introduced us, holding out a hand for the girl to shake, but see didn't even look at it.

"I'm Nikki, like the sport brand." she said, full on serious, making me laugh.

"Seriously? do your parents own it or something?" I laughed, but soon stopped as Nikki stood up straight and cracked her knuckles ,making me gulp.

"Got a fucking problem with it?" she hissed, eyes darkening

"No, I think it's just weird." I pushed my luck.

"Louis." My mum growled, giving me the death glare.

"Let them in!" Sarah's voice called from the kitchen, saving me and my skin.

"Come in" Nikki huffed, stepping to the side. I walked in after my mum. Nikki slammed the door shut behind me then, by surprise, she slammed me into the wall, making sure my mum was gone.

"Don't you ever fucking joke about my parents again" she hissed lowly into my face, her breath going over my lips and making them tingle. "Got it?"

"Y-yes" I stuttered because the wind was nocked out of me. Not because I was scared or anything.

She released me, shoving me against the wall before walking away, but I couldn't help but to notice her slight limp in her right leg.

I took a deep breathe, regaining my normal heartbeat before walking into the sitting room where everyone sat talking.

"Louis, it's so good to see you!" Sarah shrieked, jumping up and hugging me tightly.

"Yeah, you too," I said, hugging her back awkwardly.

"Well, do you all want to eat now?" Sarah asked, releasing me and turning towards the kitchen, Harry soon followed obversely to help. Show off. Everyone else made there way to the table, waiting to be served.

Nikki sat at one end, Tom at the over. I chose the place next to Nikki and sweetly smiled at her like nothing happened, but she shown no emotion back. My mum sat next to Tom on the opposite side of the table.

Sarah and Harry soon walked in with plates in each hand for us. Harry placed Nikki's down in front of her with a smile but she only nodded to him as a thanks. He then placed mine down, "there you go, Lou."

"Thanks Hazza," we used are nick names for each other.

Sarah and Harry then sat down, Harry next to my mum and Nikki, Sarah next to me and Tom.

"Let's say grace." Oh yeah, did I forget to mention that Sarah was really religious. We all started to hold hands, I reached to take Nikki's hand that was resting on the table as Harry did the same on the other side, but she pulled her hands slowly away and into each other. Placing them on her lap.

"I don't believe in god" she said with no emotion.

Sarah looked shocked as we all looked at Nikki. My family and Harry's weren't religious but we wouldn't argue with Sarah about her believes.

"Why?" Tom asked, breaking the silents.

"Because the worlds not fair." She briefly explained.

"Explain?" Sarah asked, now joining into the conversation.

"If there was a god, then why are people staving, becoming ill, homeless or poor, crippled, disabled, mentally ill. And why would this 'god' make one event happen in one persons life that changes everything." she stopped, taking a breath and looking down at her hands. "Why would god make her so happy, making her dreams be so close to being true, and then, destroy it. In one night everything she loved and cared about, gone. she then had to leave her home, her friends, her whole childhood, to be with different families that she didn't won't to be with." She stopped again to take a deep sigh. "And if this so called 'god' was so great, then why are there charities? surly if god was doing his or her job properly then the countries would be equal and rich forks won't have to give money to the poor because there wouldn't be a poor or rich line. This would also stop war, bullying, violence, because people would have what they need and not take it from others." She finished, sending us all into deep thought.

"Maybe god has a plan," Harry spoke up. "Maybe god made this girls dreams be so close to coming true so that she didn't give up on it, but gods plan was bigger than that. God took away all she had to give her a fresh start, meet new people who could help her get there, and maybe, meet the person she's meant to be with until she's old." Harry finished.

"Maybe she already had that person and the dream that was so close to being reality." Nikki spoke back, turning to look at Harry who was in deep thought.

"Why don't we eat before the food gets cold?" Tom spoke up, returning our attention to the food.

Sarah quickly prayed to herself before we all dug in to eat, but I couldn't help but to notice that Nikki was picking and looking at the food like it's missing something.

"What is this?" she asked, looking up at Sarah.

Sarah looked slightly hurt but shrugged it off as she answered swiftly. "Lasagna, sweetie."

"Where's the meat then?" Did I also forget to mention that Sarah is a vegetarian.

"Its a vegetarian lasagna" Sarah answered, taking a mouthful of the stuff.

"So your religious and vegetarian?" Nikki raised an eyebrow, Sarah nodding. "This isn't going to work out." She said, pushing her plate away from her.

"If this is one of your famous tricks to be taken back, then it's not going to work." Tom jokingly said, pointing he's fork across the table.

"I have a protein diet" Nikki tried to reason with him.

she was on a diet?

"Then you can cook some eggs because Richard said no meats." Tom fired back.

"Why?" she wined, "I always had meat before I had to move."

"Richard said it doesn't help with your..." he trailed off, looking at me and Harry, "... Problem."

"Screw Richard, thats a lie!" she argued.

"Language" Sarah said firmly.

"If you don't like it, send me back." Nikki replied with hope in her eyes and voice.

"We're not sending you back, no matter what you do." Tom said, Nikki slouching in her chair before pulling the plate closer to her and digging her fork into it.

"You will, trust me" Nikki said quietly, only loud enough for me to hear it.

"What was that?" I asked, smirking to myself.

"Louis, right?" she said, looking straight into my eyes.

"Yeah?" Well I wasn't expecting that.

"You into drama and stuff?" she asked, twiddling her folk between her fingers.

"Yes, why?" I raised an eyebrow.

"Humm, that explains it" she said, taking another bite of the lasagna and looking back up at me.

"Explains what?" I questioned again.

She swallowed before she opened her mouth to answer. "Why your gay."

"I'm not gay" I answered strongly, sitting up a bit. I have nothing against gay people but it's really annoying when people call me gay because of what I like doing; which is wearing bright colours and preforming in musicals. Well... that does sound gay.

BUT IM NOT GAY. end of that.

"Sure" she rolled her eyes.

"Well, what do you like?" that's turn this around, shall we?

"Cocaine" she said seriously, everyone stopping to look at her. "jokes, jokes. lighten up people." she said afterwards. "I like home."

Wow, umm what do I say now?

"Where do you come from?" Harry asked, saving me.

"Somerset" Nikki turned to talk to Harry. "on the mendips."

"I've never been there" harry answers truthfully. "is it nice?"

"Yeah, do you want to see my house?" Nikki said, pulling an iPhone out of her pocket and unlocking it, trying to find a picture.

Harry's POV

She dug out her phone and handed it to me, a beautiful stone house was on the screen with a wooden door and wooden framed windows. In the background was a huge garden and about 10 stables as well. A horse occupying the little square patch in front of the stables that was fenced off.

"Wow, that's really pretty" I said, still looking at her phone.

"Well, there's more" she said, sliding her finger across the screen to show me a picture of a picture that was her house from a birds eye view. There was a lot more to it than just a house and stables. By what I could make out, there was another stable block, a large fenced off rectangle that has sand for the floor. Seven large barns as well, scattered about and gravel leading to each one. Fields surrounded the place, cows occupying the fields.

"You lived here?" I asked in shock.

"Yep, my dad and his brother owned it." she sighed, "used to milk the cows twice a day. Nothin' better than fresh milk in the mornin'" she said in a weird accent.

"So is your dad's brother still alive?" louis asked, making me and Nikki turn to look at him.

"Yeah, why?" Nikki asked, taking another bite of the lasagna.

"Why didn't you live with him then?" louis raised an eyebrow.

That's true. if she had family at home, why didn't she live with them?

"Umm,..." Nikki looked down as she dropped her fork, quickly scratching her left wrist with her right hand, making it go red. "He... he wasn't stable after my dads death." She kept scratching her arm, making it look sore.

"Why? what he do?" Louis pushed, having a drink afterwards.

"He sold the farm, my dads house, everything. Moved away before I got the chance to move in with him." she said, breaking through the layer of skin and making her arm bleed. I quickly reached over and grabbed her hand, making her stop. No one else could see the blood because she had moved her arms under the table.

"Come on" I said, pulling her up with me. Everyone looking at us weirdly as I walked with her to the kitchen.

We walked around the island and to the sink, but I couldn't help notice the slight limp she had in her right leg as we did so. I turned the cold tap on and placed her arm underneath and she didn't even wince as she watched me wash away the blood.

"Why did you do this?" I asked her, still looking at what I was doing.

"I don't know" she blinked.

"Of course you know" I said, looking up at her but she still looked down at the running water.

"I don't actually know, harry" she said before looking up at me. "It's a habit I've had for about a year now."

"Oh" how do you answer to that? "umm..."

"Will we be going to the same school tomorrow?" she asked with a bit of hope.

"Yes, we can walk together if you want?" I smiled.

"I'd like that." The corners of her mouth turning up slightly, making me smile more.

"Well let's go finish our dinner, then I'll help you sort your room out" I turned the tap off as she shook her arm dry.
