What is a Daesang (대상)?
The Daesang award is one of the highest achievements a Korean music group or artist can achieve. The translation is "grand prize" and winning a Daesang correlates to physical and digital sales of songs and albums. It is awarded at the many prominent Korean music award shows such as the following (in no particular order or prestige).

Has BTS won any Daesangs?
The answer is yes, in fact to date they have won 7 in total! One for each member to hold and much more to come! It has been extremely emotional each time and leaves BTS as well as ARMYs looking like this at the end of every award show...

1️⃣Melon Music Awards (MMA) 2016 - Album of the Year 1️⃣
This was their very first win and they were 120% surprised that they had won.
God all these tears are making me emotional, they didn't have a lot of time to talk but you can tell they were pleasantly surprised. This is how oppressed they were beforehand, they didn't even think they would win because there were so many other bands that had much better influence and outreach. You have to understand that historically speaking, groups that were part of the "big 3" companies had swept these awards.
But they won, BTS won, and that's the beginning of when BTS finally received the recognition they deserve.
2️⃣Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) 2016 - Artist of the Year 2️⃣

I cried really hard when they won, and every time I watch this clip I cry because it was their second daesang but first Artist of the Year daesang (which is the top of the top). Everything they have done up until this point, all their blood, sweat, and tears into their career and dreams have finally been recognized. It's so bittersweet and just heartwarming because their hard work has paid off, and their love and devotion to their fans as well as our love and devotion have finally prevailed and come up to the top despite big 3 privilege and all the bullshit they have gone through (like being censored in the k-pop industry) for years. 😭
3️⃣ Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) 2017 - Artist of the Year 3️⃣
BTS broke the all-time record for winning Artist of the Year back to back, twice in a row. Nobody has ever achieved this and I am so happy for them! They look exhausted in this gif because they did like a full on 8 minute Cypher pt.4 & MIC DROP performance just beforehand.
It's a blessing and I curse and I can't stop thinking about this 😂😍🤩

4️⃣ Melon Music Awards (MMA) 2017 - Song of the Year 4️⃣
SPRING DAY IS A QUEEN AND WILL FOREVER BE A GREAT SONG.
BTS won with one of the title songs, Spring Day, from the album You Never Walk Alone. Spring Day is a ballad song with philosophical undertones and narrates the struggle between the feeling of loss, of innocence and youth, as well as belonging.
I will make a dedicated theory piece of notable songs of BTS later!

5️⃣ Melon Music Awards (MMA) 2017 - Global Artist Award 5️⃣
I just wanted to point out that MMAs actually scrapped the Global Artist Award after PSY's win in 2012 because no other group or artist was able to become such a global sensation until BTS. Because of BTS' success internationally, the MMAs specifically brought the award back to the show because BTS is that deserving of it.
BTS won two daesangs in one session! Originally people thought this award wasn't a daesang, but in Melon's articles afterward, they specifically mentioned that this award is indeed a daesang so that's definitely special!
6️⃣ Golden Disk Awards (GDA) 2018 - Disk Daesang for Album of the Year 6️⃣
They also won Digital Bonsang (2nd best after daesang) which is good! BTS is the first K-pop act to Win at daesang at GDA that's not from SM entertainment specifically. They broke a 10-year record with their mini-album, Love Yourself: Her, which is also the best selling Korean album that sold over 1 million in Gaon and Hanteo charts in 16 years! And in addition, they did this without making a repackage for the album.
Actually, I'm not sure why they didn't get the digital win as well but that's a tricky debate I won't get into... We all know BTS slayed digital and physical album sales 👀👀👀...

Also, who dressed them for this award??? I just wanna talk 😤😤😤they can do better!
7️⃣Seoul Music Awards (SMA) 2018 - Artist of the Year 7️⃣
Most recent to date daesang!!! :D
It's their first time winning a daesang at the SMAs and the first non-big 3 company group to win in a decade, breaking another 10 year streak that the top entertainment companies have dominated over the years.
BTS - breaker of records!!!

I won't add any international awards for now because that deserves its own section and plus, I am hoping BTS wins all the current nominations.
