"I'm going to get you out of here."
"I just don't want anyone to get hurt," I said desperately, still pulling at the rope around my wrists.
"Oh right, sorry," Hayes took a Swiss Army knife out of his hoodie pocket and swiftly cut me free. "I need you to act like you're still tied up," he said carefully. "I have a plan."
"Get Carter and Shawn," I whispered. How were we going to get him out of here? He was still unconscious.
"I have a friend, he'll help get Carter out," Hayes said, as if he read my thoughts.
As soon as he said that, a boy almost melted out of the shadows on the other side of the room, muttered something to Shawn, and cut him free. Then he silently walked out.
"Hayes!" Nash called. "Are you ready for your ceremony?"
"J-just a minute Nash!" Hayes called, his face white and his hairline sweaty.
"Here's what you're going to do," Hayes instructed. "It's a classic plan. While I get accepted into Magcon, you stay still until I 'faint' from the sight of my blood. While they're distracted, Matt will bring Shawn around and they'll grab Carter. Then, you get your asses out of there and drive Matt's car home. Okay? Nod if you got all that."
I nodded faintly.
"Hayes! What the fuck are you doing, talking to the prisoners?" Taylor yelled.
Hayes got up and gave me a nasty look. "I was just telling them if they move, they'll have one more Magcon to deal with," he spat.
Taylor seemed satisfied. "Fine," he turned back around.
"Don't boss Hayes around," Nash said angrily. "That's my fucking job."
While they were arguing, Hayes turned back around to me.
"How will you get out?" I asked, worried for him.
"While they search for you, I'm going to get a ride from my buddy Aaron." Hayes explained.
I nodded again.
"Hayes are you ready?" Nash asked. "You look kind of sick bro."
Hayes gulped, and started to shiver, which was really hamming it up.
"Y-yeah," he said, gulping. "I'm okay."
"Good luck," I whispered.
"You too," he replied. "I'll get you out of here, promise."
He walked stiffly to Nash, and whispered something to him.
I stared at Shawn across the room and he have me a barely noticeable nod.
"The Magcon boys have gathered here today...." Nash, Taylor, Ricky, Jack J, Jack G, and Cameron all formed a circle around Hayes.
Shawn suddenly went ridged when a hand touched his shoulder; Matt.
He got up silently and backed into the shadows while the Magcon boys were doing some random chant.
I tried to get a glimpse of poor Hayes surrounded by all those assholes, one being his own brother.
I was enthralled by their strange ritual but a hand grabbed my shoulder and I gasped, hopefully not too loudly.
I turned to see Shawn with a finger on his lips. Some of the chanting boys recruiting Hayes were getting bored and they were letting their eyes wander.
"C'mon Hayes, faint already," I murmured. Slowly, Shawn pulled me back towards the door, and another boy pulled Carter.
Inching back into the shadows, I heard a shout and I froze.
"Hayes! Are you okay?" Cameron shouted. Hayes held the bloody knife in his hand that he was carving his own skin with and he toppled to the floor. They surrounded Hayes, trying to get him to regain "consciousness" and that's when I was pulled through the door with a jerk of my arm.
I met Shawn's hazel eyes and pressed my lips to his.
"I'm so glad your safe," he murmured.
"Guys save it!" A voice hissed. I looked to see a tall boy with short brownish hair styles up in a quiff and a cute smile. "You want to escape these morons?"
I nodded, letting go of Shawn's shirt which I realized I had been holding it so tightly I made imprints in the fabric.
I brushed off my soiled black dress and hugged Shawn tightly. He wrapped an arm around my waist and led me down the hallway.
"Guys! Wait!" I turned to see Matt struggling to hold up Carter. Shawn let me go and assisted Matt.
My heart skipped when I heard angry shouts. They found out we were gone.
"Go go go!" I whispered, shoving Shawn and Matt forwards.
"Watch it!" Matt grunted after stumbling with Carter.
Their voices were getting louder as they got closer.
"C'mon guys...." I whined.
"I think we took a wrong turn," Matt looked around uncertainly.
"What the heck? Haven't you been here before?" I asked.
We turned to double back when Montana Huft stepped in front of us.
"Found you," she smirked triumphantly.
Matt and Shawn looked at each other, speechless.
"Found the-" she started to call, but I silenced her with a punch in the mouth. She staggered back holding her jaw and I shoved her out of the way.
"I've always wanted to do that!" I said happily.
But I had no time for being happy because their shouts were getting closer.
We took a right turn and finally, up ahead was the black metal door.
"Finally!" I yelled. I ran towards the door with Matt and Shawn hobbling as fast as they could with Carter in their arms.
I turned the handle when I heard something click.
"Don't move."
