Top 3 Quotes of the Day:

1: "ummmm

Forrest is like, a douche bag. a big, big douche bag. HE LOVES HER. but he can't be with her :P what the HELL is his problem? if I loved someone, and they switched bodies right before their real body was killed I'd be really happy. because they're still alive.

ughhh I think Forrest is on his man period. that has got to be it." -surahh

[Lol the main period was what got to me. I cracked up and my dad gave me a weird look. That totally made my day. :)]

2: "forrest is freakin insane. or bipolar. well both, actually. but really, couldnt he have thought of this whole "if your body is dead, my love for you will go under the grave along with it, and even though i know youre still perfectly fine and alive in this bitchy volleyball-playing blondie body, i cant go on the same way with you", and i suppose he did, cuz theres no way he couldve just thought of that after making out with the girl he's supposed to be in love with, and he talked to jasmine and maddie, so obviously he knew this beforehand, but NOOO he simply had to profess his love for her first, then crush her heart. FUCKING MORON. COULDNT HE AT LEAST BE THERE FOR HER WHEN HER BODY'S DEAD AND GONE AND HAS BEEN MURDERED, AND THE PERSON WHO MURDERED HER PROBABLY WASNT SET OUT TO GET SERENA MAGNUS IF THIS PERSON KILLED SHAY'S BODY, AND IF THIS PERSON DISCOVERED REAL SHAY WAS STILL ALIVE, PERSON WOULD GO AFTER HER, AND PERSON MIGHT KILL HER, AND FORREST WILL JUST BE THERE, ALIVE, THINKING, I WILL NEVER LOVE AGAAAAAAAIIIIIINNNNNN AND HE WOULDNT BE THERE IN SHAY'S LAST MOMENT, BECAUSE HE THOUGHT THAT JUST CUZ THE BODY'S GONE, NOTHING WILL EVER BE THE SAME AGAIN, AND HE IS SOOOO ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE I TOTALLY WANNA JUST STABBA STABBA RIGHT NOW GRR STUPIDASS ANNOYING USED-TO-BE-PERFECTNESS-FOR-SHAY-FOREVERANDEVER!!  They Say Love Hides Behind Every Corner. I Must Be Walking in Circles

Chapter 19

Jasmine and Maddie decided to sleep over. Liv didn’t mind, but she was a little surprised that I wasn’t hanging out with Bethany as much as Serena used to. I knew that Beth might have felt bad because of that, but I just wasn’t capable of being the best friend she was used to.

We had been watching Criminal Minds for the past seven hours, memorizing the steps the FBI behavioral analysis unit used to catch the bad guys.

But watching TV for seven hours straight is exhausting, and around midnight we collapsed.

In the morning, we got up bright and early to begin our work. I was in the bathroom, tugging one last time at my ponytail when my phone rang. I had it with me in the bathroom, and when I looked at the caller ID, I saw that it was Finn.

Surprised, I answered the phone.

“Hey, Serena,” he greeted. “Okay, I’m just gonna get this out before I change my mind. Look, I know that you don’t remember what we had, but I still really like you, and I wanna give us a shot again. We don’t have to go out publicly if you don’t want again, but anything is better than nothing.”

Aw. Serena was kind of mean in that aspect. And now I felt bad, because I couldn’t quite be like, “Oh, no, I can’t accept your invitation because I’m actually just borrowing Serena’s body, but when I find her, I’ll tell her you called,” now could I?

“Um…” I hesitated, and then sighed internally. “Okay, yeah, that sounds nice. But we don’t have to keep this in the wraps, you know.”

“We… we don’t?” He sounded surprised.

“No…” I continued. “I think we deserve better than that.”

“That’s awesome.”

“Okay, I’m heading out with my friends right now, so I’ll call you later.”

“Alright, bye.” He clicked off. I snapped my phone shut. Oh, alright, I’ll admit I only accepted Finn because I was still sore about what happened with Forrest yesterday. But he’s a nice guy, and he deserves a chance. Besides, who knows what could happen? Maybe I’ll fall for him.

“Shay!” Maddie shouted, and then I heard a crashing noise when I opened the door. “Come here!”

“What was that?” I asked.

Maddie scoffed nervously. “Pfft, nothing!”

My eyes narrowed. “Where’s Jasmine?”

“Back here!” Jasmine gasped, her head peeking out from behind the door I had just opened. I must have hit her when I opened it. She must have been eavesdropping on my phone call.

“Out with it, already,” I said, knowing she wanted to talk about what just happened.

“How could you accept Finn a day after you confessed your love to Forrest?” Jasmine blurted.

“Easy,” I replied coolly. “Forrest shot me down.”

“He did not,” Jasmine defended. “He was the one who confessed first.”

“Yeah, and THEN he shot me down.” I snorted. “Look, I don’t wanna talk about this. I’m not sure if I even wanna do this.”

“What?” Maddie shrieked. “What do you mean, you’re not sure if you wanna do this?”

“I’m not sure if I CAN do this,” I admitted. “How am I supposed to go at this, like Hotch and Rossi and Morgan do on Criminal Minds? They’re not emotionally and prior to this, physically, attached to the victim. I don’t know if I can handle this. Discovering my body was awful enough.”

“We never said this was gonna be easy, either,” Jasmine pointed out. “Besides, it’s not exactly pleasant for us, either.”

“I know, but—” I was interrupted by the sound of my phone. I sighed in annoyance and flipped it open. “Hello?” I asked impatiently, forgetting to check the caller ID.

“Shay, oh, thank God you answered, I tried Maddie’s cell and Jasmine’s, too, but neither of them picked up!”

“Is this… what…? Paul?” I asked, seriously confused. How did he get my number? Oh, duh. Serena was a serious extrovert. She had a gajillion contacts on her phone. Paul went to Ridgeway, so it was natural she had his number.

“Yeah, it’s me,” he confirmed. “I seriously have to talk to you.”

“Then talk!” I snapped. Maddie and Jasmine were frantically signing things I couldn’t quite make out. I just shrugged them away with a wave of my hand.

“I need to tell you in person, and could you bring Maddie?” he continued. “This is important, by the way. It’s really important.”

“If it’s that important, you should tell me now.”

“But this is something better said in person,” he whined.

“But nothing!” I retorted. “If it’s so serious, I want to know, now. Now spit it out!”

Paul sighed. “Okay, fine, I guess I’ll tell you over the phone. But be prepared.”

“Out with it!” I snapped angrily. He was so annoying.

“Okay, okay!” he wailed. “Forrest is in jail.”

“Jail?” I asked in a surprised tone. “What did he do? Let me guess… drunk driving?”

After the little “Baby Got Back” incident we shared, I wouldn’t have been surprised.

“No,” Paul said with an annoyed sigh. “I wish.”

He wishes? Crap, this might be more serious than I figured. “Did he get caught with beer in the car?”

“God, Shay, you’re gonna end up an alcoholic. What are you, obsessed with beer?” Paul snorted.

“No, only the lemony kind! Oh, and the bitter kind. And the sweet kind.”

“So basically all beer?” I could sense the rolling of his eyes.

“Pretty much, yeah.”

“Paul said this was supposed to be super important, yet you guys are still talking about BEER?” Jasmine demanded with a bark.

“Right!” I raised a finger. “Okay, just tell me why he’s in jail.”

“You may wanna sit down,” Paul said after a second.

“Oh, just tell me already!” He was seriously pissing me off.

“Forrest is in jail because he’s the primary suspect in the case of your murder, Shay,” Paul finally confessed. “They’re gonna give him the max: life imprisonment; cadena perpetua.”

“What?” I shrieked in surprise, anger, sadness, and many more emotions that I couldn’t quite process.

“Yeah, they think he’s the one who killed you. Er, well, killed your body, I guess.”

“But…” I was about to protest and ramble about how messed up that was, when something dawned on me. Forrest must have asked Paul to call me. That bitch-face! So one minute he proclaims his love for me, then he breaks my heart, and now that he suddenly needs me things are just dandy? No, no, no, no, no! I don’t think so! Only when he needs me to save his ass can he forget about the fact that I’m blonde and Serena Magnus. “Okay.”

“Okay?” Paul asked in a surprised tone. “That’s it.”

“Yeah,” I replied bitterly. “That’s it.”

“But… you’re not even gonna say anything? Do anything?”

“Why the hell should I?” I snapped. “I’m sure Forrest ran home and told you every single fucking detail about how he broke my heart after making it swell with happiness. This is his own problem.”

“Okay, you have the right to be pissed,” Paul began, and I interrupted.

“Damn right I do!”

He sighed, realizing that convincing me to do something wasn’t going to be easy. What, did he think that as soon as he said those words, I would run to the rescue? No, siree, I was much too proud to do THAT. It was gonna take more than just that.

“Look at it this way,” Paul insisted. “Don’t do this for Forrest, if you don’t want to.”

“Damn right I don’t!”

“Do it for you,” he explained. “Do you really want Forrest to go to jail for this, when the real murderer is still out there?”

“Uh… no…” I muttered, resigned.

“Then?” he prodded.

“Then I guess I’ll forget about my super angry rage and go through with this after all.” And with that, I hung up.

“Hey, I wanted to talk to him!” Maddie whined.

“Oh, God, Maddie, can it!” I shook my head. “This is bad. They’re blaming Forrest for this.”

“For not letting me talk to Paul?” Maddie looked confused.

“No!” I barked. “For my murder!”

Their eyes went wide and I thought they were gonna pass out. I was the one who, surprisingly, remained calm. “Let’s go.”

&&&

We parked in front of the police station and rushed out. The air was blowing our hair all around, and even Jasmine didn’t care at that moment. That was a freaking miracle. I tugged at the door, but it wouldn’t budge. The door was made of glass, and I could see people running around, frantically. Brookville was small. You didn’t get murder cases very often, at all. This was the first one in years. Everyone was freaking out about it. I banged on the door until a police officer opened it. “Can I help you ladies?”

“Yeah. The victim was our best friend,” Maddie answered from beside me.

“I suppose you want to know what’s going on,” he said in response.

“You supposed right.” I clicked my tongue.

He gave a small sigh and let us in. He let us sit down in a small office. “What do you want to know?”

“Why you arrested Forrest Rivers,” I said immediately.

“Because he’s the prime suspect.”

“But WHY?” I demanded.

“Shay was last seen with Forrest. She disappeared soon after. He wasn’t seen anywhere the day after that.”

“Did someone see him kill Shay?” I pointed a finger at him. “No! No one did!”

"He will stay put until the trial.”

"And THEN you’ll give him life imprisonment without proof?” I was getting pissed. I didn’t want him to spend the rest of his life in jail, no matter how pissed off I was at him. The truth was that the anger was just coating what I really felt. It was so frustrating that I still loved him even after yesterday’s little occurrence. Damn me.

"I suggest you leave.”

“And I suggest you do a better job at… doing your job!” I had trouble thinking of that one.

He was getting mad, too. “And you think you could do a better job of finding the guy that did this? This isn’t easy. It may look easy to some, but it isn’t.”

“Yeah, I could!” No, I couldn’t! Why did I just say that? I was just committing myself to this even more! No more!

“I’d like to see you try.”

“Well, we’ll show you, mister!” I said, wagging my pointer finger at him. Maddie and Jasmine huffed, the first sounds they’d exuded since we got here.

He chuckled and rolled his eyes, obviously not believing we could do this. I gave him the finger and stormed out.

“So…” I said breezily as we walked back to the car. “Exactly how are we supposed to show them…?”

I really should have thought this through.
