We spend years teaching men
To be at peace with their feelings.
To cry without shame when they hurt
And to open every corner of their hearts when they love.
But we spend years teaching boys
That feelings are fatal.
Teach that tears poison strength,
And romance breeds weakness.
That it is not for them.
We sever their growth at their roots,
And then we wonder why it is when they wilt too soon.
