we're gazing at the same night sky,
at the same endless darkness,
at the same faint twinkle of the two stars still illuminated,
at the same full moon hidden behind clouds,
listening to the spasmodic bursts of color
shot up above the treetop silhouettes,
wondering how time has passed so rapidly,
how long we'll stay young and lively,
how life and the world will spin after this moment
of false hopeful cheers for a better year
that drown away the past's sorrows,
but only one of us
is wishing to be with the other
to finally start anew.
