Yoona's POV
After Jin had left, his manager, Sejin, said that he would drop me back. I had insisted that I could book a cab and it would be no hassle at all, but he paid no attention to my protests. He said that since Jin had asked him personally to make sure I reached safely, he had no choice but to drop me back himself. When I worried about how Jin would get back if his manager was with me, he reassured me that he would ask another car to be ready to take Jin back home and that Jin would have wanted it that way.
I had figured that Jin worked for the company but I was curious about how he seemed to get what he wanted. He must be in a really good position. But didn't Jin go to college to become an actor? Why was he working in an entertainment company? I wanted to ask his manager but I didn't want him to think I was being nosey.
I got dropped back home but I dreaded what was waiting for me and dragged my feet to my apartment.
I had gotten permission to work from home because Jihee was sick and I had to take care of her. When she gets sick, she gets really needy and needs someone to be with her all the time. But as soon as she gets better, she would shove me away and tell me to stop clinging to her. The duality of Jihee is something that I had never tried to understand.
As soon as I entered our apartment, my fears came true. The coffee table was covered with a tub of popcorn, a tub of ice cream, boxes of tissue and the couch was lost under blankets and pillows. I considered making a run for it and getting out of the apartment before Jihee saw me.
"Not so fast Ms. Yoona." Damn it! I had almost made it.
"Huh? I was just coming in, what are you talking about?" I asked her innocently.
"Drop the act. Sit that pretty behind of yours on the couch and don't move till I come," she commanded me.
I brought this on myself. There's no escape.
I sat down and waited her to come back with whatever else she was hunting for.
"Shouldn't you be in bed resting? I'll make some soup for you, you go rest!" I got up from the sofa.
"Yoona. You know it won't work, why bother?" She said as she pushed me back on the couch and sat beside me.
She cuddled up in a blanket, picked up the popcorn and looked at me expectantly.
"Well, what are you waiting for? Spill already! Okay, I'll help you. 'Jin just took me by surprise...' Aaand go!"
I told her everything that happened that morning. She seemed very disappointed in my conversation with Jin and threw popcorn at me to let me know just how disappointed she was. Apparently, it wasn't dramatic enough. This girl expected some K-drama showdown.
After I was done we just sat in silence. I was waiting for her to talk but she just sat looking at me. I was getting a little concerned about how silent Jihee was. I knew something serious was going on in that head of hers when she sits like that.
"You still haven't told me what happened all those years back. Whenever I asked about him you would brush it off saying that he was just someone special and things didn't work out as you had hoped. I never pushed you because I saw how sensitive you would get whenever I brought up his name. I gave you all the space you needed but I think it's time now."
Jihee and I met when I went overseas for my higher studies. Our lost and confused souls had instantly clicked in the new, unknown and slightly intimidating place- roommates and best friends ever since. It would have been the easiest to tell her, but I just didn't. I guess I didn't want to start thinking about him all over again.
To be honest, I don't know why I was so sensitive about Jin. It wasn't like our story was some great tragic story.
