Can I Have This Dance?
Chapter 18
The next morning I woke up still feeling kind of weird about what happened yesterday between me and Alex. The way his eyes made me get butterflies and made my stomach feel light. The way he pulled me tightly against him suddenly, before giving me a hug and rushing out. I hope I didn't actually scare him away like Clair said.
I think I did but I'll speak to him later.
-------------------------------------------------Tuesday - Saturday
The week felt like it went by slowly. I had three exams other than art from Wednesday - Friday and I'm glad that I've finished a majority of my exams. I had already taken a shower, brushed my teeth, gotten dressed and had breakfast and I was now just reading a random book off of my desk, on my bed.
KNOCK KNOCK
"Come in!" I shouted out to the person knocking on my door. The door opened to reveal Aaron.
"Hey," I said putting my book down and signalling for him to sit on my bed, by patting a spot.
He came and sat down in front of me staring at my book, before speaking.
"I had an idea, so that we didn't just have to sit in here and read," he joked while I lightly punched his arm for making fun of me.
"How about we invite everyone over and have a movie night," Aaron suggested
"Sounds like a good idea," I agreed, surprised that he randomly thought of this idea.
"You text the girls and I'll text the boys. But we need to go shopping and choose a film," he informed me
"Yeah, I'll go shopping and you choose a film," I instructed
"Alright, I'll ask Alex to go with you," he stated getting off my bed and walking towards the door.
"If he'll come with me," I muttered low enough for Aaron not to hear. Alex hadn't really been speaking to me properly after what happened on Monday.
"That's planned, so we better get on it, plus I'll clean the living room since I'm not doing much," he added
"You better, cause I'm not doing it," I joked laughing as he left my room.
I texted the girls
'Movie night at my house,
8pm, be there or be square.
Lol : )'
"Alex said he's on his way!" Aaron shouted outside my door. I guess he agreed then. I quickly looked for shoes to go with my dark blue shorts and grey, 'I'm Bossy' top. When I put on my grey flats, I looked for my purse and went downstairs. I had the song,
'Christina Milian - Whatever you want,' in my head, I don't know why, but I started dancing down the stairs and walked into the kitchen. REWIND!!! I slowly walked backwards and saw Alex laughing at ME probably.
"When did you get in here?" I asked confused
"Like five minutes ago," Alex answered smirking
"Where you singing a song in your head?" he asked
"Yeah," I said looking down as he chuckled at me.
"Ready to go?" he asked
"Yep," I answered before following him out.
--------------------------------------------------The Shop
"Alright, now lets go shopping!" I joked as I pushed the cart following behind Alex
He picked out the stuff I named and threw them in the bag. Too bad I wasn't really good at navigating the cart, every minute I'd end up pushing the wheels against his shoes or foot, causing him to stop or trip up.
"Your doing it on purpose!" he accused me the hundredth time
"No, I'm not, I promise!" I lied, laughing in the process
"You're a liar!" he shouted
"Fine, fine, I'll stop!" I said still laughing
He nodded before walking ahead again. I being me, pushed the cart right into his foot again, this time with force causing him to instantly spin around and glare at me.
"That's it, your gonna get it now!" Alex said before stalking towards me.
"Wait, what are you gonna do?" I asked seriously
"You'll just have to wait and see!" he said before chasing me. I laughed running through lanes forgetting all about our shopping cart.
"Nicki, your not gonna get away, I don't know why your running!" he shouted as he walked to me, as I ran
"Do you really think that, you cocky git!?" I joked throwing a bag of cotton at him, sticking out my tongue when it hit him.
"That's really it!" he shouted running after me at speed. I screamed as he picked me up, causing everyone to look at us, but I was sure that he didn't care.
"Put me down, NOW!" I shouted at him laughing as he threw me over his shoulder.
"I don't think so," he said chuckling.
He threw me into our shopping cart and pushed me in it everywhere else to get the remaining things.
"You're such a bully," I sulked
"You're such a baby," he retorted
I sat up slightly in the cart and looked at him as he pushed me.
"Am not!" I defended
"Are too," he said
"Am not!"
"Are too,"
"Am not!" I defended as I looked into his eyes which shinned with enjoyment.
"Are.....too," he said smirking as I lastly said,
"Arg!" finishing our argument.
We got to the counter and put all of our food on the table waiting for our products to be scanned. Alex lifted me out of the trolley and placed me on the floor before looking into my eyes.
A big mistake.
He had the same look in his eyes, making me feel like jelly and giving me butterflies. I smiled kindly at him before turning around to see the shop assistant smiling at us.
"You too really look like a cute couple, no wonder you're together," she said smiling at us friendly.
"Were not together," we both said at the same time before laughing together slightly, only for the cashier to give us a knowing look. I looked at Alex who just shrugged and started putting our things into bags. We paid and then placed all of our shopping bags into Alex's car.
"I'm gonna go quickly put this back. You can hop in," Alex said, referring to the trolley as I just nodded and did as he said. It literally took him two seconds to put it back even though the trolley line-up was quite far away.
"You ready?" he asked out of breath
"Yeah, did you run?" I asked smiling
"Na....I'm just randomly out of breath," he said sarcastically.
"Oh shut up," I said lightly slapping his arm, making him chuckle before he started the car and drove us back to my house.
----------------------------------------------------------My House
We carried the bags into the house as I struggled, making Alex help me carry the bags easily.
"Thanks," I said smiling friendly
"That's cool, do you want to me help unpack?" he asked friendly
"Please?" I asked shyly
"Sure," he said smiling, making me smile back.
I do not like Alex! I do not like Alex! I kept repeating in my head.
We packed most of the things away for now and when it was time for the movie, we'd easily get them out. I just didn't want the kitchen to look messy. My parents went to see my grandma for three days, since they didn't have work, so it was just us siblings in the house, well more like I and Aaron.
There was only the pack of chips left and I couldn't reach to put it in its cabinet.
"I'll do it," Alex offered, holding my waist and stretching only ever so slightly to put it in the cabinet for me.
I felt his body brush up against mine as he tried to put it in and I couldn't help but smile, plus his hand was around my waist.
CALM DOWN! YOU DO NOT LIKE HIM! I DO NOT LIKE ALEX! I reminded myself.
"Thanks," I said when he had done it.
"That's alright," he said looking into my eyes.
What is with him and looking into my eyes, with those eyes that could make me smile and feel weird? I have never gone out with anyone, so I'm defiantly not going to go out with someone who'd rather go with Clair to prom than with me.
I walked away angry and I'm sure that he could tell.
"Okay? What did I do?" Alex asked confused
"You and Clair, what's actually going on?" I asked irritated
"Oh, yeah, I need to tell you something," he said sounding guilty making me scared as to what he had to say.
He came back over to me and took my hand into his.
"Clair said.....that I got her........pregnant," he whispered, the end was inaudible
"Sorry?" I asked him, so that he could repeat it.
"I got Clair pregnant, she aborted it but I swear we always used protection," he defended, speaking faster as soon as I snatched my hand out of his.
"What does that have to do with the prom?" I asked looking away from him
"Nicki, she blackmailed me and said that if I didn't get back with her, then she'd tell everyone and I didn't even know so, I didn't want everyone to think that I told her to abort it," he rushed out again.
"Look at me, please," he begged. I couldn't help but turn around and look at him. He looked so distressed and sad, I felt like running up and hugging him.
"This doesn't make sense," I snapped, making him look at me confused
"You said you used something and I know that you can still get pregnant but it doesn't make sense," I tried to figure out
"When did she say that she did it?" I asked him
"Last week," he answered
"That doesn't make any sense," I said
"She's lying." I concluded
"I don't believe her, she sleeps around remember, it could have been anyone's child, if she was even pregnant," I spat
"You don't have to make excuses for my mistakes, Nicki," Alex said trying to stop me from making excuses, but it still didn't make sense. Alex hadn't been with her for up to three weeks, since she slept with that guy at the party.
Alex looked so vulnerable, I couldn't help myself. I went over to him and hugged him, going on my tiptoes and squeezing him. I know I took him for surprise but he hugged me back tightly and I didn't want to let go, but did so reluctantly.
I heard the door open and sneaked towards the door, only to see that it was Amber.
"Hey Nicki!" she squealed
"Hey Amber!" I screamed going to hug her.
She looked behind me and smiled faintly, I turned around to see Alex emerging from the kitchen. He smiled faintly as well and looked at me. I smiled hugely, encouraging him to smile which made him laugh as well as me.
Amber just looked between us and smiled as I just shook my head, as in 'no, don't even think that anything is going on between us.'
"Well....I'm gonna go see Aaron upstairs," she said before running up the stairs.
I rolled my eyes and walked back into the kitchen.
"You hungry?" I asked Alex as he just smiled and nodded anxiously making me laugh.
--------------------------------------------------Movie night
We watched Prom Night and as normal everyone snuggled up with someone. Not to my surprise, my someone was Alex. We sat on the floor next to Aly and Patrick and Amber and Aaron. While Ricky and Cassie, Katie and Drake and Aiden and Emily at on the sofa's taking up all of the space.
I jumped sometimes making Alex laugh at me which wasn't funny. It was making me kind of suspicious about our prom night and if this would happen on our prom night. God forbid!
"Don't worry, nothings gonna happen to you on our prom night," Alex assured me making me laugh since it was as if he was reading my mind.
"I hope not, but whose gonna protect me if something happens?" I asked waiting for his reply which was fast.
"Me," he answered and I could almost hear the smirk in his voice, which made me laugh as well as him.
"SHHHH!!!!" everyone said to us
"Sorry," I whispered while Alex just chuckled in the process making me laugh, since I was straddled by him.
I saw Aaron glare at Alex before Amber nudged him laughing at what he was doing.
The movie ended and everyone went to sleep on the floor or the chair, well everyone except me and Alex since we were talking about the film and what would happen if it happened to us.
"I'd punch the psycho and strangle him," Alex said
"But what if he had a knife?" I asked
"Then I'd snatch it from him and cut his throat like he cut that girl's," he replied
"Alright, but what if I was the main girl and we went to my house and he was there," I asked adding to the scenario
"Then I'd kill him instead of getting killed like that stupid guy," he defended
"Can you guys shut up were all trying to sleep," Drake said sleepily with his eyes still closed.
"Sorry," I whispered and sunk back into Alex
"Trying to get comfortable are we?" Alex whispered in my ear startling me and causing me to shiver slightly at the same time.
"Yeah," I answered honestly.
"Let me help you then," he said shifting us slightly and putting his arms around my stomach, as I put my arms around his.
"Better?" he asked smiling, since my head was now in the crook of his neck, able to see his face.
"Much better," I answered before he put his head on top of mine and I slowly drifted off into unconsciousness, feeling all tingly inside.
