when he gets into his car, everett is standing by it, kicking some loose gravel. his hands are shoved deeply into his jean pockets, and his hair is so tangled that aidan wants to comb through it with his fingers. he fights the urge not to.
instead, he sighs, getting out to walk over to him. "do you want something?"
everett keeps kicking, avoiding looking up at anything but his navy vans hitting the ground. "i'm sorry."
he can tell that everett is off, can tell that this entire situation is driving everett mad, but he chooses to be selfish, to ignore it. "whatever."
everett reaches out to grab his hands, and aidan notices they're trembling. his eyes are red-rimmed and watery again. "i'm sorry. for everything."
"why don't we just—"
everett escapes his grasp before aidan can say another word.
