Katy’s POV
Yet here I was, two days later, still stuck in this cell. At least they fed me, and the electricity was gone from the bars. A mark of good faith I suppose.
Of course I was still planning on killing them both once they let me out of this cell though. Thankfully, I was beginning to feel my wolf again. Good news since I was starting to worry that I had lost her. Already I could feel some of the minor injuries on my arms start to heal and turn pink with new skin.
One of the things that I have also been able to regain since then was my hearing. So when the door opened at the end of the hallway I was able to jump off my bed and stand attention.
“Can I be let out yet Neil? I’m going stir crazy just sitting in this itty bitty room for the last couple of days!” I called out to Neil.
Neil wasn’t the one to come to a halt in front of my room though. It was Kyle. OMG Kyle is here. I was being rescued. But then I saw the blood dripping onto the floor around Kyle. Even with the wounds though, he was able to pry apart the bars enough to haul his body through.
“Kyle!” I shrieked as he staggered into my prison room. He looked as if he had been tossed into a meat grinder a few times before finally being spit out into a pirana infested pool.
A relieved expression transformed his face, even despite the fact that his blood was now dripping onto the bleached white tile. That didn’t stop him though from rushing towards me and bringing me into a hug before releasing me and then pushing me backwards to take in every detail.
“Katy, are you okay?” he asked, eyeing the pink skin and some of the bruises that were almost faded away. I was just thankful that he couldn’t see the wounds that were so much worse underneath the gown.
“Fine enough. What about you?” I wanted to jump back into his arms and just hold him close but I was afraid that I would only hurt him more. That and the fact that we couldn’t afford to wait around in the cell. That was just asking for trouble to come.
He grinned at me and to me, it felt like a small piece of Heaven. “Just a few flesh wounds.” He shrugged.
I snorted, and muttered, “Men.”
He laughed but grabbed my hand all the same and I followed him into the hallway. Still reveling in being close to my mate, I didn’t realize that he had stopped until I ran into him.
Hissing I looked up to see that he had stopped to look at me. “What?” I asked curiously.
“Did you really join sides with them?”
“Yes.” I said, “they had me three days Kyle. Only one of those was spent screaming.”
In a quieter voice I said, “I didn’t want to scream in pain anymore Kyle.” I walked passed him and opened the door to the stairwell and started down them.
Silently he followed behind.
Halfway down I heard growling and the howls of pain coming from underneath me. I looked at Kyle, “What is that.”
“Your brother, Cameron. He’s holding off Tyler while I went to find you. Which wasn’t too difficult now that I think about it.” He said almost as an afterthought.
“It wasn’t like he would have guards,” I told him, “it would draw to much attention and blow his cover that the hospital wasn't abandoned as it should be.”
He nodded and we continued down the stairs, this time faster since I wanted to make sure Cameron was okay.
“He’s fine Katy.” Kyle tried to reassure me.
Once we reached the first floor, I peeked out through the small window that was in the door and looked out to see Cameron pinning Tyler to the floor.
Since it was safe to open the door, I pulled it open and Kyle and I walked over to Cameron.
“Knock him out Cam,” I said, “We need to go before Neil gets back.”
He growled but complied by grabbing Tyler with his powerful teeth and flinging him into the wall, sufficiently causing Tyler to turn back to his human form and slumped to the floor.
“Okay, let’s go—” I started to say but was cut off when a gun went off and a bullet lodged itself into Cam’s wolf’s left shoulder.
Cam howled out in pain as blood began pouring out of the wound.
“Silver!” I hissed before trying to get to Cam so I could pull of the bullet out quickly before it did any horrible damage.
When in our human forms, silver is just like any bullet, but in wolf form, as soon as it wounds a shifter, the wound is going to scar. That’s only if you get the silver out in time though. If the silver stays embedded, then it will first cripple the wolf, then cause hallucinations, and then death. Once the hallucinations start though, it’s better to just let the wolf die since once that occurs, it’s very likely that the wolf is going to go feral.
Or, even worse, is if the opposite occurs. Instead of the hallucinations, the wolf will start convulsing before changing back to the human form. The transformation usually heals us, but if the silver is embedded, then the human form will go into epileptic shock after the change and finally go still as the body starts to shut down. Even if the bullet was removed during any of this, its highly likely that the shifter will die.
But before I could get to him, Kyle quickly pulled me to him as someone started clapping.
It was Neil, “Well give the girl a prize.” He said.
Ignoring Neil, I struggled to get out of Kyle’s grasp so that I could get to my brother. He only held me tighter.
“Let me go!” I hissed at Kyle.
Neil raised an eyebrow, “Lovers spat? Well, teenagers your age never really have lasting relationships, ones that stay happy throughout their mating anyways.
“I just can’t wait to kill you!” I spat at him.
He clucked his tongue, “Promises, promises.”
I picked up my right foot and reared backward into Kyle’s knee cap hoping he would let go, he didn’t. He didn’t even stumble.
Neil looked amused as I continued to struggle, “Better hurry Katy, it looks like your brother is now crippled. It’s a shame that Lyte isn’t awake to finish him off. Stupid mutt.”
“Kyle!” I thrashed out at him.
“Katy!” he shouted and held me closer, “It’s a trap; he wants us separated. The faster we take care of him, the faster we will can help your brother!”
I huffed and only stilled slightly. I still wanted to go and help, but I was willing to listen.
We need a distraction. Kyle said through our bond.
I sighed temporarily at the bliss of being connected again to my mate before remembering I had to keep struggling against Kyle so it would like we were still fighting.
What do you have in mind? I asked him.
Well since it looks like we are fighting, I want you attack me. He said.
Attack you! I screeched into his head.
He winced. Yeah, obviously he is looking for an opening to use against us. All you need to do hit me convincingly enough so that I can fake a fall. Neil is either going to go after you while your back is turned or at me since I’m ‘incapacitated’. I’ll be ready though, and I’ll cover your back.
Fine. I huffed at him and swung around to face him before head butting him.
Whatever works. I said and rushed toward Cameron.
The plan worked, but instead of going after Kyle, Neil came after me. Like Kyle had promised, he easily tackled Neil away from me. Since Kyle had the advantage he quickly flung Neil into a wall, temporarily dazing him. Using that time, Kyle shifted and was just about to lung at him for the killing blow when Neil flung his body to the side and shifted.
I couldn’t focus on Kyle right now though, I had to save Cam first. “Hold on Cameron.” I pleaded to him.
Before I could get to my knees to help him, the thing that Kyle and I didn’t account for happened. Tyler woke up and lunged at me in wolf form.
“Shit!” I cursed as Tyler’s wolf pinned me to the floor.
