laying beneath the cool earth,
darkness wrapped tightly around me,
my closest friend,
my second face,
with me through the end.
empty heart,
empty lungs,
icy fingertips,
open eyes.
and

i don't know whether to let my eyes close,
silence is all that's left of me,
and let you slip away,
a throw i never quite caught,
or
cling to the deteriorating world
that wilts as i rot to faint memories
soon to be forgotten,
reaching for your hand that's no longer extended.
but
either way
you still leave
like the last breath
that slowly spills out of my parted lips.
