Green’s pidgeot landed by the Route 1 entrance in Pallet Town. Green thanked his beloved bird pokemon and summoned him back into his ball. Green heard footsteps running towards him and he turned around, seeing his sister running towards him. Before he had the chance to say anything, Daisy slapped him hard against his face. Green winced at the stinging sensation lingering on his cheek and looked back at his sister.

“I deserve that,” he stated.

“Damn right you do! Green, I was really worried about you!” Daisy frowned, her tone quickly switching from angry to sad.

“Daisy, I was only gone for a couple hours,” Green said, looking at his sister and frowning.

“Check the time on your phone.”

Green pulled out his phone and flipped it open. His eyes widened when his phone said it was a quarter past three in the morning. I guess I really lost track of time. But it didn’t really take me that long to fly to Pallet Town… did it?

“Oh Daisy,” Green sighed, putting his phone away, “I’m really sorry. I wasn’t looking at the time. But I’m really curious, why didn’t you call or text me?”

“My phone died earlier today and I lost the charger a couple days ago. Remember?” She asked.

“Oh, right,” Green chuckled sheepishly. How could he forget?

Green turned his attention from his sister to his childhood rival’s house. On the doorstep, he saw the black-haired man sitting against the door, watching Green and Daisy. Green looked back at Daisy.

“Excuse me, I need to talk to Red for a moment,” Green said, walking away from his sister. She gave him a sad look before returning back into her home.

Green walked over to Red, his heart racing. He was scared to confront Red about what he witnessed earlier. What if he’s drunk? What if he gets violent like before? Green’s thoughts came to a halt once he arrived at Red’s house and saw the champion give him a small smile.

No, he couldn’t have been drinking.

“Hey,” Red greeted his boyfriend, smiling up at him.

“Go inside, we need to talk,” Green said, trying to hide the anxiety in his voice.

Red gave him a confused look, but opened the door anyway. Once the two were inside, Red closed the door behind them and sat down on the couch. Green sat down next to him and let out a shaky sigh.

“Red, I saw you walking into the liquor store earlier today.”

Green looked at his boyfriend, who went stiff and had wide eyes.

“Green, it’s not what you think. You have to believe me,” Red pleaded, looking up to the brunet.

“Why else would you go in there, Red? You’re supposed to stay away from that stuff!” Green almost shouted. Anxiety, disappointment, sadness, and anger were consuming him all at once. He couldn’t maintain his composure any longer. The gym leader felt tears prick his eyes, threatening to fall.

“I have a friend there. His name is Peter; he’s the cashier at the liquor store. When I would go there almost every day, he and I became friends. Green, you have to believe me,” the black-haired man said, holding onto Green’s hand gently.

Green withdrew his hand. “Prove it to me tomorrow. It’s too late right now. I’m tired and I have work tomorrow from nine to five.”

The gym leader stood up from his seat on the couch and headed towards the door. Before he could get the door open, he felt a hand on his arm. He turned around to see Red’s face, which was full of regret and panic.

“I’ll prove it to you. I promised you that I was going to quit and I’m going to keep that promise. I love you too much to hurt you again,” Red said, tears now falling from his eyes and down his cheeks.

Green looked at his childhood rival and frowned. He seems like he’s telling the truth. He wouldn’t cry if he was lying. Trust is an important part in a relationship, Green. You have to trust him.

No matter how much the brunet tried to convince himself to not let his guard down around Red, he did. He wrapped his arms around Red and pulled him close.

“I believe you,” Green simply stated.

Red began to wail in Green’s chest, wrapping his arms around the brunet’s waist tightly. The champion’s red hat fell off of his head in the process. Green grunted at the sudden tightness, but didn’t say anything. Instead, his right hand came up to Red’s head and gently stroked the black hair.

“Shhh, it’s okay,” Green hushed his boyfriend, still stroking his hair lovingly.

A few minutes passed and Red still had his face buried in Green’s chest, lightly sniffing. Finally, Red spoke up.

“I should have told you about Peter. I’m sorry. I didn’t think about –“

“It’s okay, it’s all settled now,” Green interrupted, gently pulling away from the raven-haired man.

The brunet gave his boyfriend a small kiss on the forehead. He bent down and picked up Red’s hat before handing it to him.

“You dropped something,” Green smiled.

“Thanks,” Red slightly smiled as he took the hat from Green and placed it back on his head.

“As I said before, I have to work from nine to five tomorrow, so I should head home and get some rest,” the brunet said. He didn’t really want to leave Red, but it was really late and work was already boring enough as it is – he didn’t want to fall asleep in the middle of a battle.

Red frowned. “Goodnight.”

Green swooped down and stole a quick kiss from Red’s lips. “Goodnight.”

The black-haired man smiled and wrapped his arms around his boyfriend’s neck, pulling him in for a longer kiss. Green muffled a yelp against Red’s lips in surprise, but soon wrapped his arms around his waist.

Red’s lips were so warm and soft. Every kiss he shared with Red was a wonderful one. Green wanted nothing more than to just kiss Red all day, but unfortunately, this was the real world.

Green pulled away from his boyfriend and gave him a peck on the tip of his nose.

“I’ll see you tomorrow. Maybe we can watch that movie after I meet Peter,” Green said, referring to when Red asked him earlier if he wanted to come by and watch a movie.

“It’s a date,” Red smiled at his boyfriend before watching him leave his house.

Green walked back to his house only to find that Daisy wasn’t outside anymore and his house lights were off. She probably went to bed now that she knows I’m safe.

A pang of guilt washed over the gym leader as he quietly opened the door to his house. His sister cared about him so much, but he always pushed her away. She had become so paranoid over his safety ever since their parents died when Green was on his pokemon adventure.

The brunet child was at a Pokemon Center. He was sitting on a bench, sobbing at the loss of his raticate. After Red had defeated Green on the S.S. Anne, Green was challenged by another trainer before he could get back to his room. The naïve child accepted the challenge and his poor raticate was severely burned by a rapidash. He still remembered the nurse’s words “I’m sorry, but he didn’t make it.”

Suddenly, his cell phone started to ring. Green dug it out of his pocket and wiped his tears away before answering the call.

“Hello?” he asked.

“Green, you need to come back to Pallet Town. It’s an emergency,” the other person on the line said. It was Green’s sister Daisy.

“I’ll be there soon. I have something important to take care of right now,” Green replied.

“Okay, but hurry!” Daisy said before she ended the call.

Green put his phone back into his pocket and sighed.

“Oh great, today just keeps getting better and better,” Green mumbled to himself, carrying his dead raticate out of the Pokemon Center. He withdrew his Pidgeotto from his ball and ordered it to fly to Lavender Town. The bird pokemon obeyed his master’s order and waited for Green to get onto his back before flying.

Once they arrived in Lavender Town, Green walked up to the Pokemon Tower and ordered a spot for his raticate.

After the burial, Green sobbed loudly. He couldn’t stand this awful feeling. He felt so much guilt. If only he could’ve gotten off of that stupid boat sooner, then he probably could have saved his beloved rat pokemon.

Suddenly, Green felt a tap on his shoulder. He jumped before quickly drying his eyes and turning around to see who tapped his shoulder.

Oh, it’s Red.

“What are you doing here?” Green hissed.

Red stayed silent, as always.

The brunet sighed. He really didn’t feel like tormenting Red right now. He had problems of his own to take care of.

“Do you know what it’s like to lose someone?” he asked, leaning against the wall beside his raticate’s tombstone.

Red simply shook his head.

“Of course not,” Green scoffed, “you’ve always had it good.”

The brunet walked past Red, bumping his shoulder roughly against the other’s.

“Smell ya later,” he stated, walking out of the Pokemon Tower.

After Green landed in Pallet Town, he saw a few police cars outside of his house. What could have possibly happened?

The brunet child ran into his house and saw his grandfather and Daisy talking to a couple of police officers. Daisy was clutching onto Professor Oak’s lab coat, sobbing loudly.

“What… what’s going on?” Green asked, even though he didn’t want to hear the answer.

Professor Oak looked at his grandson with a worried and sad expression.

“Green… your parents died in a car crash earlier this morning.”

As Green relived this memory, tears fell freely from his eyes and his heart broke once again. He looked at the couch where his sister was asleep. She looked uncomfortable – tossing, turning, and shivering in her sleep. Green grabbed a nearby blanket and draped it over Daisy. He watched as her troubled expression relaxed and she stopped moving about.

“I’m sorry I worry you so much,” Green whispered, moving a piece of hair out of his sister’s eyes. “Goodnight.”

The brunet tip-toed up the stairs as quietly as he could and walked into his bedroom. He looked around and sighed before turning on the lamp on his night stand so he could see in his dark room. The gym leader stripped down to his boxers and released his eevee from her ball so she could sleep with him.

Green lay down in his bed and pulled the covers over himself. Eevee jumped up and curled up against her owner’s chest. Green gave her a few gentle strokes on her head before he reached his hand out to turn off the lamp on his night stand.

His hand froze as he saw his parents’ wedding picture out of the corner of his eye, right below the lamp. He studied the picture closely. Mr. Oak was smiling with his arm around Mrs. Oak and Mrs. Oak was looking up at her new husband, smiling wide. Green frowned. They looked so happy in the picture. Oh how he wished to see their smiles in person just one more time. He had always been such a brat to them when he was a child and that was something he could never forgive himself for.

“Mom… Dad… I miss you so much,” Green whispered quietly, turning the picture upside down. Before he knew it, tears were falling down his cheeks again. Eevee noticed this and made a worried noise.

“Shhh, Daisy’s asleep. I’m okay, girl,” Green assured his eevee, petting her gently. His eevee let out a cat-like purr and closed her eyes again.

“Goodnight,” the brunet said, turning the lamp off. He buried his face in his pillow and closed his eyes, quickly falling asleep.
