he returns to school wearing a green crewneck, smiling at everyone in the hallways. he walks to yasmine's locker, and she looks up at him in surprise.
"i wanted to give you this," he murmurs, handing her the gift. "you'll love it, it has to do with thanksgiving when you came over. and if you see eve, can you pass it on to her? it's a charm for her bracelet, a petunia. she loves them."
she holds the gifts, and tears well up in her eyes. wrapping him into a hug, she whispers, "i hope you end up with the one you love."
he nods even though she can't see him. "you too, yasmine."
pulling away, he trudged to the private room reserved for musicians, the one that he had a panic attack in weeks earlier.
everett is in there, playing his cello rapidly with his eyes closed.
