his mom drives him to school the next morning. "your father and i have been noticing that something's been happening with you recently. you've been staying out late, not talking during dinner, and then this shows up at your house."
she hands him a letter with his name on it, surprisingly unopened.
"i'm sorry," he apologizes. that's all he ever does lately. "i promise that i'll tell you soon, okay?"
she still looks worried, so he reaches over the center console to hug her. "i love you, mom."
he hasn't said it enough.
