You know, I seem to be reeeaaally good at wrighting death fics... I mean, I've killed off Zero, and this (nameless) child in this story :3 I'm useless -_-||| For a school project peoples!

__________________________________________________________________

I am running. There are explosions behind me. My parents are dead. There is no place for me to return to. Blood drips down my sleeve from a large gash on my forearm. My whole body hurts, but I cannot stop. There are people behind me. People who want me dead. Loud gunshots ring behind me, I tighten my grip around my dagger. I am scared. The horror of these events will never leave me.

I run faster, and the Japanese shout. "Tomare! Ima tomare! [Stop! Stop right now!]"

I can't understand them, but I have a vague idea of what they are saying. I pick up my speed, panting hard. The cut on my arm aches, and more blood drips out. It is red, like a rose. I duck into an alleyway and hopefully, they do not see me. I walk down the alleyway, and into an empty house. I search through the house for cloth and food.

Swinging open doors one by one, I pass a family of corpses, lying in the living room. The father is protecting to the mother and children even at their last minute. I sniff, lucky them. My eyes moisten up, and my vision blurs. Is it the effects of blood loss, or tears? I rip up a piece of cloth with the remaining strength I have. Wrapping the badly ripped cloth around my completely bloodied arm, I stand up.

I stumble and lean on the wall. I cannot stay in this place for long. I shake my head as if to rid myself of this thought. This place is safe; safe from the Japanese soldiers. They've been here, killed, and left. They won't be back. But a small part of my brain knows; they will be back. They will search for me, and kill me. I shouldn't have eavesdropped on them. I step out of the house, stomach growling loudly. I have to face them, let them kill me, and leave this world in peace.

I run to the harbour, I know they'll be there.

One of the soldiers sees me as I step out of the alleyway. They all recognize me. They know me as the boy who eavesdropped on their plan. Another soldier points, he yells at me in terrible Mandarin. "Join us, boy," he says, "Join us, and we will help you. You can work for us, we have food, water, shelter."

I stick my tongue out at him. I'd rather die than work with them. I turn to run again. I collide with a man, three times my size.

"Young boy," the man bellows, his Mandarin is not bad. "Join us, and we will spare you. Join us, and you can live in comfort."

Like the all the boys in the town, I smirk cheekily. I consider this offer, it sounds so tempting. There are not many who are offered this. Suddenly, an idea hits me. I will destroy them from within. I am an avenger. Even if I must take the devil’s fruit, I will avenge the fallen. I look at the man. "I'll join you," I say. I point my dagger at the man. "Let me join you." The large man smirks, it looks weird on him. “I am Takashi.” He ruffles my dirty, matted hair. "What is your name?"

"Xu Long," I say, "It means Xu dragon."

The smirk does not leave his face. “Good boy.”

We arrive at the base of the Japanese soldiers. I shudder at the sight of men so barbaric. The large man smiles at me and leads me into a building. There a beds, a shiver runs up my spine as I glance at them. The soldiers on the beds are muntified to no extent. They look dead, but they grin maniacally at me. There is no one my age. No boys like me. I wonder why they want me. The large man sits me on a stool and speaks to another man in a white coat. This is the doctor, no doubt about it.

He takes my arm and removes the cloth. The cloth is red, dripping with crimson liquid. It is soak with my blood. The doctor pokes my arm, and I flinch. He smiles at me and whispers. "It's ok, I was also offered this job." His Mandarin is perfect, he is definitely Chinese. It's nice to know that I have an ally, a fellow prisoner. “Chen,” He tells me, “Just call me Chen.” He puts a mysterious ointment on my cut, and it instantly feels better. He wraps proper bandages over it, and the blood seeps through almost immediately.

"I'm Xu Long." I say, blinking rapidly at the way he treats my wounded arm.

Doctor Chen looks distressed. "This is a very bad injury," he says, "It will leave a scar." I nod, I don't care. As if he can read my mind, he tells me. "Come back tomorrow, I’ll figure out what to do.”

Takashi has stood by all this time. He looks at me. "Come." He leads me to a large tent. "You will sleep here." He points to a bundle of pillows and blankets. This place is better than home. Maybe I won't destroy them after all.

It's been two weeks. They have treated me well, my wound has partially healed. They have given me what they promised, and I have done what they asked. They had taught me Japanese; it gives me an advantage. They have renamed me 'Ryu', it means dragon in Japanese. The Japanese have started training me for battle, I do not see any boys my age. I learnt that they wanted my stealthy skills to get information from the Chinese. I will do as they ask for now, but soon, I will overthrow them.

Every night, I sneak out to listen to the leaders' plans. They plan to attack the harbour, they plan to make China their own.

I visit the doctor everyday, and he provides me with information about what is going on out of base. The Japanese plan to put me into battle. They expect me to fight my own kin. They expect me to kill my friends. With nothing to resort to, I tell the doctor my plan. He smiles at me, his expression is easy to read. He wants to help me.

That night, as usual, I sneak out. This time, with my dagger. The main building's lights are bright. I open the door, praying that it wouldn't creak. Luckily, it swings open swiftly. I hide behind this door, voices are coming from the next room. I tiptoe over and lean against the door.

“-that boy has to go, this place is not for children!” one man says.

“But his skills are amazing!” A voice I recognise as Takashi’s retorts.

“He might be leaking information from us to the Chinese though!” another man defends. “The boy has to go, before he knows too much!”

Takashi refuses to back down. “I- You- WE need his skills, he is an abnormal treasure. I refuse to think that Ryu is leaking information!”

I swallow hard, a lump is forming in my throat. Takashi... He thinks this highly of me? A feeling of guilt comes over me.

“He could be listening to us right this moment! He was the one that over heard our original plan and told the Chinese, was he not?” the first man hisses.

This makes me remember the night the Japanese killed my family, the people I worked for, my friends; everyone close to me.

I shake my head. No, I must kill these people. They killed my family, friends, acquaintances. I must avenge them. I am an avenger. Even if I must take the devil’s fruit, I will avenge the fallen.

I step forward, I don’t hear the creak in the floorboards, but the Japanese officers do. They swing open the door, I see the horrified look on Takashi’s face. Frozen for a single moment, we stare at each other.

I grip my dagger and charge at the man beside Takashi. The blade of my dagger sinks to the hilt, into the man’s stomach. I pull the dagger out, warm red liquid spills out of the official’s stomach and onto my hand. Another official pulls out a pistol. My eyes widen, and realising what I had just done; I leg it.

I have just proven their suspicions correct. I dash out of the building, the officials chasing after me, shouting and screaming. I’m breathing hard, it seems that they knew I was going to try and kill them. It must have been Doctor Chen must have told them.

Slipping into a crevice in an alleyway, I slide down the wall, huffing and wheezing. I see a glint in a corner. I shoot up immediately, taking a fighting stance. A person’s figure steps out of the shadows, a sniper rifle in hand.

“I knew what you were going to do from the second I met you,” the person says. “That wild look in your eyes; I could recognise it anywhere.”

I pant hard like a dog. “I shouldn’t- I shouldn’t have told you my plan,” I wheeze.

Doctor Chen smirks. “Well, I had to get it out of you, or else it would have been false information. I had to make you trust me.”

He points the rifle at me. “You were smart, boy.”

I close my eyes, ready for my death.

“Goodbye.”

Hearing this phrase, I raise my arm, and in a split second, I stab myself in the stomach. Japanese suicide. I groan, but I’ve felt worse pain in my life.

I smile at the look on Doctor Chen’s face. He looks confused, horrified, happy; He looks completely and utterly shocked.

I pull out the dagger, and blood pours out. The doctor looks shaky, his arms are trembling. My vision blurs, I have many regrets. I want to thank Takashi, I want to relive this wretched life of mine.

I sigh, there’s nothing I can do about it now.

BANG!

The shivering doctor had pulled the trigger of the rifle, and the bullet pierces me in the ribs. I cough up more blood, and the red liquid flows swiftly down the drain. As if a thick mist has covered my eyes, everything becomes murky and white.

I am waiting for my life to flash before me, but nothing happens. I hear footsteps. They gradually fade away, as if someone has blocked my ears. My senses are not functioning. The murky whiteness is cleared, and all I can see is black. Pure black.

I should never have made the plan to destroy the Japanese, I should never have trusted Chen, I should never have eavesdropped on the Japanese officials, I should never have done anything.

I thought it was a perfect plan. Then again; there is no such thing as a perfect plan.

Is this the end for me?
