Rehearsal Dinner

Cassandra

“You shouldn’t have told her about us.” I said for what felt like the hundredth

time.

“It was the right thing to do.” He replied for the hundredth time. I pressed my lips

and looked away from him. I heard him blow out a frustrated breath, but he didn’t

say anything.

After the little revelation, I had done some last minute checks and left the hotel

with Salvatore while Marcie stayed behind.

My phone started ringing. I quickly fished it out of my purse and pressed the call

button.

“Hello?”

Cass, where are you?” answered an irate Naina from the other end.

“On my way, why?” I asked, clearly amused. Naina had volunteered to go

shopping with Martina so that Salvatore and I could have some ‘us’ time.

I swear I’m just a second away from strangling her, consequences be damned!”

She gritted out. I could almost see her pulling her hairs out in frustration. I smiled

but held my laugh.

“Alright, have some control. I’ll be there in a few.”

Hurry up, or I’ll not be responsible for my actions.” She said.

“Yes, ma’am.” I teased her as I snapped my phone shut.

“Naina?” Salvatore asked with a small smile. I schooled my expression for I was

still angry with him.

“Yeah.” I said shortly. I think I heard something like a growl but I refused to look

in his direction. The rest of the drive was silent.

“Oh, my baby’s looking so good!” Martina gushed. Marcie rolled her eyes but I

saw the unmistakable pride in her eyes. I looked away, the feeling of loneliness

slowly creeping back.

I wish you were here, mom. I thought, fingering her necklace that now graced my

neck.

“Well, I’m going to dress up now.” Martina said as she rushed past us. I rolled my

eyes. I wanted to say that there was a few hours before the rehearsal dinner started,

but wisely kept my mouth shut. Instead, I turned to Marcie, fixing her hairs.

“So, you and Salvatore?” Marcie said, or rather sneered, breaking the peaceful

silence.

“Yeah.” I answered vaguely, not wanting her butting in my business again.

“Well, you move fast.” She said off-handedly, but I sensed the smugness in her

voice.

“You’re the one to talk.” I shot back, restraining myself from hitting her, hard.

“And what’s that supposed to mean?” she screeched.

“Do I need to remind you that it took you mere few days to move on your

boyfriend? Oh, and not to mention get engaged to my boyfriend?” I gave a sharp tug

at her hair, she winced.

“I thought you loved him?’ she shot back. I raised my eyebrows at her.

“Really? I mean it’s your fiancé that we’re talking about here.” I narrowed my

eyes at her. I knew damn well that they didn’t love each other, but now, my

suspicions were conformed. I felt Marcie stiffen.

“Yeah, I mean, uh, he’s mine, so uh… you know, there’s no threat of you taking

him, uh, from me.” she stuttered. Marcie stutters only when she’s caught off guard.

My brain was still working overtime but I kept my face passive so as not to give

anything away. Last thing I wanted was Marcie knowing that I was onto her. This

would make her more careful.

“I was never a threat. I mean I thought I loved him but after the breakup, I

realized that it was just an infatuation. I’m rather glad that I broke up with him.” I

said with a smile as Marcie gasped in surprise. “Otherwise, I would’ve never met a

guy like Salvatore.” I said in a dreamy voice, rubbing it in her face. Her surprise

turned into fury as she seethed at me. “All done!” I said with fake enthusiasm as I

gave her a little pat on the head and hurried away before she had a chance to open

her mouth.

“You look stunning.” Salvatore murmured in my ear as his hand encircled my

waist, my back pressing to his chest.

“Thanks.” I smiled despite myself.

“Are you feeling alright?” he asked, concern evident in his voice. We had been

apart for most of the day. I was rather surprised for I had thought that Salvatore

would keep me attached to the hip.

“Perfectly fine.” Pleased by my answer, he placed feather-light kisses on my bare

shoulder. I shivered as a sudden wave of desire crashed through me. “Salvatore…” I

said in a breathy voice.

“Hmm?” he hummed as he continued kissing my shoulder, moving onto my neck.

“Someone will see us.” I murmured, but at the back of my mind I knew I couldn’t

care less about anyone else. But when I heard footsteps approaching, I squirmed.

“Salvatore, let go.” He grudgingly let go of me, but kept a hand around my waist.

“Let’s go, Madame.” He whispered in my ear.

“Let’s.” I whispered back and let him steer me towards the ballroom which was

bustling with festivities.

“Hey.” Jeremy said as he came to stand by me.

“Hi.” I said as I awkwardly shifted from one foot to another. Salvatore had gone to

chat with some of his colleagues while I went to get some juice for me.

“You look beautiful.” He said, looking me straight in the eye.

“Thanks.” I said briskly, not returning the compliment.

“I heard about your new boyfriend.” He stated. I kept my mouth shut, in no mood

to explain further. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw him shake his head in defeat.

“Why?” he asked mildly, but I detected an undertone of possessiveness. I bristled in

anger.

“None of your business.” I gritted out. before he could say anything else, I

stormed away. Walking blindly, I collided with something hard. Hand snaked onto

my waist to steady me, recognizing him instantly, I embraced him.

“What happened, sweetheart?” Salvatore asked in low tone. I shook my head, not

wanting to spoil the moment. I lifted my head to meet his eyes.

“Dance with me.” I whispered. Without another word, he swept me onto the dance

floor. Wrapped in our own personal bubble, we danced all night long.

In perfect harmony.

Yeah, yeah, I deserve it! I'm really sorry for the long wait. I know saying

anything would be giving excuses but my only words are that the work load

was staggering. And even thought I love you guys, I cannot ignore my work.

Sorry again.

To compensate for my prolonged absence, I'm posting the first part of the

Wedding chapter tomorrow! That's a promise!
