Angelica's POV
"You did?"
John was about to open his mouth when he turned his head and so did Angelica. There was a car coming at her, at a hundred miles per hour. She couldn't move, she was frozen and filled with fear. She squeezed her eyes shut and prayed for it to be fast.
What happened next, Angelica couldn't even begin to comprehend. John pushed her aside and took the hit.
"WAIT!"
Angelica landed on the sidewalk as John remained crumpled on the road. Angelica ran over beside him.
"John! JOHN!" Angelica shook him but he remained unmoving. A crowd started to gather around her.
"HELP!"
"Someone, call the police, or an ambulance, or something!" Tears formed around her eyes as she kept shaking John's battered body. "John, no, JOHN!"
She refused to tear herself away from him, even when the ambulance came.
A paramedic took her aside "Ma'am only immediate family are allowed in the back, I need you to take a cab."
"He's my husband!" Angie fibbed quickly. "Please, I can't leave him."
The paramedic sighed. "Fine, but we need you to fill out these forms about him then."
Angelica's breath caught in her throat. "Uh, later, can I see him please?"
The ride to the hospital was long and bleak as Angelica tried relentlessly to get her sister on the phone.
"Come on, Eliza, pick up, pick up!" Angelica's hand shook every time she tried to dial the number and her other hand stayed latched onto John's.
"Look, when you get this, come to the hospital, there was an accident, an-and," Angelica's voice cracked. "I don't know if John's even alive, just please call me, okay?"
"How much longer till the hospital?" Angelica was already shaken.
"Not much farther, just hold on."

John's POV
There were bright lights.
A loud voice calling his name.
He knew that voice.
It was so familiar.
Why couldn't he see her?
What happened?
Why couldn't he move?
Why was the voice crying?
Don't cry, I'm fine.
I think.
Am I really?

Angelica's POV
"This is where you stop, ma'am," Angelica turned.
"What? No, I have to stay!" Angelica only clutched onto John harder.
"No one except doctors beyond this point," She had to let go.
"You can wait in those seats," the paramedic motioned to the waiting area. Angelica positioned herself onto a seat mindlessly.
"Angelica?" She turned to see none other than Aaron Burr.
"What, Aaron? What're you doing here?"
"I could ask you the same thing," Aaron had a drawn look on his face, as if he had been here the entire night.
"I came with John to visit his family, a-a-and I guess we got careless in Chicago," Angelica put her head in her hands. "You? I don't see you around at college."
Aaron sighed. "We took a break in our final year."
"We?"
"Me and Theo. We were gonna get married here, since her family stays here,"
"What happened?"
"Theo got sick. Really sick. The night before the wedding, she passed out. We thought it was nerves, but it kept happening throughout the day, until she wouldn't wake up. We took her here. Her family left, but I decided to stay,"
"I'm sorry," Angelica looked up. "Also, congratulations, I guess."
Aaron managed a pained smile. "Thank you,"
"Mrs. Laurens?"
Aaron almost smirked. "Mrs. Laurens?"
"They wouldn't let me stay otherwise!" Angelica hissed quickly. "Uh, over here,"
The nurse motioned for her to follow. Angelica picked up her belongings.
"Uh, good luck," Angelica said to Aaron before walking after the nurse.
"So, how long have you known him?"
"A long time," Angelica answered vaguely.
"And are there any immediate family that need to be notified?"
"I've already called everyone who needs to know."
"And any history of diseases in the family?"
"He doesn't talk about them."
The nurse stopped. "Look, if you aren't going to be honest with me, then I wouldn't bother going in the room."
"Can I see him or no?"
"You and I both know that this little charade of acting to be married isn't real," the nurse motioned to her finger. "I don't see a ring. I don't know what you're trying to do, but it's not going to bode well with me!"
Angelica froze. "Well, we took our rings off for safekeeping," Angelica shot back.
"I'm married to a lawyer, I know how this works. You are not married."
"Look, nurse... Sawyer? Please, I need to see him, is he awake?"
The nurse sighed. "You don't even know, do yoU?"
"Know what?" Angie scoffed. "I know that I can't see my husband because some nurse isn't letting me!"
"I already told you, it's obvious that you aren't married!"
"My husband is in there, suffering and you won't even let me - "
"He's a hemophiliac!" The nurse exclaimed, her temper flaring.
"What?"
"His blood doesn't clot! And his wounds might never heal! I bet you'd wish you never 'married' him now, right?" Angelica couldn't see straight. She barely heard her sister call her name down the hall or see Alex's scared face. She could only hear the ringing sound of the nurse's voice saying his wounds might never heal,
Why didn't he tell me?

Eliza's POV
"There was an accident." Eliza kept replaying Angelica's voice over and over again.
"Oh my god, take us to the hospital!" Alex yelled.
"But that's the other direc-"
"NOW!" The meek driver listened to Alex's instructions.
"How do you think she's handling it?" Eliza whispered.
"Better than us," Alex ran his hand through his hair.
"Don't act like you don't see what's happening between them!" Eliza exclaimed.
"Yeah, but they both deny it. How do you get two people who think that they don't want to be together get together?"
Eliza sighed. "We have to delay the flight."
"I'll get the Washingtons on that."
"Should we notify John's siblings?"
Alex hesitated before answering firmly. "No, John wouldn't want that."
Eliza nodded in understanding.
"We're here," Alex practically jumped out of the car while Eliza paid the driver.
The couple ran into the hospital which earned them a few stares. "There! Angelica!" Eliza waved her hand.
Angelica didn't even turn. "Angie!" they started to walk toward her.
Eliza put a hand on her shoulder. "Ange?" Her sister didn't move.
"She's in shock," The nurse said.
"What happened?" Eliza gently led her sister back to a chair.
"''Liza?" Angelica seemed to be back.
"Yeah, yeah I'm here," she said softly.
Her sister buried her face into her chest and started sobbing as Eliza stroked her hair.
"Shh, it's alright,"
"It's my fault! H-h-he might not even survive and it's my fault!"
Eliza tried to contain her surprise. "No, it's not your fault, I'm sure he'll be fine."
What happened?

Alex's POV
Alex noticed a familiar face in the chairs. "Well, if it isn't Aaron Burr!"
"Sir!" Aaron looked up.
"I didn't think that you would be here."
"To be sure," Aaron gave a pained smile.
"What's up?"
"My blood pressure," he laughed weakly. "You're here for John?"
"Yeah, you?"
"Theodosia took ill."
"I see," Alex noticed a ring on Aaron's finger. "You were gonna get married?"
"Yeah, you?" Aaron gestured at Alex's hand.
"Oh, it's a promise ring, not the real deal,"
"Well, we graduate in a few months, but Theo didn't want to wait," Alexander recalled Aaron being older than him.
"Congrats."
"You too."
They both sighed and settled down to wait for it.
Oops, much sadness.
Oops.
Well, hope you enjoyed!
