Chapter 16
Zalyina's POV
"Wait so Lucas is with Payton, but really likes Brooke..."
"No Lucas is with Brooke, but really likes Payton" I said correcting Anthony.
"Oh okay ... but does Payton like him back?"
"Yeah but she won't admit it" I replied.
It was three in the morning on now Saturday and Anthony and I literally spent our Friday night watching One Tree Hill on Netflix. By Wednesday Anthony was fully moved in and I had actually got used to his company. We drive to school together, come home together, eat together, watch tv together, and I have to say the kid's not as bad as I thought. He's actually pretty funny and I've grown fond of having him with me in the past week.
"I can't seem to understand how I didn't think to put a theatre in my home" Anthony said while getting a soda from the snack bar.
"It probably has something to do with me being smarter than you."
"You wish" he replied.
I laughed and put a skittle in my mouth.
Simi was sprawled out by my feet with a paw over his face. Anthony sat back down on the lounge bed next to me and sipped his drink.
"So what happens when he gets too big."
"We'll get a bigger bed."
"Seriously. How are you going to keep a fully grown male tiger once you go off to college."
"I've never really thought of that."
"Hmm" He said while petting Simi.
"I love Simi I don't ever wanna get rid of him" I said.
"Hopefully you won't have to."
We watched about 4 more episodes before drifting asleep. When I opened my eyes I was on my stomach with my head in Anthony's side and Simi's head was resting on his stomach. He was snoring lightly and I closed my eyes drifting back asleep. When I woke up the second time Simi was gone and so was Anthony. I sat up stretching my back out and my legs. I walked over to my bathroom and brushed my teeth. I limped down the stairs to the kitchen where the smell of bacon hit me instantly. Anthony was sitting at the island table stuffing his face and Simmi was on the floor eating his meat. My chef was preparing my bagel and smiled when he saw me.
"Morning sleepy head" he said while putting the bagel in front of a chair.
"Morning Lando" I said while taking a seat.
I looked over at Anthony who was still stuffing his face and laughed.
"What's so funny" he asked.
"You're a pig eating pig" I said while taking a bite out of my bagel.
"Well this pig tastes marvelous."
"I bet."
Raymen's POV
"Raymen Raymen" the two little voices called my name while running towards me with their back packs flopping up and down.
"Stop running" I yelled and they went from running to speed walking. I laughed, the kids were pretty funny.
My little brothers Alex and Nicki were five years old and two little mischievous children. I missed them so much that it felt like I was gone forever. They looked like my mom with curly brown hair and green eyes. I opened the door and they jumped in the back seat.
" Seat belts" I said before shutting the door.
"We know" they said it sync.
"How was school" I asked and as I started up the car.
"Good Ms.Fields gave us candy since it was Friday" Nicki said while opening his lunch box.
"Alex?"
"Good I got a good star for cleaning my table without being asked."
"Good job buddy."
I drove home while the boys enlightened me about some tv show named adventure time. When my father was alive we lived pretty great. He was a doctor and my mom was an accountant. I was thirteen when my dad was diagnosed with brain cancer and he died earlier this year. We thought he would live longer since the treatment was doing well but it just turned for the worst. After he passed my mom started drinking more and more. Then we found out about the pills she's been abusing. We had to bail my stupid brother out of jail for theft. My mom lost her job because she cursed out the boss while she was high on her pills. Then life just really came crashing down. We started going broke. We had to move to the 3 bedroom apartment we live in now. Sona, Migual, and I all had to get a job since my mother decided to just stay as depressed drunk and ever since life's just been rough.
"Make sure you do your homework" I told the twins as they ran off to their room.
My mother was passed out on the couch with a bottle of absolute vodka next to her. I grabbed a garbage bag and picked up the empty beer cans and trash off the floor, I hated for the twins to see her as she is. Knowing their mother was a good for nothing.
"Mom" I said tapping her. "Mom wake up."
She groaned and turned over.
"You've been in the same clothes for three days the least you can do around here is bathe."
"Don't fucking tell me what to do" she said while turning over again.
It doesn't even hurt to see her like this anymore. After a while you get tired of trying to help someone who doesn't care. Even worse when that person has two five year olds and couldn't even recall their birthdays anymore.
I went in the kitchen throwing the bag on the floor next to the garbage bin.
I got out the left overs from last night putting them on the stove to heat up.
"Hey baby brother" Miguel said while washing his hands of the car grease. His hair was cut short now and you could see the bags under his eyes.
"Hey" I replied.
"How was school?"
"Good."
"Great" he said while walking out the kitchen.
Miguel and I don't talk much. We can't stand each other. Him being ignorant and rude we just never got along much.
"Alex and Nicki come eat" I yelled while placing their spaghetti on the table.
Sona came home around ten, if anyone deserves credit for keeping us on track it's her. She has the exact personality my father had, kind and organized.
"Hey brownie" she said while kissing my cheek.
She took after my mother as well. Long curly hair and tan skin. " Hey sis" I said as I warmed up her food. I placed it on the table and she smiled as she sat down.
"Thanks I'm starving."
I sat in the chair opposite of her finishing my homework.
"How was school" she asked while taking a bite out of a meatball.
"Decent" I replied. "How was work?"
"Shitty" she answered.
"I have to go in early tomorrow, so can you drop the twins off at Becky's for me?"
"Sure."
Becky's a life savor. She watches the twins for free. I don't know why but she just does.
"Brownie."
Sona's called me brownie all my life due to my obsession with them as a kid.
"Yeah?"
She pulled out a letter a gave it to me. I looked at her then looked at the letter, then looked at her again.
"This isn't?"
"It is" she said.
I opened it and read the first words out loud.
"Dear Ms. Garcia, I would like to inform you that your screenplay was recently chosen" I couldn't even finish reading. "Oh my god Sona that's great" I yelled while getting up to hug her.
She hugged me back squeezing me harder.
"Baby brother" she started while holding my hand. " You did your part to provide for this family. Now it's my turn... I'm."
I cut her off. "No listen. If anyone has worked the hardest for us it's you. You can't just do this for us. You love this. You've literally always loved making film and now you've got your own one true shot. You have to do this for you."
She smiled and brushed a hand through my hair. "When did you get so great?"
"I've always been this great" I said laughing and hugging her one more time.
The next morning I got up early at around seven and got dressed putting on my best looking clothes, my name tag, and lanyard. I got a new job at a clothing store named Urban Outfitters. I've been working here for about two weeks and so far I've been getting good pay. Sixteen dollars an hour is great compared to my past crappy jobs. I stopped at Dunkin to get a coffee and made my way to the mall.
"Morning Raymen" Shelly said while touching my shoulder as she walked past.
"Morning" I replied.
Shelly was a blonde who worked with me. She's friendly but at times a little too friendly. Fine as hell but I don't pay much attention to her and I know it kills her.
"Guys pack out the new clothes that just came in, they're in the back" my boss yelled out.
With that I immediately got to work.
