Chapter 18 - Mixed Emotions

Hagrid's hut was lit up as the three friends made their way towards it. The Gamekeeper opened the door as soon as they had knocked, and had engulfed the three of them in a big, scatchy hug. Harry smiled up at the half-giant, laughing as Fang ran around barking hysterically.

"Hagrid, we've missed you!" Hermione said as she made her way inside the hut.

"Yeah, how come you didn't tell us you were leaving?" Ron asked, following after his girlfriend.

"It all came rather sudden to be honest with ya," Hagrid mumbled, looking close to tears.

"I take it they still haven't found Gwarp then," Harry mumbled, patting Hagrid gently on the back.

"The Ministry said they'd still look for him an' that they ain't given up 'ope yet, but I'm not sure if they will. You see Gwappy isn' like all the other giants. He's me brother an' it were my job to protect him," Hagrid sniffed. "I failed him!" he wailed, pulling a gigantic pink handkerchief from his pocket and wiped it across his hairy face. "Me own brother."

"They'll find him, Hagrid," Hermione said soothingly as she watched him thoughtfully.

"But what if they don't?" the half-giant replied.

"Then we'll find him," Harry piped up as both Hermione and Ron turned to stare at him in amazement.

"We will?" Hermione asked uncertainly as Hagrid eyes lit up at Harry.

"We will," Harry replied firmly.

Hagrid seemed to come to his senses and looked away quickly. "No, Harry, I can't let you do that. It's too dangerous!"

"I'm sure it won't come to that," Hermione pressed. "The Ministry will undoubtedly find him, I assure you. Percy told me that they're searching day and night."

"Why do you always talk to Percy?" Ron snapped, his ears turning pink.

"He's my friend, Ronald," Hermione replied, waving a dismissive hand at her boyfriend.

"He's a git," Ron mumbled quietly.

Harry made his way back towards the school: Hermione and Ron had headed straight back to the common room, whislt Harry had decided that he needed to clear his head. He was still annoyed at Malfoy for messing with his emotions like that and he wasn't quite sure that he was ready to see Ginny just yet. Ever since she had begged to be allowed back to Hogwarts - against the doctors wishes - she had been more clingy than ever and he had found it hard to have a moment alone.

He passed the library, not bothering to look inside, he didn't want any more awkward encounters with Malfoy anyway. So, he continued on his way until he reached the Room of Requirement, when just as he was about to walk past, the door opened and Dean and Ginny staggered out. Ginny was ensared in Dean's arms, pressed against his chest.

"Ginny?" Harry mumbled weakly, as although he didn't feel the same towards her anymore - the jealous rivalry between him and Dean angered him. He was hurt to see her in Dean's arms.

"Harry ..." Ginny whispered, tugging herself free from Dean's grasp. "It's not what it looks like, I swear."

Harry, who couldn't see properly through the tears that were threatening to escape his eyes, clenched his fists and turned sharply away. He strode off down the corridor, ignoring both Ginny and Dean's shouts after him. He was too annoyed and hurt to hear what either of them had to say. It was the last time that he was going to be messed with.

His emotions were in wrecks.

His thoughts were all distorted.

And he just wanted to curl up in a ball and cry.

But then at the same time he was angry.

He was angry that he had been betrayed by a friend and his girlfirend. He felt betrayed that Draco had made a fool out of him.

Deep down Harry knew that he had caused everything to happen. He was responsible for pushing Ginny away and into Dean's arms. He was the one that didn't love Ginny the same anymore. He'd even cheated on her with the person he was supposed to hate. So he shouldn't have be feeling angry at either of them. But they had made a fool out of him and he wasn't in the mood to think rationally.

As for Draco, Harry couldn't bear to think about him. He had made a complete and utter idiot out of Harry. He had messed with everything. Harry's brain was whirring at the constant thought of the Slytherin's touch. It was driving him insane. They were supposed to be enemies! That's how it had always been, but Draco just had to go and ruin it.

Eugh, everything was too complicated.

He had to escape.

~

Malfoy was on his way towards the broomstick shed when he saw Harry darting out from the building, clutching tightly onto his Firebolt.

"Oi, Potter!" Malfoy shouted, trying to get the Chosen One's attention. Harry, who although heard Malfoy's call, hopped onto his broomstick and took off.

Malfoy followed swiftly, grabbing his broomstick and soaring up into the air after Harry. Although Harry was more nimble on the broom, Draco managed to keep up ... just ... as they sped over the vast lakes towards the hills that surrounded Hogwarts.

Harry had once flown on Buckbeak in this very same area and he almost missed the strange sensation. Being on a broomstick didn't compare to flying with Buckbeak, but he had to admit it was certainly easier to fly.

"Potter, wait up!" Malfoy called, levelling with the Gryffindor.

"What do you want?" Harry fumed, not bothering to look at his Slytherin rival.

"Why are you acting all strange?"

"Stange?" Harry said angrily. "I'm not acting strangely."

"Have I done something?" Malfoy asked. "We were getting along fine the other day."

Harry blushed slightly, looking down at the water below him. "We're enemies, Malfoy. Let's just leave it at that."

"But what if I don't want to be enemies?" Malfoy challenged.

"It's better that way, we both know where we stand then."

Malfoy almost growled in frustration. "Why are you being like this?"

"Like what Malfoy?"

"All ... all stroppy!"

"Malfoy look out," Harry said gently as up ahead a giant oak tree stood standing at the very edge of the lake.

"Stop ignoring what I'm saying, Potter!" Malfoy snapped. "Did the kiss not mean anything to you?!" he pratically screamed.

"Malfoy..." Harry warned.

"Just answer me dammit!"

"MALFOY LOOK OUT!" Harry screamed, steering his broomstick towards Malfoy's dragging it out the way of the tree. Their brooms caught together and they both flew off, landing in a heap on the woodland floor. Harry, who had landed beneath Malfoy, groaned, glaring at the Slytherin. "Next time, just listen to me if I say look out."

Malfoy smirked, still resting on top of Harry.

"Get off," Harry grumbled, pushing Malfoy away.

Malfoy, however, wouldn't budge.

"Answer my question," Malfoy whispered, his head so close to Harry's that their lips were almost touching. "Now."

"That's a bit demanding," Harry mumbled, blushing violently. Only Malfoy could stir these emotions within him.

"You love it," Malfoy whispered as he lent down to kiss Harry gently on the jaw, his soft kisses trailing along the neckline.

Harry shivered, jerking slightly as Malfoy found a sensitive area just underneath Harry's ear and he let out a weak moan.

"Stop," Harry whispered, pushing Malfoy away. "You can't keep flitting between me and Pansy. It's not fair on either of us!"

He stood up, brushing himself down and picked up his broom. And for the second time that day, he disappeared away without giving Malfoy time to explain.

Malfoy stared after Harry, a lone tear rolling down his cheek.
