Above is what Human would look like. Isn't he adorable? God, I love dogs, they're my favorite animal. :)
My eyes snap open as my stomach growls loudly. I slept on Micah's couch last night since the weather only got worse. We stayed up talking for a while after we cleaned up from dinner, but then he went to bed after getting me situated on the couch. All throughout the night I would smell his shirt that I am wearing, it seriously smells like Marshmallow Mateys and Oreos.
I sit up on the couch, the blanket falling to my hips. Again, I have a mini panic attack thinking I have nothing on, but then I see my shorts are still on. I let out a relieved breath of air and stand up. Sometimes I sleep in the nude, so I wouldn't be surprised if I stripped during the night without knowing it.
I fold the blanket that I used and then set it neatly on top of the pillow before walking into the kitchen where I hear Micah and Human. Neither see me as I enter the kitchen, I smile as Micah fills a bowl full of wet dog food for the dog. Human's tongue lolls to the side of his mouth and jumps up and down for the food.
"Down, you silly thing," Micah warns him as he almost knocks the bowl out of his hand when he jumps up. "Fine, take it," He huffs out as he drops the bowl onto the paw print mat next to a fresh bowl of water. "Will you always act like a puppy or will you grow out of it?"
"How old is he?" I ask, I feel bad when Micah jumps and spins around to face me, holding his chest tightly.
"Shit, JJ, you scared me," He breathes out.
I bite my bottom lip. "Sorry, I didn't mean to," Honestly, I didn't mean to.
"Uhm," He looks down at Human who happily eats his food noisily. "He's one in a half,"
I nod my head, still a puppy then. "I really am sorry for scaring you, I didn't mean to," I apologize. "I'm surprised Human didn't look at me when I came in,"
Micah nods his head before snorting and looking back at the dog. "It's okay, I was in my own world, but for Human, he doesn't think or care about anything but food in the morning,"
I smile at the dog. "I feel ya', Human, breakfast is the most important meal of the day," Human doesn't even move his head from his food bowl, I know he is listening though.
Micah smiles at me before he moves to the fridge. "So, I was going shopping today, so I don't have much right now. I have some milk and cereal though,"
I perk up at his words. "I love milk and cereal,"
Micah raises a brow at me and I shrug. He chuckles and shakes his head before he opens a cupboard. That's when I notice he has no pantry, but the cupboard he opens has food inside it.
"I have Cheerios, Corn Flakes, and Marshmallow Mateys," Micah lists off as he looks inside the cupboard.
My eyes widen as my mouth starts to salivate. "You have Marshmallow Mateys?" I ask in a dreamy voice. Micah looks over his shoulder and laughs.
"You want some Marshmallow Mateys?"
I quickly nod my head. "Yes please," Micah laughs again as he pulls the bag down and then gets two bowls.
I help him by getting the milk out as he gets the spoons. Micah then pours the cereal into the bowls before putting the bag away. I pour the milk and then put it back just as Human whines at me and puts a paw on my thigh with pleading eyes. I raise a brow at the dog confused.
"What?" I ask confused.
Micah chuckles. "Do you have to go outside?" He asks the dog who spins in a circle and yips. "Okay, come on," He moves to the hallway before turning back to me. "I'll be right back,"
I nod with a smile and think 'hurry back'. Man, I love my mate. It was love at first sight and he just keeps getting better by the second. I move the two bowls and spoons to the table just as Micah walks back in and my phone rings in my pocket.
I pull my phone out and smirk at the Caller ID as Abram's name flashes across the screen. "I should take this, he probably thinks I'm dead,"
Micah nods and sits down at the table. I sit down as well because it's honestly not a private conversation anyway. Besides, this is my mate, whether Micah knows he is or not, I'm not going to keep things private from him.
"Good morning, Abram," I chuckle into the phone. "I am actually awake before noon; can you believe it?"
"Goddammit, Jonah, you're alive?" Abram asks annoyed over the phone.
"No, this is Jonah's ghost speaking," I say with a grin, Micah glances at me with his own smile that has my heart fluttering.
"I was worried sick about you! You never came home and your mom was freaking out. Do you have any idea what you put us through?"
I raise an eyebrow. "I thought you were supposed to go on a date last night, don't tell me you worried about me while you were fucking Trigg," I grimace and shiver at the images inside my head.
"You little shit," Abram growls. "You were to check the new person out and then report back, what happened to reporting back?"
"Well, you see, I would have come home, but the weather picked up like a bitch, and I made a friend and I couldn't leave him alone in this old house with such terrifying hail outside," Micah rolls his eyes as he eats his food, I only grin at him.
"Whatever, do you know if he is a Hunter, or is he really just a retired Marine?"
I snort and roll my own eyes this time. "Damn, Abram, that's a big question asked to early in the fucking morning. Ask me again when it's at least eleven,"
"Jonah, I gave you a job," Abram says annoyed.
"And I did it, but you're going to have to wait until after breakfast to get your answer,"
Abram growls over the line. "Jonah, so help me, I swear, I will go there and beat your ass to get the answer,"
I fake a gasp and hold my chest. "Abram, my ass is off limits to you, thank you very much,"
"Jonah Forrester!" He shouts angrily.
"Yes, Abram Woodson?" I ask with a cheeky grin.
"I swear to the moon goddess herself, I will beat your ass,"
I tsk and shake my head. "I don't think Trigg would appreciate you touching my ass, I know I wouldn't appreciate it,"
"Report back by noon, Jonah, or I will come after you,"
I roll my eyes again. "Yeah, yeah, someone didn't get his morning fuck,"
"Jo-," I cut him off by ending the call. Micah chuckles so I look at him.
"What?" I ask innocently.
"Do you always talk like that, or is just to him?" He questions.
I shrug my shoulders and pick up my spoon. "Mainly just to him, but sometimes I just don't care and let whatever slip out to whoever. Except my mom, mom doesn't deserve to be spoken to like that, so I have to hold my tongue when speaking to her,"
Micah nods his head with a small smile. We eat in silence after that, a comfortable silence that has me grinning. Until Human starts to bark outside and interrupts our peaceful silence. Micah sighs before getting up to let the dog inside. I smile and take both our empty bowls to the sink and quickly wash them.
"I could have done that," Micah says as he comes back into the kitchen.
I shrug and dry my hands off on the hand towel. "I could have too, so I did, besides, you let me stay the night and fed me, so think of it as my thanks,"
Micah rolls his eyes but smiles nonetheless. "Well thank you,"
"No, thank you," I grin. Human huffs and leaves the room, Micah only chuckles at the dog's reaction.
"So, listen, I have to go shopping today and I can't drive yet with my leg, so someone will be coming by to pick me up in about an hour,"
I shake my head. "Nope, I'll take you,"
"What?" He asks taken aback.
"I'll take you. I know the best places to shop for the best food, besides, friends help friends out,"
"They are already coming though," Micah tries.
"Then call and cancel, I refuse to let you go into the city with some stranger,"
"Aren't you a stranger?" He asks with a small smile.
I shake my head. "Nope, not anymore," I say with a grin. "You gave me a bloody nose, fed me, let me sleep on your couch, and then fed me again, you're practically my best friend already,"
Micah chuckles at my words. "Isn't Abram your best friend?"
I shrug my shoulders. "I can have more than one best friend; besides, he won't even notice since he has Trigg to occupy his time,"
Micah tilts his head to the side. "Do you not like this Trigg?"
"Nah, I like him just fine, it's just, Trigg turned out to be a bunny,"
"A bunny?" He asks with the most adorable confused face.
"Yeah, you know how rabbits are always fucking? That's how Trigg is. He always pulls Abram from his work to fuck him, I don't understand how either of them have that much stamina, but whatever. As long as Trigg keeps Abram busy the less work I have to do,"
"Why would that give you less work?" He asks with his head tilted adorably like a puppy.
"Oh, Abram is my boss," I inform. "And the less time he spends in the office, the less he can boss me around,"
"Your best friend is your boss?"
"Yep," I say as I pop the 'P'. "Although, don't get me wrong, Abram never gives me bad work to do, I'm just lazy and would rather sleep or eat,"
Micah chuckles with a smile as he nods his head. Then he rubs the back of his neck and chews his bottom lip, causing mini me to stir. "So, you really want to help me shop?"
"Of course," I say and move to the hallway, Micah following me. "Although, I have to ask if we can make a pit stop so I can change my clothes,"
"Sure," Micah says as he moves to the front door and slips shoes on, that's when I realize he is already changed.
He is dressed in a black shirt that says 'Marines' in red lettering, showing off all the colorful tattoos littering his sexy arms. He wears jeans that cover his prosthetic leg and I notice this leg is different than the one he had on yesterday. This leg is better shaped and has a wooden foot at the end so it can slide into his shoe without difficulty.
I shake my head and pull my own shoes on and wait patiently for him as I send a quick text to Abram that I am bringing a human by really quick. Once Micah is done he grabs a set of keys off a hook on the wall and then opens the front door. Human runs to us and pants happily, waiting for Micah to let him out.
"No, Human, you stay here," Micah tells the dog. Human huffs and nudges his good leg with his nose. "No, Human, you would just have to sit in the truck and it will get to hot for you, so no,"
Human whimpers and then nudges me in the leg. "Sorry, Human, Micah said no already," I say with a shrug.
Human whimpers again before sitting down on his haunches, watching us with sad eyes. Micah sighs and shakes his head before opening the front door.
"Sorry, Human, I'll take you out later," Micah says as I follow him out the door.
"Have you ever considered registering him as a service dog?" I ask as he locks the front door.
Micah shrugs as he turns around and leads me to the black four-door pickup. "I have, but he doesn't like people, he gets aggressive,"
I nod my head as he tosses me the keys. We get in and I practically drool at the interior. The seats are a black leather, the dash looks wood, a built-in GPS system and stereo system all in one. I bite my lip as I shut the door and start up the beauty. The truck practically purrs to life as Micah buckles his seatbelt.
"I could help you train him if you wanted. We could take him to a dog park and get him used to other dogs and people. Take him on walks in the city so he can get accustomed to the hustle and bustle,"
"Really? You would do that?" He asks as I buckle my own seatbelt and then back out of the gravel driveway.
"Yeah, why not? I saw the way you wanted to bring him with. If he becomes a service dog you can take him into stores and stuff. Then Human wouldn't have to sit at home alone and you wouldn't have to feel bad about leaving him," Plus, I would do anything for my mate to keep him happy, and if helping him with his dog will make him happy then I will do anything I can.
"That would be great, JJ, but I don't want you to go out of your way to help us, I'm sure I can do it on my own,"
I shake my head as I drive down the highway to the Pack House. "Nope, I already told you, I'm lazy, so Abram doesn't give me much work, so I pretty much just laze around all day. It would be good for me to actually wake up before noon every day and do something productive,"
"I'm not sure, you already have your own life so you don't need to help with mine,"
I snort and laugh. "Nonsense. I literally just told you I laze around all day, I have no life. Plus, mom would probably shit bricks if I did something before noon, so, I want to prove to her that I can be productive before noon,"
Micah chuckles as he shakes his head. "You really want to help?"
"Of course I want to help. I may be lazy, but that doesn't mean I can't do shit. Besides, again, friends help friends," I am also hoping to spend more time with this sexy human being and hopefully get him to love me.
Micah sighs. "Okay, fine, we'll do a trial run, if Human can go out into public by the end of next month, I will let you help us get him serviced,"
"Yes!" I cheer and pump my fist into the air, only to hit the roof with my fist. Micah chuckles at me and shakes his head.
"You are odd, JJ," He chuckles. I smile and hope that means he likes me.
We near the pack house only five minutes later, Micah's eyes widening at the size of the house. I park the truck outside the front and then turn the truck off.
"You wanna come in? I just have to talk to Mr. Pissy Pants and then change,"
Micah chuckles and nods his head. "You sure it's okay?" He asks with his hand on the handle.
"Of course, come on, maybe you can meet mom," I say and jump out of the truck. "Abram, we're here," I mind link to him.
"You brought the human you were supposed to check on?" Abram mind links back immediately.
"Yes," I link back as I lead Micah up the porch steps and then open the large front door. "He also happens to be my mate," I say with a grin.
"I'm on my way," He says quickly. I don't bother replying as I smile at Micah.
"So, this is the main part of the house, my apartment is on the fourth floor," I say as I nod to the giant set of stairs just a few feet away.
"It's huge," He comments as he glances around the foyer.
"Yeah, a lot of people live here too," He only nods his head, like this is normal that a bunch of families live under the same roof in the middle of the forest. Come to think of it, he doesn't look put off about this at all. Did the Marines really make him tough enough not to fear things, or at least to give him a great poker face?
"Jonah," Abram calls. I turn to see him walking down the hallway that leads to his office. "Good to see you in one piece.
I grin wide. "Abram, meet my new best friend Micah. Micah, my previous best friend, Abram," I introduce.
Abram smiles politely and sticks out his hand for Micah to shake. "Nice to meet you, Micah,"
Micah shakes his hand, his eyes flickering to me for a brief moment before looking back to Abram. "Nice to meet you too, Abram,"
"Thank you for taking care of Jonah last night, that weather was crazy," Abram says as they break the handshake. I don't miss the way Micah steps closer to me, and Abram didn't miss it either as he raises an eyebrow quickly before putting his gentleman face back on.
"It was no problem, that hail made it impossible to see," Micah says with his own gentleman face, only I like Micah's better than Abram's.
Abram nods and smiles at him before looking at me. "You better show yourself to your mother before you leave again, she was yelling at me most of the night," He says with an irritated grimace.
I smirk and cross my arms over my chest. "Aww, was mama a cockblock?" I snicker.
Abram takes a deep breath as he glares at me. "The whole night was a cockblock," He grumbles. "The rain didn't let us go on our date, you never came home, your mother kept yelling at me and barging in every twenty minutes, and you couldn't even call," He grumbles with a pout.
"Sorry, man, the rain was blocking the towers so I had no service. I swear, I tried to call," Then I narrow my eyes. "Why didn't you call?"
Abram rolls his eyes. "I did, I was about to send out a search party even,"
"And, why didn't you?" I press.
Abram looks away. "I got distracted," He mutters.
I snort and shake my head. "I see how it is, my safety isn't as important as ass, okay, best friend,"
Abram rolls his eyes this time. "For your information, I got no ass last night," He grumbles. "I told you, the entire night was a cockblock,"
I roll my eyes and tug on Micah's shirt sleeve. "Yeah, yeah, whatever," I say and lead Micah up the stairs.
"Good to see you alive, Jonah," Abram snorts as he calls up the stairs. "And I'm serious about showing your mother you're alive,"
I wave behind me without looking. "Yeah, yeah, I heard ya',"
Micah chuckles quietly so I throw a grin at him and then lead him to the fourth floor and into my apartment. The apartment is empty, which doesn't surprise me since mom is probably in the garden.
"You want a drink? I'm gonna take a five-minute shower,"
Micah shakes his head. "I'm fine, thanks,"
I shrug my shoulders and nod. "You can make yourself comfortable, I'll be super quick, promise,"
Micah nods his head and then sits down on one of the leather couches. I hand him the remote to the T.V and then head to my room where I take the world's fastest shower. My facial hair is longer than I like but I don't want to keep Micah waiting so I leave it alone and then hurry to pull on a pair of dark jeans and a tight red shirt with a yellow smiley face on it. I honestly don't know where I got this shirt, it just appeared in my closet one day.
Once I pull my shoes and clean socks on I leave my bedroom to find Micah leaning his head on the back of the couch with his eyes closed, the remote on the side table next to him. I smile and stop to stare at him. He looks very handsome like that and my hands itch to touch him as my lips twitch to kiss him.
"Sorry about the wait," I say as to not startle him like I did this morning. His eyes snap open and find me.
He shakes his head and stands up, tilting his head from side to side to crack his neck like Abram does. Great, that's annoying when Abram does it all hours of the day, please don't let this be a habit Micah has too.
"Ready?" I ask. He nods his head so I grin and head to the front door. "One last stop and then I swear we can get out of here. I just have to let my mom know I'm alive before Abram has a tantrum,"
"It's fine, I'm in no rush," He reassures. I grin and open the door to let him out. Maybe I can make the shopping trip a long one so I can spend even more time with him.
I lead Micah back down to the main floor but instead of going out the front door I take him to the back door and outside into the backyard. I spot mom immediately in garden just like I thought I would.
"Hey, ma," I call as me and Micah get closer to the garden. Mom looks up and smiles wide.
"Jonah, sweetheart, you about gave me a heart attack last night. With that storm last night, I was worried,"
I grin and shake my head. "No worries, Micah took good care of me,"
Mom moves her attention to Micah. "Hello, dear, I am Sabrina, this child's mother,"
I scoff at the mention of me being a child. I may be a child, but only I get to call myself a child. Unless Micah wants to call me a child, then maybe I would be okay with him saying it.
"Hello, Sabrina, I am Micah," Micah says with a handsome smile. I internally sigh at how amazing my mate is.
"You housed my son last night during the storm?" Mom asks with a smile.
"Yes, ma'am," Micah says with a nod. "It was the least I could do after I threw my leg at him and almost broke his nose, on accident," He adds the ending quickly and chuckles nervously.
"Oh dear, what?" Mom asks as she glances at me.
I roll my eyes. "He did not almost break my nose, it just bled a little,"
Micah snorts. "It wouldn't have bled so much if it didn't get hit so hard. I almost broke it, JJ,"
I roll my eyes as mom hums. "I'm sorry, but did you say leg?"
Micah smiles at her as he lifts his right pant leg to show his prosthetic. "Yeah, my leg,"
"Oh, you poor thing," Mom pouts before she snaps her attention to me. "Did you upset him with one of your jokes?"
My jaw drops as I scoff. "No," I grumble. "I was just in the area at a bad time,"
"Yeah, I got angry at myself and threw it when he happened to be walking by," Micah chuckles awkwardly. Aww, he's so cute! "It was a complete accident and I swear I didn't know he was there,"
Mom tsk's as she shakes her head. "That's Jonah for you, being in the wrong place at the wrong time,"
I roll my eyes again. "Okay, well I'm going to show Micah the best places to grocery shop, so I'll see you later, ma," I say and pull Micah away.
"Have fun boys, and be good, Jonah!"
"Ma, I'm a grown man!" I call back annoyed. "Geesh, she acts like I'm a child still," I grumble as I lead Micah back through the house and out the front door since it is quicker than walking all the way around the house.
"I like your mom," Micah chuckles as we get back in the truck. "She reminds me of my own mother,"
I grin happily at his words. Good, the more he likes my mother the more I can invite him over, leading to him liking me more, and then we can get to the good part of kissing and touching and hugging and loving each other.

July 4, 2017
Two chapters in one day because it is a holiday here in the US. :)
I love Jonah, he's so cute.
Also, I think I figured out my copy and paste issue. If I copy only a portion and paste it onto Wattpad it doesn't cut anything out. It's not as fast as copying the entire chapter at once, but at least nothing got cut out this time.
