Surprise Encounters
Cassandra
“Cassy, honey, would you mind going with Marcie to the confectioner’s?” Martina
asked, I gasped. What the hell happened to her? Naina silently asked me. I shook my
head in misery, cause unknown.
“Uh, yeah, sure.” I said awkwardly, she beamed at me.
She freaking BEAMED!
I was still going crazy with my internal monologue, so Naina came to my rescue.
“I’ll come too!” she chirped enthusiastically. Martina’s smile wavered but she
managed to hold it in place. Ah! I know exactly what’s going on.
“Sure, the more the merrier. Right, Martina?” I chimed before she could open her
mouth. She looked calm and happy but I was acutely aware of the rage brewing on
the inside. I smiled inwardly.
“Of course.” She almost gritted out. Naina and I secretly snickered. Trying to hold
onto her last piece of dignity, she turned around in a way she thought she was being
highty-mighty, but she turned with so much force and she ended losing her balance
and fell flat in her ever-so-big-butt. God, my resolve flattered and the laughs that I
had taken pains to conceal came out in a tidal wave. Everyone laughed while
Martina sat there on the floor, red with rage.
“Oh god, this is like so awesome!” Marcie exclaimed, looking at the cake in awe.
Naina and I shared a look of disgust. “See, oh how good we look together!” she
screeched, just like she had been doing for the past hour. We simply smiled and
nodded. I grimaced. Tell me again, why did we agree to this? Naina asked furiously.
Sorry, I cringed. She simply raised an eyebrow, I looked at her in remorse. Marcie
shrieked again at god knows what. Standing all this time, my feet were starting to
hurt a little.
“Marcie, why don’t you look though the things while Sims and I explore?” I made
an excuse so as to not make her suspicious. She simply waved at me. I scowled but
got out of there quickly.
“What was that?” Naina asked when we were at a safe distance.
“My feet hurt.” I grimaced.
“You shouldn’t have worn those shoes.” She quipped.
“I know, but she was practically dancing on my head for them. I wore them just to
ward her off.” I grimaced, she looked at me with sympathy before pulling out the
nearest chair. I gave her a grateful glance and sank into it. “So, did you like any
cake?” I teased Naina.
“Why do you ask?” she asked, looking at me with suspicion.
“No, just that your next in line. I mean with the whole thing with Santiago…..” I
trailed off with a sly smile.
“Yeah right.” She scoffed. “My parents will have a fit if they ever come to know
about him.” She shuddered, picturing their first meet
“I’m pretty sure your dad will have a seizure, and your mom is a different story
altogether.” I teased, but all amusement faded away when the pain in my feet made
itself known. Taking care, I took the god awful sandals of my feet. An ugly, red gash
already making it’s appearance. The sides of my feet slightly scraped from the
constant grinding with the rough material.
“Thank god Salvatore's not here, or he’ll have my head.” Naina muttered.
“Who told you to apply in the first place?” I asked in irritation.
“No one, but damn, Santiago has some serious persuasion skills.” She smiled with
a dreamy look on her face.
“Ew!” I covered my ears. “Too much information.” I said, making a face at her.
“Well, whatever. I’m still good at my job.” She shrugged.
“Apparently not.” A smooth yet angry voice responded from behind us. Naina
whirled around, only to confirm my suspicion.
“Salvatore! What are you doing here?” Naina asked innocently. I narrowed my
eyes at him. He gave Naina a pointed look who scurried over to Santiago just as he
stepped into my line of vision.
“How’s it going, sis?” Santiago asked with a mischievous glint. It seemed that
Santiago had taken the charge of making me feel welcome, calling me sis and all.
“Never better.” I smiled at him, he beamed back. Then he moved forward and
lightly clasped Salvatore's shoulders.
“Take it easy.” He murmured in a low voice, but I heard him loud and clear.
Salvatore nodded, his eyes never leaving me. I looked at Santiago and mouthed a
‘thank you’. He winked in return, then took Naina in his arms. I looked away,
straight into Salvatore's eyes. He slowly moved towards me.
“I’m starting to think your some kind of a disaster magnet.” He muttered as he
kneeled down in front of me, holding my foot up for inspection. I gasped and tried to
pull my foot back but he was having none of it for he simply held it tighter.
“Salvatore!” I furiously whispered, looking around for signs of Marcie. “Marcie’s
here!” I tried to snatch my foot back, he simply tightened his grip. I winced at the
pain that shot through my leg at his grip, he immediately loosened it, looking
pained.
“I’m sorry….” He started but I stopped him by putting my hand on his lips. Then, I
weaved my hands through his hair, moving them in a circular motion. He closed his
eyes, his shoulders relaxing.
“It’s alright.” I said softly. He opened his eyes, looking at me with newfound
determination.
“You’re coming home with me.” he said softly, waiting for my reaction.
“Salvatore, I can’t.” I repeated for what seemed like the umpteenth time.
“No, I’m not leaving you like this…” he started but I simply leaned down and
kissed his lips, effectively shutting him.
“Yes, you can.” I murmured in a husky voice, pulling my lips from his.
“Aren’t you afraid of being seen?” he said, raising an eyebrow at me. I blushed,
but pulled myself back, away from him.
“You should go.” I looked away from him, knowing that if I so much as risked a
glance at him, I would be a goner.
“And leave you like this? Sorry, can’t do.” He replied sarcastically. I looked back
at him, my eyes narrowing.
“What are you doing here, anyway?” I almost gritted my teeth. “Are you following
me?” I accused him. He held up his hands in surrender. I took this opportunity to
remove my foot from his lap. I set it down, wincing at the pain it caused. He blew a
frustrated breath. “Well?” I asked again, trying to deviate his attention from my foot
for I knew he was minutes away from scolding me for it.
“No Cassandra, I’m not spying at you.” He bit out. I merely gave him a look that
said ‘please-explain’. “Santiago and I were in the area, looking at a property when
we saw you and Naina on you expedition with… with that girl.” He waved his hand,
something he does when he’s frustrated.
“Marcie.” I corrected, internally happy that he didn’t even remember her name.
“Huh?” he looked up at me, confused.
“That girl….. she’s Marcie.” I explained. He waved his hand again, dismissing the
topic. Had someone else done that with me, I would’ve bitten their head off, but with
Salvatore, I find it cute than offensive. I shook my ever-so-wandering head. “Alright,
sorry…” but my apology was cut short with my phone suddenly ringing. I held up my
finger at him, he nodded and straightened. It was Naina.
“Naina?” I asked, confused.
“Hurry, code red!” she all but shouted. My eyes went wide as I suddenly stood up.
In my haste, I had forgotten all about the pain in my foot.
“Ow!” I almost shouted, wobbling. Thanking god this was a secluded area, I tried
to keep my balance. Salvatore was quick by my side, steading me and placing me
back in the chair I had just stood from. Snapping my phone shut, I looked at him in
alarm.
“You have to go!” I whispered furiously. “Marcie’s coming!” I said, trying to shoo
him away from me.
“To hell with her.” He said in his normal tone, adamantly sitting in his chair. “I’m
not leaving you.” I sighed in frustration, knowing there was no way around him. So I
stoop up, wincing but kept my mouth shut. “Where do you think you’re going?” he
asked in a deadly voice as his hand clamped down on my wrist with a grip of iron.
“Away from here!” I whispered furiously, trying to free my hand from his.
“You go Cassandra and I swear to god I’ll tell her myself.” I froze and turned to
look at him, hurt clear in my eyes.
“Why do you keep threatening me?” I whispered brokenly. His face morphed into
a stricken expression.
“Because threats are all I have to keep you with me.” he whispered back. I felt my
heart lurch at his words. We heard approaching footsteps. Salvatore dropped my
hand, but I couldn’t bring myself to look away from him.
“Cassy! Where were you…… oh!” I heard Marcie’s screechy voice from behind me.
it was enough to bring me back to the reality. “Hello Salvatore!” she said coyly. I
turned around just in time to see her bat her lashed at him, trying to appear flirty
but it simply looked like she had gotten something in her eye. Feeling anger bubble
up inside of me, filling the void, I snapped.
“Is something wrong with your eye?” I asked sweetly. She narrowed her eyes at
me. then, as if she remembered something, she smiled her famous evil smile.
“No, nothing.” She said, dismissing me without a glance. “So, Salvatore, what are
you doing here?” she turned towards him, completely ignoring me. “I was just
passing by, saw you entering the shop, thought I might stop by.” He said casually.
“I’m glad I came here, for you sister hurt her foot.” Salvatore, surprising both
Marcie and me, slid his hand around my waist and supported my weight. “Come one.
I’ll drop you home.” He said lowly.
“Oh, she came with me!” Marcie was quick to interrupt, her eyes narrowed at his
hand on my waist. But Salvatore simply waved his hand at her.
“That’s alright. I’m finished. Besides, you have a wedding in like what, two days,
so you might be having work to do. Don’t let me interrupt you.” He said smoothly,
helping me get out of there as Marcie simply stared at us, gasping like a fish. But as
we passed her, I saw her glaring at me with a look I had come to recognize.
She’s planning something.
