Lucy's POV
I stared out my window thinking about what I'd just said to Mateo. He wanted kids. That was reassuring a little. I mean I'll admit watching Michael take Laura to all her doctors appointments and baby shopping made me crave what they had. I don't know why maybe it has to do with Nico leaving.
He was like my little son. Me and Mateo were like parents to him, I mean of course so were Laura and Michael but Nico always followed Mateo around and I'm always with Mateo so he grew on me. I mean after eight months how could he not ?
It started to feel as if he belonged with us that I forgot he would eventually leave us whenever his mother came for him.
I just—a loud horn sounded and I was thrown forward in the car. My head smacked the dashboard and my vision went blurry then black.

Mateo's POV
Oh my fucking god. This is bad. I paced the hallway of small hospital. After the accident me and Lucy were rushed to the emergency room. I sustained little to no injury but Lucy wasn't wearing her seatbelt. She got knocked unconscious.
The doctors told me it wasn't as bad as it looked but that didn't help me. My girlfriend just sustained a head injury and possible concussion because I wasn't paying attention.
" Sir. " The doctor came over reading off his clipboard. He looked up at me.
" Uhhh Ms. Mathews has had a concussion but she is waking now you may go in but—" I pushed passed him and walked in her room. There was my girl sitting up in a hospital bed with a thick white bandage wrapped around her head. I rushed over to her and kneeled by her bed.
" Oh god Lucy...I am sorry. This is my fault I should've been paying attention and I—"
" Who are you ? " She interrupted and I looked up at her face and saw her eyebrows furrowed and her head tilted slightly in confusion.
" W-what ? " I mumbled abruptly standing.
" Yes, Mr. D'amico I was trying to tell you that Lucy has sustained some memory loss. She remembers her name and things about herself but other that she doesn't remember. This may be short term lasting only a week or two or it may be long term lasting months to years. You can take her home once she signs these papers. " He informed me but my mouth was still stuck in an O. I couldn't believe she didn't know who I was.
" You really don't know who I am ? " I asked her coming closer to the bed.
" No I am sorry sir. " She answered sadly and signed the doctors papers.
" I am your boyfriend Mateo ? Mateo D'amico. " I tried and she just stared back at me.
" I wish I could remember I'm so sorry Mateo. " She sniffled tears watering in her eyes.
" No no no don't cry bambina. It's alright I'm going to get you home and we will figure this out. " I rushed over to hug her. She returned it stiffly.
" Mr. D'amico there is a Mr. De'Luca here to pick you two up. " The doctor informed me and I nodded not taking my eyes off of Lucy.
" Who is Mr. De'Luca ? " She asked quietly.
" My brother well half brother—it's a long story. " I told her helping her off the bed all her movements were stiff and not warm like I was a stranger.
" Mateo are you alright ? How's Lucy ? " Michael asked followed by a very pregnant Laura who rushed to give Lucy a hug.
" Who are you and why are you touching me ? " She pushed Laura back slightly.
" W-what ? What do you mean ? I'm your sister Laura. " Laura stared hurt in her eyes.
" Guys she has a little memory lost but it may be temporary or long term we don't know yet. " I mumbled to them ashamed I'd caused this.
" Well this is going to be a little weird ? " Michael blew out a breath. " We have so much on our plate she needs to remember. This isn't good. "
" I know that Michael it was an accident and she wasn't wearing her seatbelt. I should have paid more attention and realized that. " I palmed my face.
" Well let's get her home. " Laura said her arms crossed still examining Lucy who looked at her strangely.
" Yeah that sounds like a good idea. " Michael quipped following after her.
" How long have we lived here ? And where is it that we live ? " Lucy asked as I opened the doors for her.
" Uhh we actually just got here today and this the united-states of America and we are in Wisconsin. " She blinked at me as we walked to Michaels car.
" Why did we just move here ? "
" It's a really long story I'm sure your not going to like at all fiorella. " I mumbled shaking my head.
" My name is Lucy. Who is this fiorella you keep saying. Is that a nickname or something ? " We both got in the backseat and I watched her put on her seat belt this time.
" Uhh not really it's just a term of endearment like honey or baby. It's Italian and it means little flower, it has lots of meanings actually. " I glanced at her and she was hanging onto my every word.
" Where's the rest of my family Laura ? Do we have any other family ? " Lucy asked and Laura twisted in her seat up front to look at her.
" Uhhh no no we don't it's just us Lucy. " She said and gave me a look that said don't say anything. I wasn't going to though I don't think Lucy needs to remember he abusive parents. That may be the only good thing that comes from this.
After that Lucy sat back silently looking out her window as we drove nearly forty miles back to the house. I turned and looked out my own window. The day has really turned around, first my dad agrees to help us then I get in a car accident and my girlfriend gets memory loss.
I'm about ready to collapse in my bed right now. I steal a glance at Lucy and notice she's asleep her body leaning completely to the other side of the car.
She's got to get her memory back. We've been through too much to explain.
We pulled up to the house this time two different guards stood outside the house. I went around to Lucy's side and opened the door. I grabbed her up in my arms as she was fast asleep I think they might've been the pain medicine. She instantly curled into me like she usually does when I put her to bed.
It's like even though her mind forgot her body did not. It's almost innate.
I carefully and quietly put her in the room beside the one that we were suppose to share. I'll sleep there and she'll sleep here ok sure she's going to be too uncomfortable to sleep in the sane bed with someone she doesn't remember.
I tucked her all in and closed the door gently. I went downstairs to find Michael cooking something on the stove.
" How is she ? " He asked without turning around. I sighed and sat at the counter.
" She's still asleep. Michael I've never fucked up this bad before. Like I don't think she even knows how bad this is. " I rubbed my temples as he turned around.
" Well brother, I can't say I feel you on this one but I understand what you must be going through. The woman your madly in love with doesn't have have clue who you are. " He sympathized.
" I just hope she remembers sooner or later cause there is so much that I would have to explain to her, so much that I don't want to explain to her. Like I could spare her of everything that's going on, spare her of her nightmares but then she wouldn't understand the danger she's in and if she remembers she's going to be angry that I lied in the first place. " I exasperated going to the fridge and pulling out a water.
" I had my men stock the fridge while you were gone. I'm making some pasta if your hungry. " He changed the subject looking back at what he was stirring. Well there's the average Michael always avoiding sensitive situations.
" I'm good Mike, this must be for Laura. "
" Yeah she had a craving for for some of my home made pasta, she did that little pout thing and next thing I'm stirring pasta. " He chuckled, his eyes rolling.
" Lucy does–well I guess she still does the same thing. One little pout and we are falling like spineless little boys. " I smiled at him as a memory of Lucy pouting just earlier today came into my mind.
" Yeah yeah yeah, Lucy's the one who taught her that, she didn't do that at first. She was just a whiner then next thing I know she's got this puppy dog pout on those pink lips and brother it drives me crazy. " He admitted while letting out a soft laugh.
" Me too brother me too. " I muttered grabbing another water and walking back upstairs to Lucy's room.
I peeked inside to see she was still sleeping. Well I'll just leave the water on the nightstand so when she wakes she's not so thirsty. I quietly walked in the room placing the bottle of water on the nightstand.
I couldn't help myself, I leaned down and kissed Lucy's head gently. Her eyes popped open like saucers and stared into mine for what seemed like a full minute.
" Mateo...I remember. " She whispered sitting up slowly. I say on the bed looking at her, my heart pounding.
" We–I am on the run from Roco Santana...and you are my boss and boyfriend ? It's still blurry but it's coming back. " She bit her lip looking at me.
" It's okay bambina don't stress over it. " I told her grabbing her chin as I did so I could look her fully in her eyes.
" I love you..." She kissed me hard, pushing me back slightly.
" I love you too Lucy. " I pulled away, I didn't want it to get too heated with her memory still not fully there.
" I was so worried about you and I'm so sorry this was my fault and it won't happen again. " I told her my voice pleading for forgiveness.
" Mateo it is my fault I was so hurt I didn't wear my seatbelt. Don't blame yourself besides my memory is coming back as we speak. " She gave me a small smile.
" You promised me something earlier today. " She batted her eyes. She's such a horn ball, and I love it. I couldn't even hold my laugh in.
" What's so funny ! " She pouted.
" You've just been in an accident and sustained memory loss but you remember me promising you sex ? " I laughed and she grumbled.
I pulled her to me so she sat in my lap. " Awwe don't pout baby. You know I always fulfill my promises. " I whispered and bit her ear.
" Well let's see if I remember what I wanted to do to you. " She purred and my breath caught in my throat as she grabbed me through my pants.
Maybe this day isn't so bad.
