Chapter 30 - You're in Danger
-Maggie's POV-
I walked thought the halls with my books clutched to my chest. I smiled at a few people I had class with but people didn't really talk to me. It's like they were slightly scared. I really don't know why though. It's not like I done anything bad. Yet. Maybe it's my hair. I smiled to myself as I moved into my legal studies classroom. I took a seat in the back and waited for the teacher to arrive. Mrs. Upjohn walked in and moved to the front of the class. The rest of the students filed in and I sat back, ready to learn. Tyson fell into a seat next to me and I sent him a small smile. Five minutes in, the door banged open. A guy with black hair and brilliant blue eyes sauntered in. He handed something to the teacher before he turned to face the class, his face set in a cocky smirk, until his eyes met mine. His face widened into a shit eating grin. I smirked at him in return.
"Alright, ladies and germs. This is Alex Myers. Another transfer from Blackwood." She sighed the last sentence and I shook my head smiling.
"Alright Alex. Take a seat." Mrs Upjohn said as she gestured to the class. Alex smirked at as he made his way down the aisle. I rolled my eyes as he softly punched my arm and sank into the chair behind me.
"Hey Stranger." He said so everyone could hear as he passed me.
"Hey Stranger." I replied with a smile and caught a few people giving me strange looks. I ignored them and focused back on Mrs. Upjohn. The lesson finally ended and as soon as there was room I jumped on Alex. He chuckled as his arms wrapped around my waist in a hug.
"I missed you. I miss the guys." I said as he put me down. He just smiled at me and kissed my head in a very brotherly manner.
"As far as I know they all miss you too. I did as well." He said as we grabbed our stuff and headed for the door. We met up with Lilli and Cade and I introduced them. Lilli seemed quite taken with him and I held back a knowing smile.
"Is Justin here as well?" I asked as we stopped off at my locker. I glanced back and saw Alex opening the locker next to mine.
"He told me he was gonna start the same day as me but I haven't seen him today." He answered and I nodded as I closed the door. I heard running feet and turned just in time to see Max jump at me. I stumbled back into Alex and felt his hand on my back, stopping me from hitting the floor.
"Max! Since when were you so immature?" I asked as I pretty much dropped him.
"Since I spent the last seven years asleep." He answered simply as he straightened up. Guilt and pain blossomed in my chest. I felt something constrict around my heart.
"Shit! Maggie? I didn't mean it like that. It's not your fault." I felt Max's arms around me as I tried to push the bad feelings away.
"I'm so sorry Maxie." I whispered. I looked up to find Max had dragged me into an empty classroom. Ryder was the only other person in here. Ryder moved from the door and wrap his arms around me. I felt him kiss my head as my eyes teared up and I looked at Max.
"It's not your fault Mags." Max whispered in my ear and I shook my head.
"Give us a minute, could you?" Ryder's strong voice was deep and I felt safe. I vaguely heard Max leave after he kissed my forehead. My eyes slipped shut as Ryder pulled me to the ground. He leant against a wall then pulled me into his lap so I was straddling his hips.
"You are great Maggie. You have great friends. You have a good life. Don't slip into the past." Ryder's hand cupped my chin, making me look at him while he spoke. Then he leant forwards and his lips met mine. Tingles exploded over my skin as his hand moved to the back of my neck. He pulled back a second later and rested his forehead against mine. We just sat there for a few moments. I sat there on his lap with him between my legs, our breath mixing as we breathed. My hands rested against his chest and lightly gripped his shirt. I just sat there breathing him in with my eyes closed.
The shrill sound of the bell and the thundering of footsteps were the sounds that finally pulled Ryder and I from our little bubble of quiet.
"Come on. Days almost over." Ryder whispered as he wrapped his arms around me and stood up. I wrapped my legs around his waist, my arms around his neck and buried my face in his shoulder. Another thirty seconds I spent glued to him before I sighed and released him from my clutches. I slid to the ground and Ryder quickly pressed his lips to mine before he gripped my hand and led me out of the room. First he dragged me to my locker before he escorted me towards my last class before lunch, business. I'd missed my second class of the day. I sank into my normal seat as the teacher walked in and started the class.
Less than five minutes later a guy with dark hair and dark eyes walked through the door. I couldn't stop the smile that spread through my face. Then, without any thought to my class, I jumped up and ran straight for Justin. He saw me coming and dropped his books to catch me when I jumped on him. I'd missed him so much. He reminded me if an older brother and that's what our relationship was like.
"You okay Mag?" I heard him whisper and I nodded into his neck. Someone cleared their throat and I reluctantly pulled myself from Justin's hold. Instead of blushing and walking embarrassed back to my seat, like a normal person, I rolled my eyes, held my head high and strutted back to my seat. Ten minutes later we were all settled in and Justin sat in the seat clear across the room from me.
I could not wait for the day to be over.
-Mole's POV-
I sat and watched my target as she socialised and laughed with the people surrounding her. I was one of those people. I laughed when appropriate and added to the conversation when needed. I have to admit, she seemed nice to me, if a little cocky. Even then it was only when 'outsiders' were looking in. For the time I'd spent with Magdalyn Black she seemed nothing but pleasant. Nice even. I had no idea what the boss man wanted her for. Well, that's not true. He wanted her body and to break her. But that was all pretty obvious. Besides his lust after her body I had no idea about what he wanted from or with her.
"You okay?" I turned and nodded at Alex's question. He acted nice. So did Justin. I knew they had to have a bad side for them to land in Blackwood but I was still trying to figure out what they did. Ryder was easier to find out about.
He set his school on fire. Elementary arson right there. What made it almost jump from arson to manslaughter, was the fact that there was a large population of the school still inside when it went up. Lucky for Ryder, no one was hurt so he got off with an arson charge and confinement to Blackwood. Along with his twin Ryan because you can never be too sure.
I'd looked deeper into her little group and found a lot were sent there for the same sort of things. Arson, GBH, petty theft, major theft. From the cases I'd study, some of her friends were quite skilled in their area of mischief and mayhem. Not that I would every tell anyone I knew. That would blow my cover. I sank back into the conversation as my mind jotted everything down. It wasn't like I liked spying on my friends but it's not like I had a choice. The boss man had leverage over me and I'd do anything to get that leverage back.
"Maggie!" My mind flicked back to the present when I heard that yell. I almost thought the boss man had made a move. The room doors banged open and a young man walked through them. I'd seen him before. His brown hair was sticking up in every direction. He worked for the boss man. His dull green eyes glided over the room. They widened as they landed on me and he almost stumbled as he moved towards the group. Looks like he didn't know I was part of her group. I shook my head slightly. He was the one who gave me this placement. Maybe the boss man was making his move.
"Magdalyn?" He asked as he moved his eyes from me and placed them on Maggie.
"Derek? What the hell are you doing here?" Her voice was hostile and slightly annoyed but shocked as well.
"I need to talk to you." Derek said seriously. I didn't miss the small glance he threw at me. I ignored him and concentrated on Maggie as a thoughtful expression took over her face.
"Why now?" She said softly as she moved closer to him. His eyes watched her carefully before they flicked to Max. His eyes widened.
"Max." His voice was barely a whisper. I watched as Max looked towards Maggie and she nodded, answering his unasked question.
"Hey." Max sounded choked up and Derek just looked stunned. I heard Maggie sigh before she stood. She grabbed Max and Derek before pulling them out of the room. I looked to the others. They just sat there shocked at the twins abrupt exit.
My curiosity spiked when they didn't return to the room. Not even when the bell rang to go to class.
-Maggie's POV-
I dragged Derek and Max into an empty room.
"I can't believe you're awake." I heard Derek mumble as his eyes ran over Max.
"You've changed." Max stated as his hands were shoved into the pockets of his pants.
"I visited." Derek said softly. I saw something flash through his eyes.
"What do you want Derek?" I said, my voice coming out harsh and slightly hostile. Derek's green eyes turned to me. It was a trait we all shared. Green eyes and blonde hair. Derek's was a darker blonde but he died it a few years ago. His hair was now a dark brown colour.
"Do you have to look at me like that?" Derek asked and his eyes softened as they held mine. They looked sad. Hurt almost.
"Did you have to cut me out of your life and act like I was the scum of the earth for the last seven and a half years?" I asked as I stood with my arms crossed over my chest defensively. I saw him flinch and even caught Max's astonished look but promptly ignored it.
"Maggie," Derek's voice sounded tired.
"No Derek! I needed you! I needed my older brother! and you weren't there!" I screamed as I felt the tears sting the back of my eyes. I turned away from them both and clenched my mouth shut so the sobs wouldn't leave. Two strong arms wrapped around me before they turned me and pulled me into a muscled chest. I could tell it wasn't Max. The chest was too developed, to muscular. Without thought to my feelings towards him at the moment, I wrapped my arms around him and clutched at the back of his shirt, pushing my face into his chest. I welcomed the comfort he was offering.
"I'm so sorry Maggie. But I had to. You'll understand one day but not today. Just know I didn't want to leave you or push you away." His deep voice whispered in my ear and I felt my heart clench at his soft, loving words.
"You left me." I whispered out, my voice getting scratchy.
"I had to. I'll tell you one day. I promise." Derek whispered into my hair. Max just stood beside us quietly, waiting for our, okay, my, emotional roller costed to end. A few minutes later I pulled away. I wiped at my face and focused on Derek.
"I'm sure you didn't just drop by to reconcile after years of not talking." I said a little too harshly, even for my liking. Derek's face grew serious and worried.
"You're in danger."
