You were sitting against a wall of the new Aogiri structure, where Ayato had placed you down. You were waiting for someone, anyone, who could bring you some human flesh, so your ankles could heal.
Finally you heard footsteps, and, to your relief, it wasn't Ayato but Kaneki. He was holding some corpse of some dead ghoul investigator, who probably had died in the battle of the 11th ward.
Sighing, you thanked him and started eating. Immediately you felt better, and you even felt like after a while you could be able to walk again.
When you finished, you wiped your mouth and looked up.
Kaneki was just looking out of the broken window with an expressionless stare. You tried to stand up, supporting your weight with the wall, and slowly you made your way beside Kaneki, looking you also out, gazing at the night sky.
"Hey, Kane-kun..." you whispered.
He just turned his head to look at you, without giving a proper answer like 'yes?' or something, which disappointed you a little.
You opened your mouth, but someone cut you off.
"Brat. I'll show you your room"
You turned around and saw Ayato, his usual scowl on his face. You frowned.
"Oh? Why has it to be you?" you stubbornly asked.
His eyes became black and red.
"Sorry, who was the person who helped you all the way here?" he replied.
"Tch"
He surpassed you, hitting your shoulder in the process, but you decided that you were too weak to fight.
"Talk to you later" you said to Kaneki.
Then you just followed Ayato.
The walk was filled with silence, and finally Ayato opened a door.
"Here" he said, and then he walked off.
You stepped in the room. Obviously, like in the rest of the building, the windows were broken. The room wasn't that big, but it was almost empty, apart from an old looking bed, which had no sheets.
You sighed and sat on the bed, lying down.
I'm again with Aogiri... Again with him...
You still felt kind of sick, thinking about your last fight with Ayato, but you also felt like something had changed between the two of you.
After the events and the talks in that alleyway, and when he had offered you a piggy back ride, you felt kinda weird.
All those kind gestures from him lately, you couldn't decide if they were just for Aogiri or for something else.
And then there was Kaneki.
You closed your eyes, and an image of the old Kaneki popped up.
His black, straight hair and his kind grey eyes, avoiding eye contact, while he was smiling kindly, blushing and scratching his cheek, an habit of him.
Now this is just a memory.
You thought.
In fact, that image was soon replaced by another one. It was still Kaneki, but he had white, slightly messy hair, emotionless grey eyes, and he was cracking his index finger.
You lightly shook your head. You were feeling so many emotions like now...
You felt like you wanted to talk about it with someone, but your first choice would have been Kaneki.
And now this wasn't possible anymore.
"Maybe we could meet and talk about books, when we are alone..."
He had said, on that night.
And now this wasn't possible anymore.
Then you remembered that you wanted to talk to him about his decisions, so you stood up and left your room.
You started looking for him, and guess who you found?
Eto.
"Hey, (f/n)~~~" she sang and giggled.
"Tch, what the hell do you want" you said.
She tilted her head to the side, and even if you couldn't see her expression, you could feel she was pouting.
"Aww, how rude..." she said.
"Where is Kaneki?" you asked, getting straight to the point. You just couldn't stand being with Eto.
"Mou, and I was hoping to chat with (f/n)..." she whined, but then she indicated you the room.
You knocked at the door, and a quiet 'come in' was heard.
You slowly made your way in his room. It was huge, confronted to yours, and it was empty apart from a black table. There was no bed in the room.
You sat on the table, facing him.
He had no longer that curious look in his eyes, he no longer blushed from the closeness, he no longer was the same Kaneki you knew.
"What did you want to talk about?"
Each word felt like an arrow shot in your heart. There wasn't any emotion in those, no interest. But you smiled anyway.
"When did you suddenly decide to join Aogiri?" you asked.
"I think when saw Yamori trying to torture you. I understood that I needed to get stronger to protect the people I care about. But I didn't think you'd came back with them" he calmly said.
"Haha, yep" you said nervously.
Then Kaneki looked at you straight in the eyes.
"Why did you not tell me that it was Ayato Kirishima who bothered you?" he asked.
"Well I didn't want you to ask Touka about that, because I know that they're not in good terms"
He just nodded.
"Kaneki" you said, looking down.
He looked at you, with a face that maybe was confused, but you couldn't tell, but you just kept quiet, because a lump had formed again in your throat.
After a while, you spoke, but you didn't make the question you wanted to make.
"Are you sure that leaving Anteiku like this was the right decision? Now everyone will be mad at us" you said.
"I never asked you to come" he said.
You widened your eyes and looked at him, starting to tear up. You couldn't explain why, but you had felt a sharp pain in the chest, after he had said that.
But then he put a hand on your head, patting it.
"Hey, I didn't mean I don't want you with me... I just want you to be safe" he said. There was an hint of kindness in his tone and he offered you a small smile.
You pouted.
"You underestimate me... I already have experience, you know..."
"Of course I know" he said.
Then he sat beside you on the table, and you leaned against his arm, placing your head on his shoulder and closing your eyes.
If he hadn't changed, he would have tensed up now...
But he did not flinch, he didn't show any reaction to your actions.
Suddenly there was a noise, which caused you to jump slightly.
You looked at the door. There he was, Ayato, standing.
His blue eyes wandered from you to Kaneki, and his scowl seemed to deepen.
"I was going to tell first to Kaneki and then to (f/n), but since both of you are here, I'll tell you both" he put emphasis on the parts referring to you and Kaneki.
What the hell is wrong with him?
"Well?" you raised a brow.
"Go change in combat clothes. We're going on a mission in a few hours" he said.
You stood up and walked out of the room, rushing to yours.
That feeling of the adrenaline rushing through your veins... You hadn't felt it in a while. And it was actually a great sensation.
Before you had reached the new structure, you had asked Ayato to bring you to your house to get your mask and your old combat clothes.
Now all the stuff was placed under your bed.
You quickly put the outfit on.
It consisted in a dark purple tank top, black cargo pants, combat boots and, of course, some black bandages around your forearms, to cover your tattoos, or you would have been recognised by the CCG when you were around as a 'human'.
And last but not least, you took your purple mask.
When you where done, you walked out, and in the corridor, you met again with Kaneki.
He was wearing a black combat suit(?)
(I'm too lazy to describe it sorry!)
He just greeted you with a nod, while you smiled.
Hey, Kaneki, are you still here?
All the things that you promised me that night are not going to happen, are they?
Why did you have to change? At least my changes were just a mere lie...
Please don't remain so emotionless...
