I stared at the beauty of the lake. It rippled, rustling the picture of the gray moon. I dipped my hand in it. A lily pad floated over to me. I smiled. "Okay. Let's go back in, I'm cold."

James stared at me. "Already? We literally-"

"James, do you smell salt?"

"Salt?"

"Yes, salt. Sniff, you smell it, right?" James sniffed the air. "Hello?"

"It does smell a little salty... So?"

"Lakes are freshwater, there could be a giant monster lurking in the depths." Chills ran around throughout me.

"Yeah, you should go inside. I'll follow." I stared, but he stared right back, so I swallowed and went to the window. I pushed it open, and slid in.

Plop, plop, plop, splash!

I turned around and leaned my head out. James already had a pile of similar-looking rocks next to him. He picked one up and threw it. Turned his hip and flung the rock in an arc while he twisted his hip back.

Plop plop plop plish!

"James, we should," I yawned in the middle of my sentence, "you should sleep. School, remember?"

"Sure, I'm coming." James sprinted back over. I was tempted to close the window right as he came over, as it was in my power, and so a devil appeared.

"You should! He gave you that demeaning nickname, and he is a boy. Never trust a boy!" The devil snarled, rubbing her pitchfork maliciously. I stared at her. I looked at my other shoulder. Nothing.

I looked back at the devil, who shrugged in confusion. "Where's the other one?"

The angel appeared, adjusted her halo, tuned her harp and strummed a couple of chords. "Ah, pardon me for being late. Apologies, do not slam the window, that's rude. Not to mention, he's also a human that helped you!"

"Uh, Matilda?" James was sitting on the windowsill. A gust of wind ruffled our hair. I blinked in surprise and both the devil and the angel disappeared.

"Y-yes? Sorry, daydreaming..." James winked knowingly at me. "You're three years older than me, remember?" I reminded him, disgusted.

"True. Plus, you're like a roommate, or maybe a sister to me. And that would be even grosser."

We thought about this. Then, looking at each other, we said simultaneously, "Ew." Then Matilda pushed James up the stairs and into his room. "SLEEP!" Stomping back to Lauren's room, Matilda knew well that this late would probably be the worst of her.

So she slept.
