I do not own the characters of TV show teen wolf such as Scott, Derek, Allison, Stiles, and so on. I do not own the show teen wolf. I do not own the ideas of the TV show Teen Wolf. (Though I wish I could be such an amazing writer as the writer of Teen Wolf!!!) I do own my characters such as Emily and her friend Stephanie, and Sean because I created them.

Chapter 20

--Derek's POV:

A small ding came from when I opened the metal door that welcomed me into the veterinary clinic. I had to tell my self to physically relax. My muscles were tense and my guard was up but I didn't want to scare off this man before I even talked to him. I needed answers to a lot of questions and I was almost to the point of desperation.

As if on cue, a man walked out from the back but didn't look up. He looked a lot older and was dressed in jeans and scrubs. The swinging door creaked back and forth as he passed through it. He was so focused on cleaning off his hands with a cloth that he didn't notice me at first. When he did notice me, it wasn't the reaction I expected.

His eyes widened for a mere second but quickly recovered. It was like he was surprised to see me and like he already knew me.

"How can I help you?" He says, "Im sorry but we close in a few minutes."

"That's fine. I won't be long." I replied. "Are you Dr. Deaton?"

"Yes." He replied, his voice completely calm and confident now." I can't help but notice that you don't have any animals with you and I don't remember you dropping off any animal either. So, what brings you in?"

"I am here because of what happened on the full moon." I said, getting straight to the point.

The vet suddenly grew silent for a few moments but stayed calm and collected.

"I'm going to ask you again. What brings you in?" Deaton asks in a strong tone as if he was challenging me but I brushed it off.

It was quiet for a few moments and the tension was thick.

"I just came to ask you a few questions and I wanted to thank you." I finally said with a deep breath.

Deaton squints his eyes and cocks his head to the side slightly.

"Thank me for what?" He asks.

I began moving towards the counter where he stayed safely behind. I couldn't help but notice how uneasy Deaton became the closer I came to him, yet he stayed calm on the outside.

"I wanted to thank you for saving the girl in the forest." I told him as I placed my hands on the counter.

It wasn't like me to thank anyone ever but I thought that this one time was an exception.

"Im sorry, but I have no idea what you are talking about." Deaton replied.

There was no point in him playing dumb. I knew that he already knew about our kind.

"You know exactly what in talking about. If it wasn't for you, she would be dead. I couldn't protect her but you did." I said in an almost aggravated tone.

Deaton took a deep breath and leaned back against the wall behind him as if he knew he had been found out.

"Is she your mate?" Deaton bluntly asks.

I nod once and a grin begins to play on Deaton's face.

"Well that explains why you're here." He chuckles.

"How do you know about our kind?" I asked still serious.

"Well, ninety-five percent of the time I treat animals such as cats and dogs." He says before he looks me straight in the eyes, "The other five percent though..."

I could feel my heart pick up slightly. This man was a caretaker for werewolves? I knew they existed but I had no idea there was one in Beacon Hills. Even though this person was supposed to help our kind, I still didn't trust him completely.

"Word travels very fast when there is a new alpha. But, word travels faster when that new alpha already has a mate." Deaton suddenly says.

My eyes narrowed as I watched Deaton. That's when I noticed that he didn't seem to want to move from behind the counter. I stared to lean against the counter but stopped when I felt something stopping me. It was as if there was an invisible force pulling me back and it didn't take me long to realize what it was.

Deaton watched me as I moved back.

"It's Mountain ash that's stopping you." Deaton said and now I was beginning to feel uneasy myself.

Mountain ash is a specific tree ash that is used to ward off werewolves. It has other negative effects of werewolves as well but it was mainly used to keep beings like me out. It was impossible for me to cross.

"Don't worry. It's for my own protection, nothing else," Deaton chuckled.

I opened my mouth to speak but he interrupted me.

"How is she?" He suddenly asked, a slight hint of genuine concern was written across his face.

At first I was confused because the quick change of conversation but I was quickly back on track.

"She's safe now." I replied.

"She seemed as if she was going through a terribly painful shift when I found her." Deaton said as he began to move some papers around on the counter.

I didn't say anything at first, not sure if it was a good idea to tell him that Emily didn't shift. But then again, he could have information about what happened to her as well.

"I couldn't help but notice that she wasn't healing properly when I saved her from that hunter," Deaton said as if he was suspicious, interrupting my thoughts.

"She didn't shift. Something happened that I can't explain. I was hoping that you would have some answers." I said.

Deaton looked at me with a confused expression.

"What do you mean?" He asked as his eyes narrowed, "She was showing every sign of a shift I have ever seen. In fact, she looked like she was going through one of the worst shifts I have seen in a while."

"She was in so much pain both from the full moon and what that hunter did to her." I took a deep breath as my fingers balled into fists, "Her pain, and possibly the moon, caused her eyes to change."

"Change?" Deaton asked as his eyes narrowed even more.

"They were tainted with red." I said, my voice dropping lower.

Deaton's eyes widened and he seemed to go tense. I could feel my heart beat quicken once again at his reaction. Does he know something I don't?

"Im sorry but I need to get going," He said calmly after a few seconds but his heart beat betrayed him. I could hear it pounding loudly in his chest.

"Do you know something?" I said, ignoring what he had just said.

"Again, I'm sorry but we closed ten minutes ago. I'm going to need you to leave now." Deaton said, even more calmer now.

Chills flung down my spine as my anger grew.

"You know something and I'm not leaving until you tell me." I growled.

Deaton's eyes watched my own. It was as if he was challenging me which only added to my anger.

"Il ask you one more time before I will be forced to make you leave." Deaton said as he leaned against the opposite side of the counter my nails were now digging into.

Who does he think he is? I could feel my nails forming to claws and my eyes flashed red. It was a big mistake if he thought he would screw with me right now. I had to know what happened to Emily. Nothing would stop me, except for the mountain ash stopping me from lunging over the counter at this pathetic man.

I was so caught up in my thoughts that I hadn't noticed Deaton's hand slowly reach under the counter. As soon as I did notice it, I took a step back. Whatever he had hidden, I didn't want to be a part of. This man knew how to care for werewolves but he also knew how to do some damage as well.

"You have one minute to leave."

I backed up, knowing I couldn't win this fight today. Deaton placed his hand that was just hidden from me, into his pocket so I still couldn't see what he had. That's when he emerged from behind the counter. The thought of making a move ran through my brain instantly but I pushed it back. I needed this stranger as an allie, not a enemy.

I backed up further and Deaton followed until I was stepping backwards, out of the veterinary clinic.

"I'm truly sorry. I wish I could help you but you need to find the answers to those questions. I can't help you." Deaton said as he took a deep breath, his hand still in his pocket, "You need to leave before they get here as well."

"They?" I asked, stopping for only a second.

"I am sure you heard of the hunter that was killed. His comrades will be here any minuet now to discuss his death. Sadly, they think I have answers." Deaton said as he glanced towards the door that led to the back of the vet office, "You do my need to be here when they get here. Go back to your mate and take care of her."

"Please just tell me if she's going to be ok." I said, aggravated that I sounded like I was begging. I had little to no time to discuss anything about the hunters death or Emily.

"I understand that you are worried for her safety but you have nothing to worry about. Now, goodbye." He said as he shut the front door with a dull thud.

It was as if all my answers had been right in front of me, right in my grasp, and I had lost them. I had failed.

--Emily's POV:

I walked as slowly as I could to the gym where I knew Stiles and Scott would be.

It wasn't long before I was opening the double doors to the gym. It looked a lot more crowded than usual and everyone was gathered around the bottom of the rock wall on the wall all the way across from me.

I continued to walk into the gym towards the bleachers as my eyes traveled up the rock wall. It wasn't long before I realized that my brother and Allison were the ones climbing the rock wall as everyone watched. Coach must have combined gym classes today and that's why there were so many people in here.

I quickly took a seat on the bleachers as I started to feel weak. Every time I walked around to much, this would always happen so I wasn't too worried.

My eyes drifted towards the rock wall and could tell that Scott was moving much slower on the rock wall than he was capable of and Allison was a little ahead of him. Allison must have noticed Scott was taking it easy on her because out of no where Allison stepped on the rock that Scott was quickly reaching for. This only threw off Scott's balance because it was so unexpected. Allison had an innocent smile written across her face as Scott fell from the wall but was saved by the safety harness and the people holding onto the tope connected to it. I couldn't help but laugh at the two. I hated that they had to keep their relationship a secret now. It was hard enough for Derek and I. I couldn't even imagine if my family was a group of hunters like Allison's were.

I glanced down at the now laughing crowd that was gathered below the rock wall and smiled as I saw Stiles staring directly at me. His smile grew as our eyes met. He began to make his way through the crowd but stopped as someone suddenly grabbed the back of his collar.

A quiet laugh escaped my lips as the gym coach drug Stiles back towards the rock wall. I could faintly hear the Coach asking Stiles in an angry tone where he was going and that it was Stiles turn.

Scott was taking off the safety harness then turned it over to Stiles just as Allison reached the bottom of the rock wall. I could see Stiles telling Scott something and I soon realized what he had told my brother. Scott's eyes immediately snapped towards mine with a look of concern.

I sighed, knowing that Scott was about to lecture me as he started to make his way through the crowd. Allison stayed behind and gave me a small wave before she disappeared in the crowd of students.

Scott was in front of me before I knew it.

"Are you ok? What happened? Why are you here?" Scott started asking questions with a look of concern and anger.

"I'm fine. I'm guessing you haven't looked at your phone recently?" I smiled.

Scott reached into his gym short pockets and pulled out his phone. I watched as his entire body began to relax as he read over Derek's text that explained everything.

Scott took a deep breath and sat next to me on the bleachers.

"Em you shouldn't be here; you should be resting." Scott said, his brown eyes filled with worry.

"Like I said, I'm fine." I said before looking back over at the rock wall, "Don't you need to get back to gym class?"

"Nope. Everyone only has to climb once so I'm done for the day," Scott said before smirking evilly, "Besides, Stiles is next."

"You're so mean." I laughed, "Stiles hates heights."

The gym was loud as all the students talked to one another but both Scott and I grew silent.

"Something's bothering you." Scott said without taking his eyes off the rock wall.

"No, I'm fine." I replied.

"Your lying." Scott said as he rolled his eyes before looking back at me.

"I'm just worried." I replied a little quieter.

We both began watching as Stiles and a blonde haired girl began climbing the rock wall.

"What are you worried about?" Scott asked.

"Derek." I said and I could see Scott tense in the corner of my eye, "He is going right now to go meet that veterinarian, Deaton, that saved me during the full moon."

"Is that why he can't pick you up?" Scott asked, his voice dropping lower as if he was annoyed.

"Yes, but that's not the point." I snapped.

I hated talking to Scott about Derek. Scott would always become so moody and grumpy. In a way, I really couldn't blame him.

"I am just worried that he might do something to Deaton." I said, feeling sheepish all of the sudden.

"With Derek's temper, I can't guarantee you anything," Scott growled, "Why didn't you tell me that he was going to go see him? I could have went instead."

"I didn't know until this morning that Derek was going to go see Dr. Deaton. Sean and Derek both came over this morning and that's when they told me." I replied.

"Well at least Sean is in on it. That makes me feel better about it." Scott said under his breath.

I was about to snap at Scott for his comment but stopped as a scream filled both of our ears. We both looked directly towards the rock wall. Stiles was standing at the bottom of the rock wall but the blonde girl was still half way up the wall. Scott and I both stood up as we realized something was definitely wrong. I could hear Coach telling the girl that it was ok and that she was going to be ok but it didn't look like she was listening.

Without thinking, I began moving towards the commotion. I could hear Scott telling me to wait but I ignored him. As I got closer, it became apparent that the girl was having some sort of anxiety attack. Before I knew it, both Stiles and Allison were by my side.

"What's happening?" I asked them both.

"She was doing just fine until she reached the middle of the rock wall." Stiles said as he glanced down at my bandaged hand.

I could tell that he also was concerned that I was here.

"I'm fine." I whispered with a little smile.

"She's about to have a seizure!" An unfamiliar voice screamed in the crowd.

We all looked at one another in a panic. It was then that I noticed all the people talking about the girl around us. My eyes widened as I heard one say that the girl on the wall was epileptic.

Coach was immediately at the bottom of the rock wall trying to coax the girl down.

She looked down at us terrified and breathing heavily. Her body was shaking violently out of fear.

"It's ok. Just climb back down." Coach told her.

I moved on impulse as I began moving closer to the rock wall. I was soon next to Coach and looking up at the poor girl.

Stiles was soon back at my side, as was Scott. I smiled at Coach who looked competlg baffled.

"McCall?" Coach asked me, "I thought you were absent today?"

I shook my head, knowing this wasn't the time for questions.

Coach looked like he had no idea what to do in this situation but to be honest, nether did I. I told Coach to keep holding onto the rope that was connected to the girls harness. That rope was the only thing stoping her from falling if she let go of the rocks. I took hold of some of the rope with my good hand before I handed it to Scott and Stiles.

I looked up once again at the shaking blonde girl.

"Just let go of the wall." I told her.

"What? No!" Her voice was trembling as she gripped the wall tighter.

"Look." I said as I gave her an assuring smile, "We won't let you fall."

She looked down at us and saw that we were all holding on to the rope. She was silent for a few moments before she spoke.

"Promise?" She whispered.

"Of course." I replied.

With that, she slowly began letting go of the rocks. She was easily lowered down to the floor were everyone seemed to take a huge sigh of relief.

It wasn't until then that I noticed the entire gym was now whispering. The girl had already noticed and before anyone could stop her, she was out of the harness and running to the locker rooms embarrassed.

I wanted to glare at the few people in the crowd that started to snicker at the poor girl as she ran away but I stopped myself as I suddenly became a little weak.

"Well that's enough excitement for me. Get to the locker rooms! Class dismissed!" Coach yelled.

Everyone except Scott, Stiles, and I stayed. Allison had already told Scott that she would see him later and had left to go to the locker rooms.

"Em, that was amazing." Stiles said suddenly with a huge smile, "Where did you learn how to do that?"

"Do what? I just talked to her and let her know that she would be ok." I said, returning Stiles' smile.

I took a deep breath before something hit me. It felt like the air in my lungs had been knocked out of me. I felt Scott's strong grip on my arm. I was surprised he had even noticed my sudden change in how I felt. I thought I had hid it well. I hated how I was making them worry so much about me.

I could hear them talking to me but their voices were muffled. Scott soon appeared in front of me as he took my face in his hands.

"Emily?" Scott asked loudly, worry dripping from his voice.

"I'm fine." I told him.

Scott's hands dropped from my face to my arms.

"Scott, I can stay here with her while you go get our stuff from the locker room. She needs to go home and rest." Stiles said and Scott nodded his head.

Stiles' hand replaced Scott's on my arm as Scott began to run towards the locker room.

"I'll be right back." He yelled just before he disappeared behind the locker room doors.

I took a deep breath, "I'm fine, really."

Stiles' chuckle met my ears before he led me over to the bleachers so we could wait for Scott.

*****

I was silent for the car ride home but I couldn't help but relax as I half listened to both Stiles and Scott's voices in the front seat. Thankfully they had stopped asking me questions. I was so focused on the beautiful trees passing by us to even realize I was slowly falling asleep.

Before I knew it, I felt someone gently shaking me awake. My eyes opened to both Scott and Stiles standing in the open door of Stiles' jeep.

"Come on Em. We are home," Scott said before he helped me out of the car. I nodded my head and walked with both Scott and Stiles by my side. The sun was already disappearing and the night sky was quickly approaching.

I insisted on walking on my own which didn't make the two happy but I felt like their help wasn't that necessary. It wasn't like I was dying or anything. I could walk on my own.

It wasn't long before I was walking into my room with the two right behind me. I took a huge sigh of relief as I saw my bed just waiting there for me to lay down.

"Are you sure you're going to be ok? We can stay if you don't feel like..." Scott said in a serious tone but I interrupted him.

"For the last time, I am fine," I laughed, "I am just going to go to sleep."

It looked like Stiles was about to ask me if I was sure and I quickly held a hand up to stop him.

"I promise. Just be careful where ever you two are going." I said in a more serious tone.

They had said they needed to do something tonight and that they would be back soon. A few months ago I would ask them where they were going and why but now I have learned it's better for me to just not know. I worry to much already.

"We will. Here, take my phone in case you need it. Call Stiles if you need anything at all." Scott said with one last smile.

"I will. Now go." I laughed.

Both nodded their heads before heading down the stairs. Not long after, I heard the front door open, then close.

I took a deep breath before I began changing my clothes into something more comfortable. I slipped on some old pajama pants and a tank top. I winced a little as I accidentally bumped my wounded hand against my bed frame as I got in. Every time it hurt, it would only remind me of what happened. It was a terrible reminder.

I tossed and turned in my bed for what felt like hours. I was exhausted and wanted nothing more than to sleep but I simply couldn't. My mind was racing. I was worried about Derek, Scott, and Stiles. I kept wondering about what Dr. Deaton had told Derek and how much trouble Scott and Stiles had already gotten into tonight.

I found myself carefully fiddling with the bandages on my hand when I heard something downstairs. At first I thought it was nothing until I heard it again a few seconds later.

"Home already?" I said to myself.

I was surprised Scott and Stiles were already home. Realizing I wasn't going to get to sleep anytime soon, I lazily threw the covers off of me. The cold night air hit my skin, sending chills all over my entire body. I slipped on a jacket before I opened my bedroom door. I was met with compete darkness except for the little amount of light coming from my room behind me.

Shaking away my fears, I began to make my way down the hallway then slowly down the stairs. I was confused when I saw that none of the lights were on downstairs.

I didn't think anything of it after a few seconds as I moved into the kitchen and turned on the kitchen light. I must be more tired then I thought because I'm hearing things. I could have sworn I heard someone down here earlier.

I didn't let myself worry because there wasn't any reason for me too. The hunters wouldn't dare come inside my house and it wasn't like I had to worry about the old alpha either. Honestly, I wouldn't mind if my alpha showed up though.

I smiled at the thought before I heard something in the living room behind me. I quickly turned around and was met by nothing. The living room was dark and I could barely see inside it.

I felt my heart begin to pound as I heard another noise in the living room. I slowly began to back up as I saw something move in the shadows. I swear if someone is playing a sick joke on me, they are going to wish they were never born.

"Scott? Stiles?" My voice shook.

I had been all too familiar with what kind of demons lerk in the shadows. Those memories were now what was feeding my imagination and terrifying me.

There was no answer and I immediately regretted saying anything in the first place. All I did was let them, or it, know exactly where I am.

I felt my body freeze as I saw what look like a figure slowly moving towards me in the darkness. My breath caught in my throat as I saw the figure move closer into the light. I couldn't see who it was because they were still hidden in the shadows of the living room but it became very clear that this person was not human. Two yellow eyes stared back at me as they reflected off the kitchen light.

My mind kept telling me to run but my body would not respond. The figures eyes were almost exactly like Scott's but this was definitely not Scott; I knew that for sure.

"Who are you?" I asked but my voice came out as more of a whisper.

I jumped as the figure lunged forward. My eyes shut tight as I waited for what ever was to come but nothing happened. Instead, I heard a loud crashing noise. My eyes snapped open to see the figure now pinned to the ground face down. A familiar, booming roar echoed through the house as I stared down at the two people that were now in my kitchen.

I felt like my heart stopped when I saw red eyes glance up at me.

"Derek?" I asked, not sure what in the world was going on.

The figure struggled underneath Derek but Derek easily kept him pinned to the ground.

"Emily, go upstairs." Derek growled as the figure tried to reach for me but Derek slammed the figure back down on the cold tile floor.

"What in the hell is going on?" Another familiar voice yelled came from the front door.

Scott and Stiles both rushed in with just as my shock on their faces as I did. They both froze as they saw who the figure was but I didn't understand why.

Who was this stranger and why was he here?
