Chapter One
Twins. My family's full of them. My mom's a twin, My dad's a twin, a couple of my aunts are twins, even my great-uncle Fred is a twin. With all the twins if my family, naturally, I got the gene.
Are we identical? No, it's medically impossible for a girl and a boy to be identical twins. Sure, they can look similar, but they aren't identical. My twin brother and I look nothing alike.
My name is Kenneth, call me Ken or Kennie. When I was three, I was hit by a car while fetching a ball in the street. The accident gave me brain damage and pretty much cost me the use of my arms and legs -- an unfair trade. Because of the brain damage I have a hard time lifting, walking, and eating. My speech is uncommon, but still mostly understandable. I can barely eat; I'm skinny and weak. It's hard for me to move my arms and legs, but I can manage some of the time. I can't even push my own wheelchair.
My brother, Josh, is perfectly normal. He can run, eat, talk, and everything -- even drive! He drives me to school all the time. He's the sweetest guy I know, even better than dad. He does everything I need him to do. He pushes me around school. He stands up for me. He treats me like a normal person by exchanging playful insults. He makes school a better place for me.
We are in tenth grade. He's in all advanced. I'm in all of the "special classes." He's a pretty popular guy -- even though he hangs out with me. His friends, well, they're five-star idiots. I like them, though, because they treat me normal, too.
Do I have my own friends? No, no I don't. Unless I'm hanging out with Josh or his friends, I live a pretty lonely life at school . . .
