{Chapter Six}

I was floating.
I was floating in deep, dark, cold water. It hurt. It hurt a lot. I couldn't breathe. I was drowning.
Then I was flying. I was flying trough the open sky like a bird. The world beneath me stopped spinning. It's like everything was stopped. It was like pressing the pause button in the middle of a movie.
Yeah, that's what it was like. It was like every thing, person, and object was just frozen. All except for one.
Nate.
"What are you doing?" I asked him, spreading my arms out so that I was still soaring through the sky.
Nate looked at me in the eye and suddenly I was in them. I was in the deep blue ocean water.
"I think I..."
I waited patiently for his response. But before he could answer- Ben popped right in front of him. My eyes widened a bit as he came towards me. He had an angry look in his eyes.
"What are you doing?" I repeated to him in the same tone I told Nate. He didn't answer either; instead, he grabbed a fistful of his shirt and held him up. I tried to stop him-but I couldn't. The next thing I knew, Nate was falling down from the sky and into the frozen world before.
He had a horrified look on his face as he went down.
And down.
And down.
"Noo!" I screamed. But it seemed like no one could hear me. I heard a faint sound and I realized it was Nate.
"Scarlet..." He was saying. I nodded rapidly instead of saying, yeah? "Scarlet," He says again. "I think...I think... I love..."
I couldn't hear the rest of his response because he had already fallen down from the sky and disappeared. He was gone. All that was left of him was a piece of air.
My arms failed to my side as I took a deep breath. I glared at Ben.
"What?" he asked innocently. "I didn't do anything." Then his voice changed from innocence to anger. "He deserves to be down there. Now we're finally alone. Isn't that how you want it to be? Isn't it, Scarlet?"
I felt myself shaking my head. Then I took a deep breath and prepared myself to go down with him. Ben's eyes widened.
"No! What are you doing?"
I answered in my mind: I was going down with him.
"Scarlet no!" Ben shouted. I ignored him, and took a deep breath. I was going do-
BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.
The alarm clock woke me up in an instance. I threw the blankets off of me and sighed a breath of relief. It was only just a dream, Scarlet. But it felt so real.
I could almost feel the sweat in my hands when I was standing on the cloud with Ben and Nate. I could almost feel my heart beat when Nate feel off the cloud and into the frozen world below.
Chill out, Scarlet, it was just a dream.
Yeah, a dream that was strangely realistic.
After a quick breakfast, shower, and a hour of deciding what to wear, I finally made it to school.
"Hey!" Danielle chirped. A girl from my history class was with her.
"Hey," I mumbled back.
Danielle gave me a weird look. "What's wrong?"
That was one thing I loved about Danielle. You could put on the widest, fake smile ever; and she would still know that something's wrong. No matter how much you try, she'll always find a way to shake the truth out of you.
"Umm I had a weird dream." I shifted my book bag to my left shoulder.
One of Danielle's eyebrows rose. "Really? What was it about?"
I swallowed and look over to the girl next to her. She seemed curious in out conversation but I had heard many times that she was one of the gossip queens in our school. Danielle seemed to notice and gave me a little "Oh!" look.
"Hey Haley," Danielle told her. "I left my math book in Miss M's class. Could you go get it for me?"
The girl-Haley, I guess- shot me a glare before she made her way away from us.
Danielle grabbed my arm and led me towards the corner. "Oh my god, you're telling me EVERYTHING. What happened when you got home yesterday? Was Nate there? And why the hell did Ben call me in the middle of the night complaining about you?"
"Whoa," I said. "One question at a time."
She pouted her lips. "Too bad. You're telling me everything. Now start from the beginning!"
I sighed. She really wasn't going to give up. So I did the only choice I had. I told her everything.
Danielle's face was pretty much speechless when I finished. I couldn't read anything on it.
"Wow," she finally said. "That's just...wow. I can't believe Ben didn't tell me."
Ben and her were close friends. They told each other well, almost everything. I shrugged in response.
Then her eyes lit up all sparkly. "You wanna know what will make all this better?"
I sighed. "No. What?"
"A party!" She squealed. I shook my head and said, "No. No way. There is no way that I am going to-"
"Too bad," She cut off. "I have another idea!"
I groaned and rested my head onto her shoulder. "You know, I really don't like your ideas."
She let out a giggle. "I know. But this one is a really good one!"
"Then I wonder why I doubt it do much," I muttered under my breath.
Danielle gave me a playful smack across the arm. "Shut up. You haven't even heard it yet."
"I know," I said, my arms loosely failing to the side. "So what is your so-called great idea?"
"Come closer," she whispered. I was already regretting this. But I came closer and sighed.
"Just tell me what it is!" I practically screamed in her ear.
She grinned from one ear to another. "You. Have. To. Make. Ben...jealous!"
I took a step back. "No. No way. That's not going to happen."
Danielle yanked my arm forward. "Oh yes, yes it is going to happen."
"Danielle." I sighed. "I'm not going to do that."
"I know," she said quickly. "But you didn't hear my full plan."
Trust me; I didn't want to hear her full plane.
"I was thinking, who would make Ben more jealous then the famous Nate?"
We started walking down the hallway. "I mean, first of all he is soo hot. I don't get why you broke up with him."
I winced a little bit at that part. "You already know why I broke up with him."
"Yeah, I know. But still. He's hotter then Alex Pettyfer."
"No one's hotter then Alex Pettyfer!" I commented, earning an eye roll from Danielle.
"Whatever, you know what I mean. So anyways, I was thinking...why not make Nate fall for you again? Then when you two go out, Ben will be extremely jealous."
I raised an eyebrow. "How jealous?"
"You know that girl he used to date back in eighth grade?" I nodded. "Well, one day he caught her flirting to some pizza delivery guy. You know what he did to the pizza delivery dude?"
I shook my head, suddenly interesting in what Danielle was saying. "No, what?"
"He threatened to throw him down on a sidewalk, spill gasoline on him, and set a match on him." Danielle started talking a little faster. "But he didn't do that."
"What did he do then?"
"Oh, he just threw him down the stairs and punched the living crap outta him."
This made me think of him and Nate. He wouldn't do that to Nate, would he?
"Wow," I said because there was nothing else to say.
"I know," Danielle replied. "I don't think that poor guy's gonna be delivering pizza anymore."
"But would Ben do that to Nate? I mean, I know we're over but still..."
She shook her head. "No. He wouldn't lay a hand on Nate. After that girl and him broke up, he completely shut her off from his life. And by completely, I mean completely. He wouldn't even care if she was having sex in front of him with another guy. He would just shrug it off and walk away."
A weird feeling starting forming in my stomach. If I went out with Nate again, would Ben completely ignore me? I rested my cheek against a cool, blue locker. Then I groaned.
"Danielle," I said, getting her attention away from a hot guy that just walked by.
"Hmm?" she said hazily.
"If Ben doesn't care about Nate and me, then how would it get him jealous?" I asked.
"Oh trust me. It will get him jealous."
"How do you know that?" I ask, a little bit annoyed.
"I just know."
I poked her arm. "This better work."
"It will!" She exclaimed. "I have a plan."
I groaned. "You know, I'm not exactly fond of your ideas lately."
"I know," she repeated. "But this one will work. I got it all planned out."
The bell rung, surprising both of us. I grabbed my textbook and said bye to Danielle. We both made our separate ways. Her plan still stuck in my head as I walked down to my other class.
Why would I agree to something stupid like that?
Danielle and her stupid ideas. First, I have to get Nate to fall in love with me. Then, I have to make Ben jealous by dating Nate. And then I have to break NATE'S heart by dumping him and going out with Ben again.
This wasn't really how I planned. In fact, it was far more complicated then what I had thought. Nate was clearly not at good terms with me. Neither was Ben. But I have to use Nate to get Ben back.
Only one question arose in my mind:
How in the world do I get Nate to fall in love with me?

Hi!(: Here's an update. I hope this one makes it up for the short on I posted three days ago xD
ANYWAYS I was thinking about uploading this Friday but then I was like WAIT A MINUTE. That's when The Hunger Games movie comes out!! :D :D :D Yes, I'm a huge obssesed Hunger Games fan. If you're seeing it too, you're my new best friend.
