Sarah's pov
We stood some of us in the bed of the truck,watching Murphy piss in the field.Weird right.
"I don't know if anyone's notice but Murphy ain't looking to good"I said and took a sip of my water and passed it to 10k.I smiled at me as he took the canteen.
I have to admit sometimes I would stare longer than I needed,a part of me hated that.The other part could stare all day.
"I know he's liking worse"Garnett said as he eyed him up and down
"Yeah he was creepy to begin with"Warren said and I chuckled.Thats when Murphy turned around to find us staring at him.Everyone turned away except me,I mean he already knew we were staring.
He zipped up his pants and walked over to us,grumpy as usual.
"Man I sure can use some of those Kansas City barbecue ribs right about now"Doc said as he got in the truck
"Amen"I praised as I checked und r my seat to see all my weapons in order.
"10k my bow and arrow and bat still in there"I asked and he nodded
"And your samurai knifes"he said and I nodded.How can I forget about those beauties.
"So where to next"I lightly shouted as I hopped in my motorcycle
"Province Town"Garnett said and I nodded while staring my engine following them.
We pulled up at a compound that looked like they had good security
"Surrender all weapons.Are they serious"10k asked
"Looks like"Mack said and I scoffed
"Hell no,I'd rather take my chances with the Z's then give up my weapons"I said and 10k looked down at me with a shy smile.
I looked down at all the weapons that I had on me.I had a gun strapped to my thigh,my ankle and my two golden hand guns I carry with me all the time.I had bullets strapped to my other thigh,knives strapped to my ankle.And a vest type thing that had a hand gun with two clips
We continued until we were stopped by a women who had an automatic.
"Stop right there .This is a private compound.Im gonna have to ask you to run around and go back the way you came"she said while holding the gun at us with two men behind her.
Garnett stepped out the truck with his hands in the air.
"I'm looking for major William's.Jones William."he said
"And who are you"she asked as she aimed the gun
"I'm Sargent Charles Garnet.Georgia nation guard.We've known each other going Pre-Z"he finished and she wyes him up and down
"Wait there.Your crew,they try to get out,we fire and we see a weapon we fire"she said and disappeared.Later a man about Garnett's age came out
"Holy shit.Its the ghost of Charlie Garnett.Never expected to see you again,at least not alive"he said
"Hey joe didnt expect to see you again either.Looks like we're both still standing."Garnett says
"Looks like.Last time I saw you,you were pulling my ass out of a ditch full of Z's"he said and I chuckled at the image of the tall skinny man afraid and getting pulled out a ditch.10k shot me a look,it wasn't a bad look but more like 'I like staring at you'.Or something.
It was weird.I don't know if I like him or not.Well more than a friend.It was hard dealing with feelings,especially in the apocalypse.You don't know if today might be there last day.But I can tell you,the worst day of loving someone is the day you lose them.I might like 10k and god forbid anything happen to him if those feeling are 100% true.I didn't notice I was staring at him till he stared back.His cheeks turned a deep red and he turned back around.
"The truck and motorcycle stays outside.And you'll have to surrender your weapons"William said and I scoffed as I got off my bike
"Do we have to,I mean come on it the apocalypse"I said and he sighed but nodded.Garnett was first giving his weapons,then Mack,Addy,Warren,and Doc.I watched in amusement as 10k pulled out a series of weapons and when he thought he wasn't gone get caught they made him pull out the chain.My chain.The one I used to save them.They checked Murphy and the women seen he had no weapons and he winked at her.And finally me,I only gave them what they can see.So my two golden guns,my vest,my gun strapped to my thigh,and the bullets.She checked me and it went off around my waist
"Hey I'm clean right there"I said and pulled up my shirt and turned.
"Up against the wall"she said and I put both my palms against the wall and spread my legs
"Your a natural at this"she said
"Trust me I've done this enough to know"I said with a sly smile.She patted down my legs and found the gun and set of throwing knives.She shook her head and placed them on the table.She then used the metal detector,and again it went off at my waist.I had to explain to them that my belly button piercing has metal in it.
"I haven't had a strip search in ages"I said and everyone looked at me but I just shrugged
"And I'm coming back for my babies"I said to the man behind the window that took our weapons
We walked out that area and seen three teens begging to come back in.Saying 'We were wrong'.Begging and pleading.We watched as the leader told them to let the kids back in.We continued to follow the gut that let us in.
"Feel lighter without that damn hammer"Garnett said as we walked
"Ya I feel naked and not in a good way"Warren said and I nodded
"When we started out everyone was armed.Then one day a guy decided to shoot his wife's boyfriend.Lost five people"he said
"We have a strong perimeter.Never been breached,all our problems happen inside"he said
"And your not worried about bandits or people like those kids back there.I studied human behavior and by the looks of it,those kids aren't any good"I said and he looked back at me
"Well missy you might be right.But they're just kids,so why not let them back in"he said and I sighed
"You studied human behavior"10k whispered to me
"Well kinda just a few things here and there.Not like I was an FBI agent"I said which made him laugh
"All the doors and gates close automatically,sealing each section of the compound.Like on a submarine,can't be opened by Z's.Everything been zombie proofed"he said as we walked inside
"Ever heard of the titanic"Murphy said and coughed to hide my laugh
"Your welcome to wait outside with your vehicle"William said
"I'm sorry for my Friend he's been through a lot"Garnett apologized
"Haven't we all"William countered and we continued walking
"We grow our own fruits and vegetables"The scraps and water go into a biomass generator.Were up to four hours of electricity a day"he said as I looked around the dining hall.
"What's their story"Warren asked,referring to one of the three kids that begged to come back in
"Had some trouble a little while back with a preacher.Decided that the zombie apocalypse was actually the second coming and we needed to save the Z's,not kill them.Calls them 'The resurrected.Real whack-job "he said and I scoffed
"I'm not expert on the Bible but I'm pretty sure there nothing in there about zombies"Warren said
"Ya well crazy spreads fast.Cant think well on an empty stomach.Speaking of which,you first meal is on me,after that you have to trade"he said
"Sounds reasonable"I said and the group nodded.We all grabbed plates,I grabbed grapes,pineapple,an apple and some watermelon,with a roll of bread and got some water.
"Hey 10k"He looked at me as I held a grape in my hand I tossed it in the air In his direction and he caught it in his mouth.We both laughed as he did the same to but it hit my nose and landed on the table.
I watched as he had an eye on the girl that came back in.I rolled my eyes as he got up and followed her.
"Go with him"Addy said and I looked at her
"It's pretty obvious you guys have the hots for each other"she said and I scoffed as I finished up my water.But I sighed and got up to go to the door he went to.
I caught him just as he was going out the exit door
"10k what the hell are you doing"I whispered to him as I caught hold of his shirt
"That girl.Shes up to something"he said and grabbed my hand to follow that girl
We followed her outside to the gates.We slowly walked trying not o get seen.I stepped in something hard.I looked down and it was a cross
"She's limping"he said and I nodded and felt the cross and felt that it was two pieces.I pulled it apart and it was a knife.
"10k"I said and he looked at the knife back to me.We watched as the lady tried to help her but got bit.Then another man tried to help and he was gone too.
"We need weapons"he said and I nodded and we ran to where they kept the weapons.Bit there was someone or a Z in there.We turned back around and seen three Z's chasing after us.I grabbed 10k's hand and we ran the opposite direction.
"Ok that was a close one"I said and a zombie came behind 10k and grabbed onto his shirt.I grabbed a rock and banged it against the Z's head.
"Rule number one 10k,anything can be used as a weapon"I said and ushered him to follow me.We had to use the roofs to walk around.I started hearing banging,I looked around and seen a door that was being held by a piece of wood.We removed the wood and pit came the rest of the group
"10k,Sarah"Addy breathed and we pushed the wood back into place.
"How do we eat out of here"Garnett asked
"We've been using the roofs"10k said and I nodded
"We need to get our weapons"I said and they nodded
"The cult freaks are in the compound.Armed"10k added
"Murphy"Warren asked."Haven't seen him"I said
"Sarah's right,we need the weapons let's go"We we're about to turn the corner but the cult freaks were there
"Freeze brothers and sisters.The Resurrection Church welcomes you.Please raise your hands to the heavens or I will resurrect you where you stand"the man said and I slowly raised my hands and looked at 10k.I grabbed his hand and took off running.They shot bullets at us but we weren't hit.
"C'mon we need our weapons"I said and he nodded.We came to the little box office that had our weapons and it only had one Z in there.
"Ok Ill open,you attack"u said and he nodded while picking up a rock.I opened the door and the Z immediately fell out going for 10k .He instantly hit it over the head.
"Let's go"We walked in and grabbed our weapons.He waited for me to strap everything that I had to to my body.I have him a nod before we took off running to the building.
"We can get to the top and try and take them out like that"I said and he nodded.I stopped at a corner and seen a guy with a gun a little bigger than 10k's
"I'll go in front you get him from behind"I said and he nodded before staying behind
"Hey you"I yelled the man turned around and came running towards me and when he was close enough 10k tapped him on the shoulder and hit him in the head with a something.I grabbed his rifle and made sure there was bullets
"Ok let's go"he said as we got to a window where we can de what was happening
"You know how to shoot that thing"he asked me and I nodded
"Your not the only one with a good shot"I said.We heard Garnett trying to reason with the crazy leader
"I can't get a shot,what about you"I said
"No,I need to get to the roof.Get the truck"he said but I grabbed his hand
"Be careful"I said and he nodded."You too"he said he looked at me for a while before running away.I looked at the direction we came in and ran out.I went back to the small building that held our weapons and grabbed them and stuffed them in a bag I found,along with an a couple extra guns and knives.I ran out the building and out the compound.
I see. A Z running towards but I piked it easily.I grabbed my motorcycle and pushed It into the bed of the truck along with the bag of weapons.I felt a pair of hands on my back but I pushed them back.I seen three Z's coming for me my two regular hand guns were already in the truck and I had no access to them.I took out the gun from my thigh,and shot two of them but before I can the third one another one knocked the clip I was gonna put in the gun out of my hand into the sky.
I punched the Z in the face before grabbing the other one and pushed it into each other just in time for me to catch the clip and load my gun,shooting them both.I quickly got into the truck and pulled up next to the gate ready for a quick escape.
I seen Murphy in the cage full on zombies.What in the living fuck.He kept gong on and on about him being a god or something.
"I am the true incarnation of the resurrected"he yelled and it clicked he's buying us time
"Cmon 10k"I whispered I got out the sniper I had and before I can shoot Murphy put his finger in a Z's mouth and it didn't bite him.
"Holy shit"I quickly grabbed the bobby pin in my hair and picked the gates locked.
It happened so quickly,the crazy leader pulled out his gun pointed it at Murphy.Warren knocked him out of the way but he still shot.But he shot Garnett instead.I pulled out the sniper and shot his men just in time for 10k to shoot the leader.And the zombies got lose
"You guys this way"I yelled and they all came running.Except Warren.I ran inside and gave her cover.
"Warren let's go"I said as I shot a Z that was running towards us.
"No I can't,I Can't leave him"she yelled in tears.I seen 10k running towards us and shot a Z that was behind him.I heard them whisper 'I love you's'
"Warren come one"I grabbed her arm and tried pulling her up but she wouldn't let go.10k came and helped me get her up.Of course with a struggle
"We can't let him turn,we have to give him mercy"she cried
"No,wait wait.I can't,I can't.We CNAT leave him"but we did we dragged her to the car and drove off.
Before we could fully take off she had the car stopped.She got out and tried to take 10k's gun but he wouldn't let go
"10k let her"I said and he let go and aimed for the compound
"What is she doing"Murphy asked but I shushed him
"Charles Garnett,I give you mercy"she then shot the zombified Garnett to the grown along with the leader that 10k didn't kill.
She gave the gun back to 10k and got In the car.
"Let's go"she said and Mack started driving.
I put my head on 10k's shoulder as we were driving.I didn't know him for long,but it felt like years.He was a great leader and a great person.Bit for now we'll listen to Citizen Z talk.
"Someday we'll find out the real reason why the zombie apocalypse happened.All this death and destruction.All this pain and heartache.Who do we blame?Maybe it was a government virus that escaped the lab.Maybe it was voodoo.Or maybe God just doesn't like us.Some days though I wonder if we brought this on ourselves.We had a chance to do this whole planet earth thing right,and we blew it.We got the apocalypse we deserved.But if we're lucky,some day this will all be over.I hope so.And next time,I hope we get it right"He finished and signed off
I sighed and looked up at 10k as he reluctantly wrapped his arm around my shoulder.And I drifted off to sleep.
