CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE
date night

YASMINE MCCALL

It turns out that it was Scott in the woods. He had told Allison he'd come to return her necklace that she'd forgotten at school (that he'd stolen from her bedroom) and that her father told him that sometimes Allison ran that route.

Lydia, Allison and I ended up not going shopping and rescheduling. As always, Lydia and I would prefer not to be around each other, but we were both close friends with Allison and so we had to tolerate each other.

I glanced up from my notebook as I heard a knock on my bedroom door. "Come in." I hollered.

Melissa opened the door and peaked her head in. "Hey,"

"Mom, you can come in." I smiled and put my notebook down, moving to the edge to the bed.

Melissa walked in and took a seat next to me. "So, I have to ask you something."

I nodded. "Go ahead."

"I have a date tonight and before you ask for his name, he's coming over later to pick me up." Melissa spoke quickly before I could interrupt. "And I came to ask if you'd help me do my makeup and my hair."

My eyes widened and a huge beam made its way to my face. "Yes, yes, yes!" I squealed happily and jumped off my bed. "Yes, I'd love to!"

Melissa got up with an excited smile. "Okay, good. I can't believe this is happening, maybe I should canc-"

I grabbed her hands and calmed her down, looking deep into her eyes that looked exactly like mine. "Mom, calm down," I laughed slightly. "It's gonna be okay. We're gonna make you look even more beautiful than normal and this guy will die when he sees you!"

"Well," Melissa grinned. "I hope he doesn't die when he sees me."

I rolled my eyes at Melissa's comment and ran a hand through my hair. "How do you want your makeup done, though?" I asked.

She shrugged slightly. "That's up to you. I trust you, Yasmine." She smiled.

A similar smile spread on my face and I made her sit down in the chair by my vanity as I rushed into her bedroom and grabbed the makeup purse in which she kept all of her makeup. I brought it back into my bedroom and closed the door after me, excited to do this.

^^^^

I stepped back and smiled happily, nodding my head approvingly. "I'm finished." I said to Melissa.

I'd covered the vanity mirror and also any others mirrors, because I wanted to surprised her with how I'd done her makeup and hair. She'd been excited and so had I, and it'd been so easy to do her makeup since she didn't keep asking questions but just watched some different shows on the TV that hung on my bedroom wall.

Melissa's eyes widened in excitement. "Really?"

I nodded and turned her around so she was facing my large vanity mirror. I ripped the sheet off and let her see her own reflection. Knowing my mom didn't like heavy makeup looks, I'd just kept her makeup subtle and simple, but still beautiful. Her hair was tamed a little and pulled into a beautiful up-down hairstyle.

"So," I bit my lip nervously as I watched my mom stare at herself. "What'd you think?"

Melissa stood up and pulled me into a tight hug. "Ah, I love it!" She sang happily into my ear, a beam breaking out on my face.

Suddenly my phone began ringing and I pulled away from my mom, who then walked out of my bedroom, and slid my phone out of my back-pocket.

I saw Stiles' name on my screen and picked up. "Hey Stiles," I greeted and plopped down on my bed.

"Hey Yas,"

My eyebrows pulled together at the tone of his voice. "Stiles, is everything okay?" I asked worried.

"I-I, it's just..." He struggled to form a sentence at first. "My dad was looking through some case evidence against Derek and he wouldn't show me. He asked for some whiskey and I got him drunk to get information from him about the case."

I nodded to myself and played with my beige painted nail. "Okay..."

"He mentioned my mom."

The phone almost fell out of my hands and my eyes widened. Claudia Stilinski's name was never mentioned either in the Stilinski household or anywhere else with any of the two around. She was a sore topic that nobody brought up, ever.

"Are you okay?" I asked genuinely concerned for Stiles.

A muffled sniffle echoed through my phone. "Yea, I just...this was stupid, I'm sorry." He mumbled at a rapid speed.

"No, no, no! Stiles, it wasn't stupid. I know it's not an easy thing for either you or your dad, and it's okay to call someone if you want to talk about it."

"I just...he hasn't mentioned her in so long." Stiles stated and took a deep breath, which I could hear through the phone. "And then he just suddenly said her name."

"What else did he say about her?" I questioned my best friend.

Stiles sighed. "Nothing. He fell asleep right after he told me he still missed her."

"Stiles, listen to me," I spoke softly, hearing the vulnerability in his voice. "You both still miss her and of course, you have every right to. None of you really talk about it and I think the Sheriff doesn't mention it, because he doesn't want to bring up that old pain." I explained to him. "But if you ever want to talk to someone about her or anything else, you can always call me."

Stiles chuckled a little. "Yeah, I know. That's why I called you."

"Yasmine, does this look okay?" Melissa barged into my bedroom, wearing all black. "Oh, you're on the phone. Sorry."

"Nah, mom, it's okay." I assured her.

"Sounds like you have something to take care of yourself," Stiles said. "Thanks for picking up the phone, I guess."

I smiled a little. "It's okay, Stiles. Remember, you can talk to me." We said our goodbyes and hung the phone.

Melissa smirked. "Stiles, huh?"

"Mom, he's my best friend." I rolled my eyes and put down my phone.

She shook her head and sat down right next to me, placing her hand on mine. "I know you like him as more than a best friend, Yasmine."

My eyes widened. "What?!" I asked worried, but tried to play it off. "Whaaat? Pfft, no, never."

Melissa rolled her eyes. "Sweetie, you don't have to lie to me. I know you like him."

I sighed. "Yeah, okay, maybe a little." I admitted and ran a hand through my hair. "But he likes Lydia, so it's all good."

"Yas-"

"Mom, please. I don't want to talk about it right now." I interrupted and smiled sadly.

She nodded and stood up, taking a deep breath. "Okay, how do I look?"

"If I was a man, I'd totally date you." I smirked when I saw her. She looked absolutely gorgeous and I was glad to see my mom so happy to go on a date after so long.

Melissa smiled happily and it seemed like that was the answer she'd wanted. "Thanks, baby." She kissed my forehead before she walked out my bedroom again.

I plopped down on the bed and picked up my laptop. I had an English essay due tomorrow and I just needed to finish it, so since I had no plans for tonight, I'd figure I'd just do that.

^^^^

The door to my bedroom was opened once again and in walked Scott.

"Mom's date is here." Scott told me.

I dropped my laptop on my bed and walked out my bedroom. I causally glanced to my right and saw Allison sitting on Scott's bed, looking down at the floor. She looked up and I waved at her, so I waved back with a smile.

"Why is Allison in your bedroom?"

Scott glanced back at me before he began walking down the stairs. "She came to talk."

"To talk?" I repeated and grinned, bumping shoulders with Scott. "Just to talk?"

Scott grinned embarrassed and rolled his eyes. "Shut up." He mumbled embarrassed.

I rolled my eyes at my brother's embarrassed face and walked towards the front door, but as I extended my arm to open the door, Scott grabbed my arm. I was about to say something, but the worried look on his face made me stay silent. The doorbell rang again.

"Scott!" Melissa yelled from upstairs. "Get the door!"

Almost as if something was wrong, Scott's grip on my arm tightened a bit and he began backing up, a petrified look on his face. I looked to him with wide eyes and he just looked at me with that same look.

The doorbell rang twice and it was as if it snapped him out of some kind of trance.

"Scott! For the love of God, please!" Melissa yelled again.

My breath hitched in my throat as the door handle began turning as if someone else, someone from the outside, was opening the door. I stepped forward but before I could grab the door handle, the door was opened and nobody stood on the other side.

"What are you two doing?" Melissa stood at the top of the stairs, looking down at my brother and I. "Aren't you gonna invite him in?"

When we turned back around again to face the door, Peter Hale stood on the other side with a smug look on his face.

"Hello there." He greeted.

My eyes narrowed and I stepped forward, ignoring Scott's small mumbles of protest. "What the hell are you doing here, Peter?" I spat angrily.

Peter barely got to open his mouth before Scott rushed forward and tried to slam the door in his face before he could utter a word. Peter put his hand on the door and pushed it open.

"Really?" Peter questioned Scott sarcastically. "Slam the door in my face? Come on, Scott. Take a second to think that through."

"I'll tell her." Scott exclaimed.

"That I used to be a catatonic invalid with burns covering half my face?" Peter questioned smug. "Good luck with that."

Though my mom knew that I went to Long Term Care facility and helped there, I never told her who I visited every. She had no idea that Peter Hale was the man I visited and she didn't know that he was indeed a man who'd been in a catatonic state for almost six years with burns covering half his face. She had no idea what kind of man she was about to go on a dinner date with.

"If you hurt her, if you even touch her." I threatened him, my eyes narrowed.

Peter glanced between my brother and I, probably guessing that Scott was thinking the same thing as I. "Yasmine, if I may interrupt you listing the five most impotent sounding threats for a moment, try to remember that I've been in a coma for six years." He held steady eye contact with me, but the tone in his voice changed when he spoke to me. With Scott, it was threatening but with me it was somewhat gentler. "Don't you think I'd like to have dinner with a beautiful woman?"

"Just, just half a second. Sorry." Melissa apologized as she rushed around the house.

Peter now looked at Scott. "Or maybe you think that I've come up with an idea." He addressed both of us. "Like how it might be easier to convince you to be part of the pack if your mother is too."

Scott and I looked at each other with the same expression and everything in me told me that Peter was evil enough to do it. He seemed like the guy who would actually turn Melissa to convince Scott to join his lame-ass pack.

Peter began walking in towards us and together, Scott and I began backing up. "You need to understand how much more powerful we are together. You, and me, and Derek." Peter said to Scott. "Did you know that some of the most successful military operations during II World War were the Germany U-boat attacks. Do you know what they called them?" He questioned us, a sick smile on his face. "Wolf packs. Did you know that?"

"Yes," I replied annoyed.

Peter kept his gaze on Scott, though. "Or are you failing History as well?"

Scott wasn't backing down either, but kept his gaze on Peter. "I know the Germans lost the war."

"I think you'll find that most historians would argue that as a failure of leadership and trust me, we don't have that problem here."

Melissa approached us. "I'm ready." She smiled.

The only thing was keeping me from attacking Peter with the baseball bat by the door was Scott's tight grip on my hand and the only thing keeping him back from attacking Peter with his claws was my tight grip on his hand.

"Sorry again," Melissa laughed slightly, smiling at Peter.

Peter acted like a real gentleman and held out his arm for Melissa. She seemed surprised at his chivalry, but took his arm anyway.

"Mom," Scott rushed forward as Peter and Melissa walked out of house, arm in arm.

Both turned around. "Yes, sweetheart?" Melissa asked in a tone that heavy suggested that she just wanted Scott to keep quiet and let her go on this dinner-date with Peter.

I nudged Scott as he froze and I stepped forward, smiling at my mom. "He means to say, have a good time."

Melissa nodded with a smile and began walking to Peter's car with him, still arm-in-arm. Scott and I shared a look, and we both knew we had to do something before Peter hurt or tried to hurt my mother.

Then Brendon Urie walked out and I was so happy, my mom got so annoyed, lol. She was like so tired and I was hyped because Brendon walked out, haha. My question: do y'all like p!atd?
