Kell of Dale

Race: Daleman

Kell is a veteran of many fights, from skirmishes with orcs and goblins on the borders of Dale to bandit ambushes, one of which claimed his leg. He was badly injured after that particular attack, and remained in a coma for nearly five years. During that time his best friend Speer took over as the patriarch of his family, and it was he that spent much time raising Kell's three children. When Kell recovered he took over, but the time lost was keenly felt by all. As the King's advisor Kell rarely spent time with his family, but what little time he had he spent trying to make memories with his children. His wife died in childbirth, and he has never fully recovered from the loss. Still, he attempts to raise his family as best he can, with plenty of help from his eldest daughter Astrid.

King Brand of Dale

Race: Daleman

The grandson of the famed Bard the Bowman, King Brand succeeded the throne of Dale when his father Bain passed away. The kingdom he inherited was in turmoil, for war brewed on its borders from the day he ascended the throne. His young appearance is deceptive, for he is a skilled warrior and talented tactician.

Astrid

Race: Daleman

Astrid has not led an easy life. From caring for her siblings to working in the healing wards, her entire existence is devoted to helping others, even to the detriment of herself. She cares deeply for her siblings and would do anything to protect them. Though she is no fighter by any means, she would even be willing to take up arms in their defense. Having lost her mother when she was a young girl, Astrid fears losing those she cares about more than anything else.

Speer

Race: Daleman

Speer was once one of the King's Huscarls, elite guards tasked with the defense of the keep. His position meant that he accompanied the king everywhere, and due to this he fought in many battles. He served under King Bain and was released from service when Brand became king, but he still remained a guard. His wife and two children were killed in a wagon accident, and for this he never forgave himself. When his friend Kell was badly injured in an ambush, Speer was only too happy to care for his friend's children until he healed, for they reminded him of his own family in a way. When Kell healed, he still remained close to the family, and Kell and his children viewed him as one of their own.

Gilian

Race: Half-Dunedain, Half-Breeman

Gilian was born to Haldin, a ranger, and Ada, a woman from the small village of Staddle. Her father took her and her mother to the Dunedain village of Esteldin, where she lived for only a year before it was attacked and burned to the ground. Her mother died in the attack, and her father fled into the far north. Here Gilian was raised alone with her father, who taught her how to hunt, fish, and protect herself. Her father died when she was sixteen in an avalanche, and she made her way southward alone, where she hoped to be welcomed by her people. But the Dunedain shunned her once they learned of her mixed heritage. Fortunately she found companionship with several other young rangers, who the other Dunedain called "halfbreeds" or "mongrels." She was twenty years old when she heard of Gerithor's quest, and her and her friends eagerly joined the group of rangers who accompanied him.
