SOPHIA'S POV

Humiliated basically sums up how I felt about my slight breakdown in front of Michael. He probably thought I was a complete and total mess. Not that I could disagree.

After my embarrassing... well, crying, I had walked home as fast as I could, where I ran into a very confused looking Dylan.

"Hey, Michael just texted me. Soph, what's going on?" he asked gently, as soon as I walked through the door.

I felt my eyes begin to tear up, and I shrugged at Dylan. What's wrong with me today?

He looked at me worriedly, "Soph, seriously, what happened?"

I sighed, wiping away a tear, "I don't even know. I just spoke to Grace about Mom and the next thing I knew I couldn't stop crying."

"It was so embarrassing!" I added. Dylan exhaled, and walked over to me, wrapping his arms around me.

"Does Michael think I'm a massive freak now?" I mumbled into his shoulder.

I felt him shake with laughter, "Don't be silly, Soph. He texted me becaus he was worried about you! You're like his little sister."

I nodded, but I really only heard two words: Little sister.

 THE NEXT DAY

As soon as I arrived at school, I ran to Fred. He quickly grabbed my hand, and led me across the courtyard to the terrace area.

"Where are we going?" I asked curiously, as we walked towards a tree.

"You'll see," he replied with a grin.

The tree was massive, and when we walked around the other side, I was in total shock.

On one side of the tree, there was a huge sign that read: 'Winter formal?' Lying on the ground, beneath the sign, was a bouquet of red roses.

"So, is that a yes?" he asked with a smirk.

I nodded happily, and flung my arms around my neck.

This is one of the sweetest things that anyone had ever done for me. It was like something out of a movie. The winter formal is this coming weekend, and I'm so happy that I actually have a partner to go with. Fred picked up the bouquet of roses, and handed them to me, placing a kiss on my cheek as he did so. I felt my cheeks turn red, and I smiled happily at how sweet he was to me.

Together, we walked to homeroom.

--------------------------------------------------

MICHAEL'S POV

I was sitting in homeroom when I noticed Soph walked in with that absolute twat Fred. I had to restrain myself from rolling my eyes. There is just something about him that I don't like.

At least Soph looked happier than she was yesterday. I'm still worried about her, but I know that I will get a chance to talk to her again at the musical rehearsal this afternoon.

This morning, I had practically been forced into going to formal with Jessica. She had cornered me in front of our entire group, and had basically told me that we will go together.

"We are the power couple of school," she told me happily, before forcefully grabbing my hand and walking me to homeroom.

She is currently situated on my lap, and is nibbling on my ear. I'm not actually a huge fan of PDA, and I find myself actually feeling embarrassed when Soph turned around and looked weirdly at us. I've tried to remove Jessica from my lap, but she is like a parasite. She clung to me, and won't leave me alone.

Throughout the day, Jessica continued to squeal happily everytime she saw me because she was so happy that we're going to the formal as a 'couple'. At lunch, she proceed to try to feed my food from her fork. Ryan had found this hilariously, and had loudly snorted when Jessica tried to force-feed me an apple. This had earned him a hideous scowl from Jessica, who clearly thought that her actions were cute, rather than weird.

Needless to say, I was actually looking forward to musical rehearsal because it would be a break from Jessica. Besides, I actually enjoyed spending time with Soph, and I wanted to see whether she was okay after yesterday afternoon.

When I walked into the drama rooms, I found Soph sitting on a desk on her own. She smiled at me awkwardly when I walked over to her.

-------------------------------------------------------

SOPHIA'S POV

I haven't actually thought about what I will say to Michael when I next see him. I feel awkward, and embarrassed.

"Hey," I said quietly to him as he sat on the desk across from me. Grace had gone to get some sheet music, so we're waiting for her to come back before we could start rehearsal.

"Hey Soph," he greeted me with a grin. He ran a hand through his hair, and I couldn't help but notice his arm muscles when he tensed his arm.

Michael has definitely changed a lot since I first met him, and I begin to notice this more and more frequently.

And that's when I realised, that I shouldn't be noticing this. Michael is my brother's best friend. But I mean, there's really no harm in noticing that someone is attractive right? It wasn't like I'm planning on acting on it. Besides, I like Fred. Don't I?

"Soph, are you okay?" Michael asked me sincerely, looking me in the eyes.

I smiled softly at him,"Yeah, I am. Sorry again for yesterday," I replied, looking anywhere but his eyes.

I felt goosebumps when Michael gently lifted my chin so that I was looking at him, "Seriously, please stop apologising! I don't care just as long as you're okay. You can talk to me about anything."

Okay, so that is just about the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me. I could feel my cheeks practically reddening, and Michael smirked at me when he noticed.

"Thanks," I said with a slight giggle. He grinned at me, just as Grace walked back into the room, holding music sheets.

No one else has turned up to drama club today, so it was just Michael, myself and Grace.

"Well, I suppose it doesn't really matter that no one else showed up, we're just practicing a scene between Jordan and Megan today," explained Grace as she sat directly in front of the stage.

"Turn to page 23," she instructed as she flipped through her own play book.

Page 23

Megan and Jordan have been studying together at Megan's house, when Megan falls asleep, Jordan gently carries her upstairs, and places kiss on her cheek when he puts her in bed.

Jordan then sings an acoustic version of "I Think I Love You, So What Am I So Afraid Of" by the Partridge Family

***

Jordan leaves Megan's house, just as Megan wakes up, and sings the last line of the song.

*END SCENE

Oh WOW. Out of all the awkward and embarrasing scenes we have already done, this would be far be the worst.

Oh WOW. Out of all the awkward and embarrassing scene's we have already done - this would by far be the worst.

What if Michael thought I'm heavy? I'm internally freaking out. This play is just a recipe for disaster. Grace surely had only cast us both so that she could place us in awkward situations for her own enjoyment.

It was so weird, having to play Michael's... love interest. It was so far fetched from reality, and I know Dylan would freak out if he sees this, especially considering he hated seeing me with anybody.. let alone Michael, his own best friend who is a senior.

"Well go on!" I exclaimed Grace after Michael and I neglected to move to the stage.

We stared at each other for a second, before Michael shrugged with a grin. He walked on the small stage, and I followed suit, laying down on the stage.

"And action!" called Grace from the front row.

I closed my eyes, pretending to be asleep. Within moment, I felt Michael crouch down beside me and place two hands underneath me. I tensed up immediately, and I knew that he would be smirking.

"Relax!" he whispered to me quietly, as he lifted me off the ground. I was surprised at how easily he did it, and how gentle he was. Michael carried me across the stage, and lay me down in a 'fake bed'.

I heard him chuckle softly as my cheeks burned when he kissed me on the cheek. I couldn't help but notice however, that he kissed me closer to my lips than my cheek.

I stayed silent in the bed, as Michael got up and sang the acoustic version of his song. Once again, I was shocked at how amazing his voice was. His husky tone carried the notes perfectly, and I was concentrated on his voice, that I nearly missed my last line.

I sang it however, and it came out betther than I expected.

Once we had finished the scene, Grace stood from her place and cheered.

"Just brilliant! We are finally going to be able to put on a great show," she exclaimed.

Michael and I stood on the stage, staring at each other. I was still slightly blushing from where he had kissed me on the cheek earlier.

And even worse? I couldn't shake the feeling that I had enjoyed the kiss. And that's what really freaked me out.

There was no possible way that I could…like… Michael. I mean, he's Michael. My brother's best friend. He's a senior.

Heck, there's no way he would even consider looking at a measly freshman like myself. As we stood looking at each other, Michael grinned cheekily at me. And I couldn't help but smile back.
