Liza's POV
I can't believe it. Me and David have been dating for a year! A year ago, I never even thought that I would have been dating someone, let alone David. It was weird that it was almost 8pm and he hadn't called or texted. suddenly, I hear a buzz on my phone. I smile when I see the caller ID.
Liza: "Hey there stranger."
David: "Hey there other stranger."
Liza: "Happy 365 days!"
David laughs.
David: "Happy 1 year to you too."
Liza: "I love you."
David: "I love you too."
Liza: "So are we planning on doing anything today?"
David: "Funny you mention that... come to my house in 15 minutes."
Liza: "Wha..."
David hangs up on me before I can finish my sentence. I decide to get ready since I think this is a date but I can't tell since SOMEONE hung up on me! I pick out something fancier.
Perfect. I get in my car and drive to David's house.
Once I get there, I am greeted with a line of roses leading to the door. I see the door open, and I see David standing there. He is even dressed up. I put my hand over my mouth in total shock of all of this. David motions for me to go to the door. I slowly walk up to him, and I feel a tear run down my face. David lets out a slight laugh.
David: "Why are you crying baby?"
Liza: "I'm just so happy."
I enter his house and wrap my arms around him tightly. He hugs back right away. He gives me a small kiss on my neck, and we pull away.
David: "Follow me."
I grab his hand and he leads me to his backyard. Once we get there, I see the beautiful string lights that he has hung along the fence. I also see a little blanket with a small tent next to it.
David: "I thought that we could have dinner like a picnic and then sleep in the tent as if we were camping or something. I know it's stupid..."
I cut him off.
Liza: "I love it. Thank you."
David smiles. He leads me to sit down on the blanket. He gets out the basket of food.
David: "So we have grilled chicken, salad, and pasta. Then I also got popcorn. And for a drink we have sparkling apple juice since we are not legal drinking age."
Liza: "How long did this take you to get ready?"
David: "A few hours."
I stare at him waiting for a real answer.
David: "A day."
I keep staring at him.
David: "Ok fine. A few days."
Liza: "Babe, you didn't have to do this for me."
David: "Yes I did."
Liza: "I love you."
David: "I love you too."
Liza: "But I love food a bit more so can we eat before it gets cold?"
David laughs.
David: "Sure."
He hands me a plate with the food on it. I take a few bites.
Liza: "Did you buy this?"
David: "No. I made it."
Liza: "You're joking right?"
David shakes his head.
Liza: "It's so good! You told me that you couldn't cook or make food."
David: "I learned."
I shove more food in my face. David chuckles.
After we finish eating, we grab the popcorn and to into the tent. As soon as we get in, I see a small light hanging from the top, rose petals around the edges, blankets, and David's computer. We get under the blankets and I snuggle up to David.
Liza: "This is nice."
David: "Yeah. What do you want to watch?"
He opens up Netflix.
Liza: "Life As We Know It looks cute."
David: "Sure."
We start watching. I grab the popcorn and we both starts eating it. I feel David's arm wrap around me. I smile. When he does things like this, I feel so protected. I feel so safe. I never want to lose that feeling.
By the time the movie is over, I am crying a bit.
David: "Liza. Stop crying. I feel bad."
Liza: "No it's just a cute ending."
David: "It's just that when you cry, I feel like I did something."
Liza: "No. You are amazing."
David smiles.
David: "Are you tired?"
Liza: "No not really. It's only like 10:30."
David: "How about we lay down and talk."
Liza: "Can we cuddle?"
David chuckles.
David: "Yes of course."
We lay down and I snuggle up next to David.
Liza: "What do you want to talk about?"
David: "I don't know."
Liza: "Isn't it crazy to think that after this year, we only have one more year of high school?"
David: "Wow. Next year we will be in grade 12."
Liza: "Then after that, we have to keep learning things and learn how to adult."
David: "Yeah."
Liza: "I have a question."
David: "What is it?"
Liza: "Are we going to stop dating after high school?"
David: "Why?"
Liza: "I don't know. Most people who date in high school don't end up staying together after high school."
David kisses my forehead.
David: "We will always make it work."
I smile.
Liza: "Ok."
David: "Want to play truth or dare, or would you rather?"
Liza: "Sure. Let's play truth or dare though. You start."
David: "Ok. Truth or dare?"
Liza: "Dare."
David: "Sing something."
Liza: "I'm cringing right now but fine. Then you smiled over your shoulder, for a minute, I was stone-cold sober, I pulled you closer to my chest. And you asked me to stay over, I said, I already told ya, I think that you should get some rest. I knew I loved you then, but you'd never know, cause I played it cool when I was scared of letting go. I know I needed you, but I never showed, but I wanna stay with you until we're grey and old. Just say you won't let go, just say you won't let go. See I told you. Cringe."
David: "It's not 'cringe', it's beautiful. Like you."
Liza: "Thanks. My turn. Truth or dare?"
David: "Truth."
Liza: "Have you had a crush on any girls other than me?"
Even though the liting is dim, I can still see David blush.
David: "No."
I smile.
David: "Truth or dare?"
Liza: "Truth."
David: "What is your opinion on the end piece of bread?"
We both burst out laughing.
Liza: "What kind of question is that!"
David: "It's the first thing I thought of."
Liza: "Ok then. Umm... I would have to say that I'm not a fan, but I can tolerate it if I really want bread. My turn. Truth or dare?"
David: "Dare."
Liza: "Say the alphabet backwards in 30 seconds."
David: "Umm... Z, Y, X, V, M, N, P, K, A!"
We both laugh.
Liza: "You forgot like all of it!"
David: "I can barely the alphabet in 30 seconds the normal way! How do you expect me to do it backwards?"
After a few more rounds, we both end up getting tired. David puts his arms around me as I fall asleep.
Liza: "Good night."
David: "Good night. I love you."
Liza: "I love you too. Happy 1 year."
David: "Happy 1 year."
I feel David kiss my head. I then I fall asleep in the arms of the guy I love.
