Prologue: Welcome Back, [Name]

"[Name], get out of there, you worthless piece of shit!!"

 You shuddered and clutched your knees to your chest as you heard your father's booming voice and the sound of his fist knocking against your bedroom door.

He was drunk again.

Though it was nothing new to you, it wasn't exactly something you could get used to. You were surprised he hadn't been arrested yet for what he did to you four years ago.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
//flashback to four years ago when you were twelve//
"Thanks for the ride home Mrs. Strife!" You waved to your best friends' mom after you were out of their car.
Mrs. Strife and her boys Roxas and Ventus waved back. "No problem sweetie! See you tomorrow!
"Bye!" You watched as they drove away, then turned to face your front door. You were rummaging through your backpack for your house keys when a voice behind you made you jump.
"You're late."
You whirled around to see your father Luxord standing behind you with his arms folded across his chest and a scowl on his rugged face. A light crimson color dusted across his cheeks told you that he was more than a little tipsy.
"F-father..." You stuttered. "I'm sorry! W-we got stuck in traffic on the way here, and-!"
Your voice got stuck in your throat as a hand was clamped around your neck. You clawed at the fingers, struggling to breathe.
"You know it's no use to fight back, [Name]," Luxord seethed.
His eyes darted around warily as he realized you both were still outside; in plain view of the public. He grimaced before unlocking the door, his left hand still gripping your throat.
He shoved the door open, throwing you to the ground. You gasped as pain flooded your senses and oxygen reached your lungs yet again. You coughed and tried to inhale as much as you could until you saw Luxord standing directly above you and your heart stopped.
He was undressing.
"Let's see what happens to bad little girls, hm?" He saw that you were frozen in place and growled, kicking your head so hard that you felt your brain rattle and your vision went black.
You tried to scream but couldn't find the energy to do so. The last thing you heard before you were completely unconscious was Luxord sadly muttering,
"Well that's no fun."
You woke up after what seemed like an eternity. Well, at least you thought you woke up. You could flex your fingers and feel the cool air flowing in and out of your nose and mouth. You could hear the bed that you were on creak as you shifted your weight around. You could feel the throbbing pain in the back of your head where your father had kicked you.
But you couldn't see anything.
"Hi, [Name]," a sweet and gentle voice said. "I'm Doctor Gainsborough, and I'm just going to ask you how you are feeling."
You started shaking in fear. Were you going mad? What was going on? So you asked her the first thing that came to mind.
"Are you real?"
Her laugh was sweet and genuine, but only made you more terrified. Why was she laughing at you? Had you done something wrong? Was she going to punish you now? Give you shots?
"Oh sweetie," she said, placing her hand on yours. "I'm about as real as you are."
You voiced the question that bothered you the most. "Then why can't I see you? Why can't I see anything?"
For a split second you felt her hand on yours tense. "You can't see anything?" She repeated.
You shook your head. "Everything is black."
You heard her gasp a bit then felt her hand leave yours. You heard her stool swivel around and you guessed that she was going somewhere, possibly to get some torture device to cut off another one of your senses.
But you never heard the door open or close and instead heard her talking to someone. The only words that you could make out were your name and...
"Blind".
Now you heard the door open, and two sets of footsteps were heard as more people entered the room.
One person went to the left side of your bed, while Doctor Gainsborough swiveled back to you and took your hand again. You heard another person huff as they went by your feet.
The person on your left gently touched your arm. "Hello [Name], I'm Doctor Kanki, but you can call me Doctor V."
"Hi," you croaked.
"I'm just going to run some tests, alright? Doctor Gainsborough, please help me get [Name] into a sitting position with her legs hanging off the side facing me."
As the two doctors sat you up and turned you so you were facing Doctor V, you reached out in front of you and poked what you thought would be Doctor V's shoulder. Judging from the noise he made, you guessed that you raised your arm a bit too high.
"That was my face, [Name], and nearly my eyeball."
"Oops." You clutched your arm close to your body. "Sorry."
"It's quite alright," he said, moving your hair away from your face and sticking something plastic in your ear. You were guessing that he was doing that test where a light got shone in your ears, eyes, nose, and mouth. You never understood why they stuck it in your mouth last. "Did you need to tell me something?"
"Ask you something, actually," You said. "Who is that person at the foot of the bed?"
Doctor V chuckled lightheartedly. "I'm impressed that you noticed," he said, patting your head. "I'll tell you in a second. Right now I'll have to ask you to follow the light with your eyes."
"But-" you protested.
"Try, [Name]."
You tried. You really did. But through the nothingness before you, you couldn't see a trace of light to follow.
"I can't," you cried. "I just... Can't."
You heard the unknown person in the room scoff, and you almost lost it right then and there. Whose fault was it if you were blind? And what reason did anyone have to scoff at you?
"It's okay, [Name]," Doctor Gainsborough reassured you, reaching over the bed to rub your back in a comforting manner. "We're going to take good care of you."
"Like hell you are," the person growled.
You cringed at the sound of his voice. What was Luxord doing here? He should be in jail for his crimes! He attempted to rape you, and abused you.
Maybe… maybe he was at fault for your blindness! Up 'till now, you had had perfect 20/20 vision. But that kick that knocked you unconscious- that must've just killed your vision altogether.
You began to tremble, and both Doctor V and Doctor Gainsborough sighed. It was a bit creepy because they sighed in unison... But never mind that. They sounded quite distressed.
"Mr. [Surname]," Doctor Gainsborough muttered. "I'm going to have to ask you to leave."
"But-" your father protested.
"We allowed you to come in because you demanded to see [Name], but we're starting to regret that decision." You heard Doctor V sigh as he walked away from you and towards Luxord. "Please leave. We will call you back in when her examination is finished."
"I'm not leaving without her," Luxord seethed. "And besides, she's fine. Look at her! If she were really blind, wouldn't her eyes be milky white or some shit? Look at them! They're their normal [e/c] hue, and she was probably just lying for attention when she-"
"Mr. [Surname]," Doctor Gainsborough interrupted, her voice dangerously low. "You are being a disturbance. And this will be the last time I ask you nicely to leave. So please, Mr. [Surname], save our security from the trouble of having to rush here and restrain you- and also possibly get you arrested."
You heard Luxord scoff. "I wouldn't be arrested. She got hurt because of her own foolishness! She fell down the stairs and I-"
"Yes, this is Doctor Aerith Gainsborough in room 322 requesting security. The patient's father is-"
You cringed as you heard a door slam closed. Doctor Gainsborough sighed and you heard her swivel her way over to you.
She placed a hand on your knee. "I'm sorry dear," she said soothingly. "Doctor Kanki, all the other doctors and I will try out best to help you."
"Try". You "tried" to follow the light with your eyes. Everyday you "try" to escape your father's abusive clutches. "Try" is such a disappointing word.
"But sweetie… We must tell you one thing."
This was it. She was going to tell you what was wrong with you. But it wasn't like you didn't already know.
"Due to major blunt force trauma to your skull and brain, you have lost all of your vision." She paused, and then whispered, "And we don't know what to do."
//end flashback//
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

So that was it. The doctors didn't know how to help you, and your father took that opportunity to take you back home because he wasn't willing to let you stay there where they could keep a close eye on you and at least give you a safe haven away from this hell.

You were sixteen now, but you felt like a helpless two year old. Luxord would mess with your sense of direction so badly that you couldn't even properly map out your room after four years. You would often bang into items that he never bothered to pick up off the ground, and also walls because Luxord threw away the cane that was given to you when you first went to the hospital and never bothered to get you a new one.

"GET OUT!" Your father's yelling sent a shiver down your spine and you felt yourself fall of the bed and onto the wood flooring.

You thought you heard sirens wailing in the distance, but it was probably just your imagination. You were going mad from having to tolerate your abusive drunkard of a father for so long.

You heard more banging and you curled up into a ball. The sirens became louder, as if a police car were really approaching your house. But because your other senses were heightened due to your blindness, you didn't know whether the car was close by or your great sense of hearing was just amplifying the sound. Either way, you prayed that someone would come to your aid.

A few seconds later, you heard another loud bang, but this was coming from the front of the house. You heard people shouting and running around and in the midst of it all Luxord's curses were all you could recognize.

Your bedroom door flew open, and you gasped. Were they going to hurt you too?

"There!" You heard a female voice shout.

You sat up and shakily stood. From what you could hear, about three people were in your room, and they were armed.

"Police!" they cried. "Turn slowly and raise your hands."

"Where do you want me to turn?" You asked, slowly putting your arms up.

"Enough so that you can see us."

You almost laughed, but scoffed instead. "I'm blind," you stated.

"Are you [Name] [Surname]?" The female cop from earlier asked.

You nodded. "In the flesh."

"We're here to help. Your neighbors, the Weinberg's, reported screaming and yelling and told us that you've been a victim of your father's abuse for over ten years. Is that correct?"

You nodded again.

One of them stepped forward, and you turned to where you felt their footsteps.

"We're going to send your father to jail and you to a hospital. Any specific one you wish to go to?

"Four years ago," you started, your hands shaking slightly, "my father kicked me in the head so hard that I became blind. I remember waking up in a hospital with two very nice doctors: Doctor Aerith Gainsborough and Doctor V Kanki. I would like to be taken to their clinic, please."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You didn't remember much about what happened on the way to the hospital, or even part of what you did when you got there. All you knew now was that you were back in the same exact room as you were in four years ago: Room 322 in Building 1, which was for trauma patients.
One of the nurses- you think her name was Millie, you didn't really remember -guided you to this room and instructed that you wait here until Doctor V and Doctor Gainsborough could see you. So now you lay in a cold hospital bed that was in a room that reeked of... Whatever sterile things smelled like.
It could've been worse, but it was still pretty bad.
~~
You heard the door open and the sounds of two sets of footsteps started clacking on the smooth flooring.
"[Name] dear?" You recognized that voiced to be Doctor Gainsborough and you felt a smile creep up on your face.
"Hello Doctor Gainsborough," you greeted her.
"I'm so glad you remember me!" She said happily. "Oh, sweetie, is everything alright? How's your father? How's your eyesight? Can you-"
"Aerith, please," you heard Doctor V say, exasperated. "Give the poor girl a chance to get used to all that's happened. I understand that it's been four years since we last saw her, but we really must keep calm."
Doctor Gainsborough sighed. "I suppose you're right, but I think Ms. [Name] and I can both agree that she is no longer a girl, but a young lady! I wish you could see how beautiful you are," she muttered sadly.
You smiled. "Thank you, Doctor."
"[Name]," Doctor V said. "It's good to see you here again, and I am happy to say that you will be staying here for quite some time. We will take care of you, [Name], and I promise that we will be like a home and second family to you."
You heard Doctor Gainsborough clasp her hands together in excitement. "Speaking of family... [Name], it's time for dinner. Most of the trauma patients all hang out together. They are very close. I have no doubt that you will become great friends with them in no time."
"I will have my son and assistant Demyx escort you there," Doctor V said. "Doctor Aerith and I must be going, but Demyx will be here in a minute. Enjoy your stay here, [Name]."
Doctor V almost said that last sentence like a hotel bellhop or something.
You smiled. "Thank you, Doctor. Thank you for everything."
You heard the door close behind them and you stood, reaching for the cane that they had given you. You little to no idea how to use it, but you were sure someone would be able to teach you.
A few moments later you heard someone enter the room, and you guessed that it was Demyx coming to get you for dinner.
"Um, [Name] [Surname]?" He called out?
"Right here." You prodded his foot with your cane.
"Oh, hi there!" His voice was bright and cheery. "I'd hold my hand out for you to take, but uh... Well anyway, lets get going, shall we?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Hey, Demy's back, and he's with a girl!"

You heard someone shout from across the room and roars of laughter accompanied that one sentence.

"Damn, she's pretty!" One of the people in that group yelled, catcalling at you.

You cringed.

"Oh, fuck off, Axel! Leave the new girl alone."

Demyx stopped walking beside you, so you took it as a sign that you were at the table.

"Hey guys," Demyx greeted. "This is [Name] [Surname], and she's a new trauma patient."

"[Name]?!" You heard someone exclaim. You heard the clanking of what you guessed was silverware on the table.

That voice... Sounded so familiar.

"[Name], do you remember me?"

Suddenly the person was right in front of you. You were taken aback as you hadn't heard his footsteps.

"Chill, dude," Demyx warned. "[Name]'s blind."

"Blind..?" The person repeated.

You slowly reached out, seeking the person's hand.

He seemed to know what you were up to, and took your hand in his. "[Name]..." He muttered sadly.

"Rings..." You mumbled.

"What?" You heard another voice, Axel, say in astonishment.

"Where are your rings?" You asked.

"They don't fit anymore... I put them on a chain." The person answered. "But... Does this mean you remember?

You reached for where you thought his neck would be, and grasped the chain around his neck. You brought your hand around, lifting the twin rings to the surface of his shirt.

You started playing with one of the rings as a small smile crept its way onto your face.

"How could I forget you… Roxas?"

~*~ Alistair's Dark Corner ~*~

Yo guys, I finally got around to writing a KH/FF fanfiction. I was inspired by Toph from Avatar the Last Airbender, and was wondering what a Reader-Insert fanfic where the Reader was blind would be like. Please forgive me if I screw up on different symptoms of blindness, as I have never been associated with a blind person before >.< though my eyesight is very bad, I still can't relate to what a blind person must be feeling.

So anyways, thanks for reading ^-^ I'm trying really hard to manage both my main stories so that you guys don't have to keep waiting months for a single chapter.
