Sirius laughed to himself as he remembered their antics, things he wished he hadn’t missed the first time round, the sound blending in unnoticed with the noises of the other inmates. Not for the first time he regretted being quite as childish and arrogant as he and James had been, but found himself hard pressed to say he didn’t enjoy his time at Hogwarts.
The contrast between the warmth of his memories and the chill of his cell made him look up as he huddled further into himself to see one of the Dementors hovering outside his cell. They were always there, day and night, from autumn through to spring and back again, but in the prison it was always as cold as if it were the dead of winter, a cold which froze your insides and bleached all warmth and happiness from everything. Though immune to other effects of the Dementors not even Sirius could escape the deathly chill that pervaded everything, that reached deep down into the very soul.
