"I was thinking another Kurt one ... something like this: a mutant girl (duh) who's been at the mansion for a while gets invited back to her home for dinner with her family (sorta uptight mother, looser father who's close and a bit protective of his daughter). There's a plus: any of her 'friends' are invited. Scot and the others see this as a perfect "opportunity" for Kurt, who's developed quite the crush on the reader, to meet her parents and such. Only, on the night of the dinner, things don't quite go as planned ...."

---

Standing nervously in front of your parent's house door, you checked your hair in your reflection in the window for the third time. You were stressed out. So much so that it was beginning to rub off on Kurt who was standing next to you and who began to fiddle with his jacket.

A quick glance at him and you realized he almost looked scared. It made you feel bad. He was probably thinking you did not want him to meet your parents, that you were ashamed of him. Which could not have been more wrong.

In fact, it's was your parents you were ashamed of. And more particularly of the way they were surely going to treat Kurt.

When you had asked your friends who wanted to come for dinner at your house, you had not really known who would accept, but you would have most likely bet on Jean.

But, when everybody started to say they had something else planned, you had started to freak out. You could not go there alone. Kurt had saved your life then, offering to accompany you with a shy smile.

It had made your heart flutter in your chest at the thought that he was willing to meet your parents, but then you had remembered how much your mother hated mutants and how religious she was and how her and Kurt in the same room was sure to turn into a disaster.

You had still brought him with you though, mainly because you could not say no in spending an entire evening with him, even if you had to see your parents too.

Thinking about that, you turned your head to look at Kurt and smiled at him warmly, trying to relax and make him relax. He smiled back, his fangs poking slightly, and you warned him, trying not to seem too grim:

"You should know that my parents... Well, my mother mostly, she's not very into mutant. So, don't take it too personally if, when she sees you, she reacts-", you frowned, trying to come up with an adjective that was not too depressing, "-badly."

Badly was an understatement, but he did not need to know that.

Kurt nodded before squeezing harder the bouquet of flowers he was holding in his hands. His smile was frozen on his face and he seemed about to throw up. Knowing Kurt you figured he really wanted to make a good first impression on your parents and your words had not comforted him at all.

Biting your lips guiltily, you brushed your hand against his arm in an attempt to make him relax before knocking on the door.

---

A heavy silence was stretching on between the four of you. Sitting in front of your mother at the dinner table, you were staring at your plate desperately. Kurt, to your left, was chewing on his steak while moving his tail nervously behind him. Your father, in front of him, was staring at him curiously.

You would have taken the interest of your father for Kurt as a good sign if your mother was not looking at him with fear and disgust in his eyes, but the worst was that every time Kurt would do something like talk or look at her or even use his napkin, she would grimace and touch the golden cross she was wearing as a necklace around her neck.

At least, your father had prevented her from throwing away the flowers Kurt had kindly brought and he had put them in a vase in the middle of the table, making Kurt grin happily, at least at the beginning of the dinner.

You were now reaching dessert and no one had talked for at least five minutes. You were angry against your mother for behaving like that and sorry for Kurt who had to live through that.

It was at this moment that your older brother came down from his bedroom to say goodbye to your parents, dressed for a party. He entered the living room smiling and greeted Kurt warmly, making your lips curled, grateful for his behavior. But then, when he shook Kurt's hand, he said something you wished he had not:

"Damn, big fingers huh! I hope you know how to use them, for my little sister's sake."

He finished his innuendo on a wink in Kurt's direction and you glanced at your father while blushing furiously. He was staring at your brother disapprovingly.

"Ves, I do. It's not really zhat hard, but I don't...-" Kurt scratched the back of his neck nervously, his amber eyes falling on you, before flying back on your brother. "-don't see how it vould affect (Y/N). I mean, I'll vould never-- hurt her."

The look of incredulity on your brother's face was priceless. The innuendo was definitively lost on Kurt. A smile finally curled on his lips and you heard your father laugh at Kurt's innocence before saying:

"You heard the boy, now leave son."

The use of boy from your father made you smile. In your mind, it was the best compliment he could have made him.

You brother started to protest: "Don't do this to me! I've got plenty more!" His eyes stared at Kurt for a second before saying with an obvious tone: "He has a tail."

Your father was still laughing and you started to smile at the situation. Kurt, though, had no idea what was going on, but he felt relieved when he felt the tension being lifted, allowing himself to smile Your mother though, was not having any of it. Angrily, she rose on her feet and threw her napkin on her plate:

"I'm not going to pretend this is okay anymore." She shouted, looking harshly at Kurt when she said this. Your brother stopped protesting and your father rose as well, trying to calm your mother.

You were shocked by her behavior; you had not expected her to say something like that. Even less with such a hateful tone.

Glancing at Kurt, you saw the look of fear, confusion and pain on his face. Shaking your head angrily, you took his hand in yours and stood up. Kurt looked at you, startled, before getting up as well.

Your parents' gaze fell on you immediately and when your mother noticed your joined hands the look of disgust on her face made you snap at her:

"I won't let you insult him!" You shouted at her, making your brother curse, shocked. "I can't believe how badly you have treated him tonight. Kurt is the sweetest boy you'll ever meet, he didn't do anything to deserve this treatment. And frankly, when I see your behavior, I feel so-" You stopped. You did not even know. Sad? Angry? Hurt? All of the above? Instead, you opted for the choice that was sure to hurt your mother the most. "-Ashamed."

You saw her jaw drop. You knew what she was thinking.

You're ashamed of us? Have you seen the mutant next to you?

You did not bother to wait for her answer and left the table, dragging Kurt behind you. Storming out of the house, you walked for a few minutes before realizing Kurt was not with you anymore. Tears streaming down your face, you turned around, trying to find your friend in the dark of night. He appeared next to you a few seconds later, carrying your coat and you thanked him, not realizing how cold it was until then. He helped you put in on like a perfect gentleman before sitting next to you on the edge of a sidewalk a few blocks away from your house.

You remained silent for a very long time, processing the awful evening you had went through. You felt Kurt's eyes on you a few times, but he did not say anything.

After another full minute of silence, you were finally able to whisper: "I'm sorry, Kurt."

His response was fast. "It's not your fault." Kurt whispered, meeting your eyes. A shy smile appeared on his lips. "Zhank you for your kind vords earlier."

It was as if you had been stabbed in the chest. He was thanking you? After the evening you had made him live? He really was the purest person in the world.

Unable of holding it any longer, you started to sob uncontrollably. "I'm so sorry, Kurt." Your voice breaking, you whispered: "Please, forgive me."

A crying mess, you wrapped your arms around his neck and pulled him to you. You glimpsed his sad expression in the process and so burying your face in his neck, you repeated: "I'm sorry."

Kurt wrapped his arms around your back and held you close, whispering in your ear in an attempt to comfort you: "Don't, please. Stop crying, Schätzchen." He was running his hand up and down your back, trying to soothe you. "It's not your fault. I'll never blame you."

He kept saying comforting things in your ear for as long as you cried on his shoulder and when finally your sobbing stopped, you were a mess. Your eyes red and your nose running, you faced him. His eyes were searching for yours, a look of concern on his blue face.

Lowering your head, you blew your nose before locking eyes with him. You were ashamed of your behavior; he was the one who had been treated badly and you were the one crying and getting comforted.

"Are you okay, (Y/N)?" He asked gently, his tail wrapped around your waist keeping you close to his chest.

"Are you?"

He nodded, smiling faintly and you smiled back, or at least tried.

"At least, my dad likes you." Kurt seemed genuinely surprised by your words and you explained: "Your innocence at least."

Kurt frowned, unsure of what it meant and if either or not it was a good thing.

"And for my mom? Who cares." You snickered nervously before regaining your composure. "Everything she hates about you is the very things that make me love you."

You sniffed before taking his warm hand in yours, emphasizing your words.

Kurt was looking at you confusingly. Did he hear your words well? Did you really mean it? Love?

"I- I love you too." He whispered, surprised by his own boldness.

He looked at you carefully, not wanting to miss your reaction to his words and hoping you would greet them with the same happiness he greeted yours. When your lips curled up and you moved forward, he felt it. A sudden surge of happiness and love bursting into him and awakening all of his senses.

Moving his head forward to meet yours, he could not help but mumble: "I've never kissed anyone before."

You smiled at him. "Me neither."

Kurt felt relieved. Raising his hand to your cheek, he crossed the last inches separating your two faces with such desire and joy, he totally forgot about the disastrous meal that had occurred before. You were the only one he cared about. The love of his life. And the only thing that mattered in this moment was to make your fist kiss the most perfect kiss you would ever had.
