Chapter 18
Neveah's Pov
I waited siting on the bed, without switching on the light. I was afraid that Ma would some how come to know, since had no experience in this kind of thing. I was almost asleep when I heard a knock on the window.
I got up and went near the window. My eyes went the size of saucers as I looked at Ryder hanging from the tree branch near my window. How? I opened the window and said, "Get away from the tree Ryder, you are gonna break it." The tree was at least twice his age and I don't think the tree can handle his weight.
"So you are more worried about the tree rather about me?" He asked in his usual happy tone.
I narrowed my eyes and replied in a bitchy tone, "Obviously I am not worried about you, you are a dog, it is just a poor tree."
Ryder's eyes widened and he gave me a questioning glance. I just nodded."It is called a werewolf. not a dog. " He corrected me.
"Same thing."
"No, it is not. Now get away from the window and let me get inside." Ryder was back to his happy self again.
I just sighed and got away. I made him sit on the bed and switched on the samll light near the bed. I sat down near him on the bed.
"So, neveah why did you call me at this time of the night?" I sighed again and narrated to him the whole series of incidents that occured today. By the end of it, Ryder was laughing on the floor. I frowned, this was not funny. This was my life story. Well not mine, but his actually.
"It is not funny Ryder. He was a five year old child." I just couldn't fathom that how he can find my situation hilarious. I glared at him and he stopped laughing.
"You mean you have not seen an adult wolf?" Ryder asked suddenly. What did he mean by that? Was it important?
"No?" It was more a question than an answer.
"No wonder, I want to know your reaction when you see one. That is if you are concious after that." Again he was on the werge of laughing. I swear if ge starts laughing, I'm killing him.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"He means nothing." I heard a voice from my window.
"What are you doing here Xavier?" He was hanging from my window, what an improvement. At least the tree would be safe.
"Easton doesn't want you with him in your bedroom." Xavier said with the most serious voice possible. Seriously?
"And why do you think I care what Easton thinks?" Easton is the sole cause for all this. I was happy in my very normal world. And now I was cursing my brain as to why did I go to him asking for an explanation. Now, here I was, worried about a world that was not even mine.
"You should, you are living in his area." Xavier replied with a frown on his face. "This are belongs to the government, not him." Dumb guy. Did he not know this also? Area belongs to Easton, my foot.
"Actually not, this area does belong to him." Ryder spoke up from my bed on which he was currently laying on.
"Really?"
"Ya, it does belong,.." I cut him out, "I understood the first time, it was just and expression Ryder and stop irritating me."
He held up his hands in surrender. "Did you really run behind a five year old and couldn't keep up with him." Him and Xavier snickered together and did an air hi-five.
"Shut up." I gritted through my teeth. I really, really wanted to shout but if I did, Ma and Easton along the people in the nearby houses will wake up.
He and Xavier snickered again. "Out, get out and Xavier don't you hang from my window again." Now I was pissed.
"Oh, come on I was joking." Ryder tried to calm me down but right now, I was tired of them.
"Get out Ryder and just leave my window alone Xavier."
"Alright, alright we'll leave." Ryder said goodnight and left through the window with Xavier.
I switched off the light and lay on the bed, too bored to be asleep. My room door opened. I immediealty closed my eyes and pretended to be asleep. The person switched on the light. I felt the bedsheet on me. Then a kiss on my forehead.
"Good night Nev. You are the beat thing that has happened to me beside your mother that is. " Brian.
"You know she can't hear you, right?" Ma's soft voice vibrated through the room.
"Doesn't matter. She will know in her subconcious mind." I heard Ma's soft laughter the next.
"Stupid man. Let Neveah sleep." Brian pressed his lips again to my forehead and left the room with Ma.
I opened my eyes after they left.For the first time, I was happy that I don't know my father. I slept with a smile on my face after that.
Next day, I wasn't really in the mood to go to school. But then I got a text early at six in the morning.

Easton Dale
Now, I have no option but to go. Anyway, I was kind of eager to know about wolf-men or whatever they call themselves.
I behaved very properly with all of them. I behaved as if Xavier did not hang from my window last night. Not friendly, but cordial. I sat with Melissa and Georgy during lunch. Suffice to say, it was uncomfortable. I was pushing through my food when Georgy spoke up,"Hey, how is your friend?"
"You mean Ryder?"
"Yup."
"Why are you asking about him?" I was still suspicious about his origin. I wasn't sure if he was a werewolf. I am sure Melissa and Alden are.
"Because I saw both of them leave from your house in the middle of the night and by them I mean, Ryder and Xavier." Oh, thank God. He didn't see Xavier hanging from my window. If he saw, others would have seen it too. What if someone sees it and informs Ma? That will be the last thing I want to add to my long list of worries and confusion.
"What were you doing at such a time in front of my house?"
"Simply passing through it." I nodded but I wasn't fully convinced by the way he said it and Mellisa looking at Georgy.
"Oh, okay. Me and Ryder were having a party which our dear friend Xavier gatecrashed." I didn't mean the statement to come out in a bad or sarcasric way, but I couldn't help myself.
"Can I ask you something?" I asked Ryder, I was hesitant, scared of the reaction.
"Sure." He too seemed wary but allowed me.
"Are you a...., I mean one of them?" It was so pathetic, I couldn't even say the word Werewolf. There was still some part of me which didn't believe this. Hoping it to be a bad dream.
'You mean a werewolf?"
"Yeah."
"No, no I am just a plane ole human." Okay... now I was confused and relieved. If he was human, how does he know about them. Wasn't it against the rules or something?
"Then how do you...?" I was very curious.
"Sometime later. We can speak after you and Easton speak. We have a lot to discuss." His tone marked the end of discussion. "Okay, alright." I also agreed. We sure do have a lot to talk about.
"We can meet at my home. My brother and parents are both out of town."
"Deal."
By the time I had reached the ground, Easton was already there. He looked tired and irritated, so I decided that it would be for the best if I keep my mouth shut.
"Should we," I started but was rudely interrupted. "What was he doing at your house at eleven thirty in the night?" How does he?
Xavier.
I am going to kill him one day.
"Making fun of me along with Xavier, happy?" I too replied in a rude tone.
"I didn't mean it like that Neveah. We... we can be unstable sometimes, I was just scared." He is the werewolf and I am the human and he says that he is scared. Talk about being wierd!
"You are just like him." I said reffering to Ryder. i should be more scared of the fact that Xavier was at my house rather that Ryder. For God's sake, I grew up with him. He surely won't kill me.
"I've never been alone with you in your house." Easton contradicted.
"Oh, you have been alone with me. Ma caught us, I mean you messing with me in the kitchen." I said reffering to that sad time. Stupid guy trying to get me in trouble!
"Oh, yeah but you kissed me."
"It was a silly dare Easton." I consoled him, didn't want him to even think about it, one of my most embaressing moments.
"It was hot." He had a dreamy look in his eyes.
"I'm surprised that you actually remember it." I scoffed. Everyone knows about his past. I am sure that he isn't even thinking about me.
"Now, you're judging me Neveah." Easton looked sad by my statement. I uttered a quiet,"Sorry."
"Its alright, come lets go somewhere."
"Where?" I have to go to Georgy's house too, not to forget the project. I just can't have Easton failing.
"Somewhere. I can't talk in public." Oh!
"Alright." We reached the forest near his and Xavier's house. We walked for some time. I then sat on the grass. He was walking ahead without realising that I was not with me.
"Eugene!" He turned sideways and said, "Don't call me that." He then realised that I was not beside him. The expression on his face had me laughing and clapping my hands.
"When did you reach there?"
"We passed the place Easton." He sighed and came and sat on the ground in front of me.
"So, you can ask any questions you want but before that I want to ask one question. Are you scared of me?"
"Truthfully, I don't know. I just don't know." I tried to explain doing weird gestures with my hands. "You know, sometimes things are beyond control. I like to be in control and this...... this is beyond me. I just don't understand and to answer your question, yesterday I was scared. Scared out of my life. But when I saw you in school, I realised that you are the guy who has hated since we've met. I mean, you are just Easton Eugene Dale." I ended with a smile in my face.
He mirrored my smile with his own. "I never hated you."
"I just narrowed my eyes as if asking 'really'?
"Someday, I'll tell you a story."
"Whatever." I shrugged.
Suddenly I heard growling.
"You'll do that in day too?" I mean wasn't it dangerous to the normal inhabitants. And to think that Ma used to bring me here years ago.
"Yup."
"Can I see one?" I asked, remembering Ryder's and Xavier's taunt. I wanted to prove a point right now.
"What, a werewolf?"
"Uhuh."
"But why?"
"Because Xavier and Ryder were making fun of me saying that I will react in a very bad way if I saw one. So please let me see." I was practically begging. "Please, pretty please."
"I think that both of them were correct." Easton said in a slow voice, probably not to anger me. "Of course I can handle it, I am not that weak, " I growled, well not really.
"I am saying that you are weak, but facing a wild animal, not only a wolf but any animal is scary. " Well, this statement was constructed in a better way.
"Alright." The growls increased and at somepoint my curiosity increased. I forgot all the question I had to ask when I saw one tail behind the bushes. I stood up and walked there. Easton too followed me muttering stubborn under his breath.
I walked towards the bush and heard similar sounds from yesterday. I went near and saw a man turning into human, man, he was hot! I strained myself to see more of him but Ryder wasn't allowing me.
I tried to move forward but Easton arms were restraining me. "Hey, let me see, I wanna watch!" I whined to Easton hoping he would comply. But all I got was growls behind me. "Oh come on East, stop growling."
I was watching only the muscles of the guy. He was atleast ten years elder to me, I am sure of that. A pair of hands placed themselves on my eyes. "Enough."
"But Easto..." He cut me in between and his voice was deeper, sharper, "I said enough."
I took his hnads off my eyes and turned to him, "what is your problem?"
"You looking at some other male."
"I will look at whom I like and there is nothing you can do about it." His growls turned more violent and within a split second, a huge wolf was standing in place of Easton.
