EPISODE #126 IN FANFIC

Janice still looks unsure of what to do

Richard - Jan love, whatever's the matter. You look like you've seen a ghost!
Janice - No, not a ghost dear, just Bea Smith
Richard - Huh?
Janice points over to where Bea and Chloe are walking ahead of them, still oblivious to their presence
Richard looks shocked

Its daytime in Australia and the women are in the Recroom
They seem in high spirits
Judy and Sasha are sitting together
Judy - Well that was quite an impressive fireworks display last night eh gals!
The women all seem to agree
Sasha - I feel we should try and find a way to thank Mr Moran, he has been very kind to us over Christmas and new year, very few prison governors would be this good to us
Judy - I agree love, just not sure what we can really do for him though

Vera knocks on Cassie's bedroom door
Vera - Cassie come on, it's time to get up! I won't have you lying around in bed all day, you need to look for a job again today!
All is silent in Cassie's room
Vera knocks again
Vera - Cassie come on get up now!
Still nothing
Vera loses patience and enters the room looking irate
Vera - Just because you had another wild night last night don't think it means you can...
Vera stops in her tracks
The room is empty and the bed unslept in
Vera looks concerned

Back in London Richard looks at Bea and Chloe in shock
Richard - Bloody small world isn't it, I never in a million years expected to see them here
Janice - Yes, just what we need isn't it
Richard - What are we going to do about it?
Janice - I'm not sure yet
Richard - I suppose we can't really ignore the fact we've seen them can we?
Janice - I think we should follow them and see where they go
Richard - And then what?
Janice - I don't know yet, I will decide when we get there. Come on, let's make sure we don't lose them and try not to let them see us if we can

At Wentworth Vera and Bob are in the staff room
Vera - Any news on Tone?
Bob - Yes I got an update from the hospital this morning, she is on the mend now. No real harm was done
Vera - Well that's a relief, I was worried about her. Still proves what a feral animal Winter is. They really need to catch her soon, scum like her shouldn't be free to roam among decent people
Bob - I don't expect her to stay out for long, they rarely ever do. She'll be caught and be back here soon enough
Vera - If you ask me she should go to Black...
Vera pauses with an embarrassed smile
Vera - I keep forgetting
Bob smiles too
Bob - You're not the only one, I catch myself forgetting for a moment too sometimes
Vera - I find it hard to get my head around the idea that they are going to turn Wentworth into a super-prison
Bob - Yes, I am struggling with it too, but I think we will just have to get used to it because it's going to happen whether we like it or not
Vera sips her coffee and looks troubled
Bob - Is everything ok Vera? I can't help noticing you seem to have something on your mind
Vera smiles
Vera - It's nothing really, it's just that Cassie didn't come home last night. She went out to celebrate the new year and I can't help but worry. But I'm sure she's fine

Charing Cross London Underground station
The platform is packed with people
Janice and Richard are watching Bea and Chloe from a little distance away
Richard - How are we going to manage to follow them in this crowd without losing them or being seen by them? This is going to be difficult
Janice - The crowd will assist us in avoiding being spotted by them. As for avoiding losing them, that's down to us and making sure we keep alert
A tube train pulls into the station and the doors open
The crowds begin to pack into the carriage
Bea and Chloe enter and Janice and Richard follow, keeping a safe distance away

Inspector Grace is with a rough-looking Woman in a house. They are gathered in the kitchen
Two uniformed officers can be seen searching the house
The woman - I told ya he ain't ere didn't i
Grace- Forgive me if I don't take your word for it won't you Mrs Hamilton!
The two officers arrive in the kitchen and Grace gives them an inquisitive look
They shake their heads
Officer- He isn't here Sir
Mrs Hamilton - Told ya didn't I!
Grace - Where is he then? He might not be here but you know where he is right? You've hidden him, right?
Mrs Hamilton - No I haven't, I have no clue where he could be!
Grace - Don't give me that Mrs Hamilton! I wouldn't put it past you to be protecting him, after all, he is your son
Mrs Hamilton is in tears
Mrs Hamilton - Inspector I have no idea where he is really, he never came home last night
Grace- Maybe Mr Hamilton knows where he is?
Mrs. Hamilton - No I am sure he has no idea either!
Grace - If I find out you're lying there will be serious consequences
Mrs.  Hamilton - I am not lying damn it!......but anyway I don't believe for one second that my little angel Aaron did what you're saying he did!
Grace- There were witnesses!
Mrs Hamilton - Well they are mistaken, my sweet boy would never stab no one!
Grace - Perhaps you can help us with one thing at least. Please identify the girl he was with for us.
Mrs Hamilton - Well the girl he went out with last night was his girlfriend Cassie. Of course, I have no idea if that is the same girl he was with when someone else stabbed the lad. In any case, they are both innocent
Grace- Her second name, please?
Mrs Hamilton looks thoughtful
Mrs Hamilton - I think her second name is Mcdougal or McDonald, definitely Mc something!
Grace - Cassie McDonald, yes I know her! Well, she has stepped up in the world from petty offenses to the accomplice in a brutal murder!
Mrs Hamilton - Nonsense, she is a sweet girl. As I told you they are both innocent

Bea and Chloe get off the tube at Clapham Common
Janice and Richard follow them

Eileen is alone in her home when the phone rings
Reluctantly she answers it
Eileen - Hello?
There is no answer
Eileen looks irritated
Eileen - Look Ted I know it's you! You may as well quit playing childish games at once!
It is indeed Ted on the other end
Ted - I am annoyed that I failed to kill you last night, I will try again you can be sure of it!
Eileen - You will regret what you did, no one tries to kill me and gets away with it
Ted - Next time I try I will succeed!
Eileen - You will not succeed!
Ted - Yes I will!
Eileen - You will not because you shan't get a chance. I will see to it that you pay the price for what you did to me and that will be the end of it
Ted sneers down the phone
Ted - And just what the hell do you think you can do to me you murdering bitch?
Eileen - You'll find out
Eileen hangs up

Bea and Chloe walk the dark streets of Clapham Common. Now it is deathly quiet away from the hustle and bustle of the crowds earlier
Bea - Did you enjoy yourself tonight love?
Chloe - Oh yes Nan, I had a wonderful night
Bea - I told you everything would be ok didn't I? The future will be bright and happy for us both and we will never be apart again
Chloe looks happy but then sad
Chloe - I know and I am happy but I still miss mum and dad
Bea looks sad too
Bea- I know darling if I could bring them back I would. They were good people, they didn't deserve what happened to them
They arrive by a block of flats
Bea - I am glad to be home, at last, I could murder a hot drink and a comfy chair. Let's get in from the cold!
They go inside
Janice and Richard are watching from the shadows
They see as a light goes on in one of the first-floor flats
Bea and Chloe can be seen in the lounge room
Bea arrives by the curtains and pulls them closed
Richard - Now you tell me what we do now Jan? We've followed them all this way in the middle of the night. We are miles from our hotel and we won't be able to get a tube back now and I am freezing out here. So what's next?
Janice looks unsure

Inside the flat, Bea switches the kettle on
Bea - After we've had our drinks we should think about going to bed, it's nearly 1 am
Chloe - I don't feel sleepy Nan! Can't we stay up a bit longer?
Bea- And do what? We can't make too much noise, we have to think of the neighbours, I don't want to do anything to upset them
Chloe - We can play a board game or something I dunno. I just don't feel sleepy, I am wide awake

The Laundry
The women are at work, with Ros on the press again. They have the radio on as Vera arrives in the room
Ros - How is Officer Williams today Miss Bennett?
Vera - Why do you lot want to pretend to care?
Ros -We aren't pretending, we really do care. We all like Officer Williams and we think that what Marie did to her was flaming disgusting, right girls?
They all agree
Vera - Yes well if you honestly want to know I'll tell you, she is recovering well
Ros - What a relief!
Vera - If any of you know where that animal is you should tell us now
Ros - We have no idea I swear Miss Bennett. Marie would hardly tell any of us where she was planning to go
Vera - She is a savage beast and I hope they recapture her soon!
Ros - And we all agree entirely Miss Bennett!
The song on the radio, a Kylie Minogue song, ends

Radio announcer - Can't beat a bit of Kylie! Now for the news.....

Vera - And why do you have the radio on ladies?
Ros - No harm is there surely?
Vera - I believe it is nothing but a distraction! I will switch it off now!
Vera goes to switch it off as the women protest in anger
Vera - QUIET THE LOT OF YOU!
Vera carries on walking toward the radio

Radio announcer - ....police are hunting for a young couple who they have reason to believe were responsible for the fatal stabbing of a 21-year-old male outside a nightclub last night when New year celebrations ended in tragedy. The couple, a male and a female, are believed to be white with previous convictions. Their names are Aaron Hamilton and Cassie McDonald

Vera has just put her arm out to switch it off as she hears the names. She freezes in horror
Everyone in the laundry looks stunned. They stand in silence looking at Vera
Vera just stands there in shock
Ros eventually approaches sheepishly
Ros - Miss Bennett...Miss Bennett, are you alright?
Vera - What?
Ros - Are you alright?
Vera shakes her head
Vera - No....no I don't think I am really
Ros - We all heard what he said about Cassie
Vera shakes her head more still and is obviously distressed
Vera - Yes well I am sure they have made a mistake, a dreadful mistake. You lot should know how incompetent the police can be more than I do, I bet it's that fool Grace running the investigation! Cocking it all up as usual!
Vera looks around at the women
Vera - It was all a mistake, you'll see...and now you'd best get on with the work
Vera leaves the room
The women all exchange looks

Bea and Chloe are sitting down drinking hot drinks and playing scrabble
Bea - Getting tired yet?
Chloe - No Nan, not yet. Still wide awake!
Suddenly the doorbell goes, startling them both
They both seem on guard immediately
Bea - Who the hell could it be this time of the night?
Chloe - You don't think it's....well you know, the cops?
Bea - God I hope not
Chloe - What are we going to do?
The doorbell goes again
Janice calls out from outside the door
Janice - Come on Smith open up, I know you're in there
Bea looks shocked
Bea -- Flaming hell, it's that bitch Janice Raymond, what the hell is she doing here?
Chloe - You know who it is?
Bea - Yes I know her alright. What I don't know is how she tracked us down here. I knew the bitch was smart but not that smart. She has come to ruin everything no doubt
Janice is losing patience outside
Janice - COME ON SMITH, OPEN UP NOW. I'M LOSING PATIENCE HERE!
Bea looks panicked
Bea - Oh god, I don't know what to do!
Chloe - I think we have to let her in Nan, what other choice do we have? She isn't going to go away is she

GATESLAM
PART 2

Bea opens the door to Janice and Richard
Janice - About time Smith, I was starting to think I would have to get Richard to break the door in!
Bea looks at Richard in surprise
Bea - You're here too?
Janice - Going to invite us in then or not?
Bea - Come in...
They go inside

Vera wonders a corridor, seeming to be in some kind of trance, as Marina arrives along the corridor
Marina - G'day Miss Bennett, how are you today?
Vera carries on as if she hasn't seen or heard Marina
Marina - Are you ok Miss Bennett?
Vera carries on in her trance-like state
Marina stares at her as she walks along
Marina - Speak to yourself then why don't you Marina!
Vera bumps into Vern further along the corridor
Vern - I have been looking for you Miss Bennett, you are wanted in the governor's office
Vera stares blankly at Vern
Vern - Come on, I'll take you there shall I?
Vera - Cassie....he wants to see me about Cassie right?
Vern - Let's just go to the office shall we, come on
Vern guides Vera along

Janice makes herself comfortable in a chair
Janice - Richard and I could murder a coffee, right Rich?
Richard looks deeply awkward at the situation
Bea - Forget about coffee, I want to know how you found us here. Did you hire a private detective?
Janice laughs
Janice - Get a grip, Smith, I'm not that interested in you!
Bea - Then how did you find us?
Janice - Richard and I are over here on our honeymoon. this is just a coincidence and yet another example of what a small world we live in
Bea looks at Richard and gives him a sorrowful look
Bea - So you actually married her then? You poor man! Surely you weren't that desperate, were you? There are plenty of women you could have picked!
Janice - I wouldn't start being cocky if I were you, Smith, you're not really in a position to be right now
Bea - Let me guess, you are either going to blackmail me or turn me in?
Richard looks almost offended
Richard - I am certainly not going to be blackmailing you, Smith, it's not the sort of behavior I engage in!
Bea - You maybe not but you're new wife would
Janice - I'm not here to blackmail you, Smith
Bea - You're going to turn me in then? If you want to do it I am not going to fight you or run. I promised Chloe that we wouldn't live a life on the run, it's not fair on her. I told her that either we made this work here or it doesn't work and I go back to prison, no other option. No running away again So if that's what you want to do then you win
Janice - The fact is I haven't decided what to do yet Smith. that's why I am here talking to you now. I could easily have called the police right away and they would have been here by now

Vern guides Vera into the office where Bob is waiting. He has Grace with him
Bob - Vera, the inspector needs to talk to you, I'm afraid something serious has happened
Vera - Yes...yes, I know. I heard it on the radio
Grace - Take a seat, Miss Bennett
Vera - No thank you, I'm alright standing
Grace- Suit yourself...now I need to ask you about Cassie...
Vera suddenly snaps in a rage
Vera - I KNEW YOU'D BE INVOLVED YOU INCOMPETENT, LAZY, CORRUPT FOOL! WELL,  YOU'VE GOT THE WRONG SUSPECTS YET AGAIN INSPECTOR! YET AGAIN YOU'RE A PATHETIC DISGRACE AND A FAILURE
Grace puffs on a cigarette and ignores Vera's outburst
Grace- Do you know where she is? We need to find her and Hamilton and question them
Vera - She was home all night with me last night, she couldn't have done it see!
Grace - Come on now Miss Bennett, I wouldn't recommend giving false information when we are dealing with a murder
Vera - Well it's not false, is it? It's the truth and you got it all wrong once again!
Grace- I don't think so somehow. Really I would advise you to co-operate with me at once. If you know where she might be I need to know
Vera is fighting back tears
Vera - She didn't do it alright! She couldn't have been involved!
Grace snaps
Grace - STOP WASTING MY TIME AND TELL ME IF YOU KNOW ANYTHING VERA!
Vera - GET STUFFED GRACE!
Bob - Let's all just calm down here shall we?
Grace softens a bit
Grace- Look, Miss Bennett, I understand she is your daughter and I understand this is distressing for you. But we really need to find her, apart from anything else she could be in danger if Hamilton decides to hurt her too
Vera shakes her head in distress
Vera - I don't know where she is, she never came home last night
Grace - And do you know where she went last night?
Vera - Just out with the boy to see in the new year, that's all I know. I told her to be careful, don't do anything foolish, I told her, I warned her...
Vera is in tears and Bob jumps out of his chair to comfort her
Vera - I knew that boy was trouble, I knew it from the start!

Janice walks around the flat, examining the place
Janice- Not a bad little flat is it
Bea - it works for us for sure
Janice - Tell me what sort of life you're both having. I need to know that Chloe is safe and happy here before I make my decision
Bea - I am working as a hairdresser. the money is not great but it's enough to get by on and Chloe is attending a local school. She has made friends and is doing well there
Janice - How did you manage all this and avoid detection?
Bea - We have new identities. I also have some friends here who are helping me out. There is no reason why Chloe and I can't settle here and have a happy life, it's really down to you now whether that happens or not
Janice - You're an escaped criminal and one I was never friends with, why should I do you such a huge favor now? Especially when I could be in trouble if anyone ever found out
Bea - How would anyone find out, if you don't tell anyone I certainly won't
Janice - But again I must ask why should I do you any favors.
Bea - It wouldn't be me you'd be doing it for, it would be Chloe
Janice looks at Chloe
Chloe has been sitting head bowed, looking agitated

Bob is in the staff room with Vera
Vera - I knew something like this would happen
Bob - We don't know for sure that Cassie was involved in anything yet, it could be a mistake
Vera shakes her head
Vera - It's not a mistake, I wanted to believe it was but I know it isn't. My gut feeling is telling me. Truth be told I had a bad feeling when I found out her bed hadn't been slept in, I knew then that something bad had happened, I just knew. I always had a bad feeling about the boy!
Bob - If you feel you'd rather go home then we can cover for you
Vera - No what would be the point of that? I will carry on with my shift, nothing else I can do. But I expect the silly girl will be back here soon enough, she has messed it all up the stupid cow!
Bob - We don't know the full story yet Vera. Why don't we wait until we hear her side of it before we judge her?
Vera - Oh yes, I'm sure she will be full of the usual excuses, this lot always are aren't they? Well, you can listen to her excuses if you like but I certainly won't be wasting my time doing so!
Vera gets up and marches out of the room

Janice smiles a Chloe
Janice - Talk to me, tell me your feelings on all this
Chloe has a pleading look on her face as she talks to Janice
Chloe - I want you to go away and let us be happy here, please don't turn Nan in I am begging you. We are happy here and making a good life. I don't want my nan to go back to prison, I don't want to be apart from her. She's all I have now after I lost my mummy Thelma and daddy Donald
Janice - Are you sure this is how you really feel? If it isn't you can tell me. don't be afraid. I can help you if you need it
Chloe - The only help we need is if you pretend you never saw us. Please...I know you don't like my Nan much, that's obvious to see, but do it for me. I am asking you please, just go and pretend you never saw us
Janice turns to Richard
Janice - What do you think we should do? You're involved in this too
Richard looks at Chloe and then at Bea
Both of them look desperate

Geoff is in the visitor's room with a man

Geoff - Did you find out the information I wanted you to find out for me?

The man - Of course, I did Geoff
Geoff - Nice one pal!
The man slips Geoff a piece of paper
The man - Everything you need to know is on that piece of paper
Geoff studies it with delight
Geoff - Thanks mate. I am grateful for your help
The man - Well you owe me a favor now Geoff
Geoff - Of course, mate, I know that and I will be happy to do you one. Just holla when you want it

Richard speaks
Richard - let's just go Jan, let them have their new life here. It's a new year, a new start for us two, lets show some compassion and let them have a new start too
Janice still looks a little unsure
Janice - I don't know...
She looks at Chloe
Chloe - Please...
Janice looks at Richard again
Janice - Can we really walk away and pretend we never saw them?
Richard nods his head
Richard - Yes Jan, we can. Like I say new year, new start
Janice stands up
Janice - Ok Smith, we won't turn you in
Bea - Thank you...
Janice - I'm doing it for Chloe, not for you. I can see she is happy and she deserves a fresh start after what Clements did to her parents. Just try and make a go of it will you
Bea - Yes absolutely
Janice - Come on then Richard, let's go
Bea - How will you get back to where you need to be this time in the morning?
Janice - I'm sure we can catch a night bus. Anyway I could use a walk
Janice looks at Chloe
Janice - Good luck love! I'm glad to see you happy after what you went through
Chloe - Thanks...and thank you for not turning us in
Janice smiles kindly
Janice - I'm not a monster despite what some people might think

Marina is seeing Geoff back from his visit
Marina - Well whoever your visitor was they certainly put a smile on your face
Geoff - Yes, they gave me some fantastic news
Marina (sarcastic) - Oh nice
Geoff - I would like to see Mr Moran as soon as possible, please
Marina - I will put your request to him
Geoff - Please tell him that it is urgent. I would like to see him today if possible
Marina - And as I say, Butler, I will pass on your request
Geoff - I was thinking today, it's a crying shame that our sweet little partnership had to end. I think we had a good little thing going there personally
Marina - Well I did give you a choice at the time, I told you I wanted those men to stop the protest, you chose the option that meant the end of the partnership and that's the end of it, no going back now. I never forgive once I have been wronged in any way

Janice and Richard are walking in the night
Janice - I do hope we're doing the right thing by not informing the police
Richard - I think we are. You saw how happy it made that young girl
Janice - Yes I did
They both smile

Bea and Chloe are sitting down as Bea pours herself a whisky
Chloe - Do you think they really will leave us be and not report us?
Bea - I don't know, i hope not. I don't think he will but she is still a definite possibility
Chloe - I think we could still run away again somewhere else just incase
Bea shakes her head
Bea - No I told you, I don't want to spend our lives always on the run. We have to make it work here or it doesn't work at all and it's as simple as that. All we can do is hope and pray that Janice doesn't go back on her word. I guess she seemed genuine enough but it's hard to tell with her

Geoff is in his cell as Marina arrives
Marina - Mr Moran will see you now as requested
Geoff's face lights up with delight
Geoff - Excellent!
Geoff moves out with Marina

Eileen is leaving a building, in the late evening, and heading to her car as she spots Ted watching her from his car across the road
She storms over
Eileen - Ted what are you playing at?
Ted - just passing the time
Eileen - Are you following me? Trying to scare me? I will tell you now that it won't work Ted! I will inform the police
Ted - And what will you tell them? I haven't done anything have i
Eileen - I will tell them that you are bothering me and that will be all I need to do to get some action against you
Ted - You have me all wrong, what I actually wanted to do was invite you to have dinner with me tonight, now I can't be any friendlier than that can i
Eileen - What are you playing at now Ted?
Ted - I merely wish to apologize for trying to drown you that's all, I realize it was completely beyond the pale and I do not know what came over me to make me act like that
Eileen - Yes it was totally beyond the pale, but I don't buy for one second that you are sorry. I don't buy this sudden turnaround
Ted - Please Eileen I am genuine. Allow me to make amends, please
Eileen - Ok I will have dinner with you, but only in a public restaurant. I refuse to meet you alone away from other people
Ted - Of course, I understand that and I expected it also. That's why I booked a table for us for tonight in the best restaurant in town. The table's booked for 8 pm, I hope you can make it?
Eileen - In that case, I will go home and get ready. See you there at 8
Ted looks pleased

Geoff is alone with Bob in the office
Bob has a severe look on his face
Bob - I hope whatever you wanted to see me about is important Butler. The less I have to deal with you the better
Geoff smirks
Geoff - Oh it's important alright
Geoff hands over a piece of paper
Geoff - recognize that?
Bob studies it and gasps in shock
It's an address
Bob - How the hell did you get this?
Geoff - I have my contacts who can help me find out anything I want to know. You didn't honestly think I wouldn't find out where they live, did you? You know how special dear old Jimmy boy and the lovely Katherine are to me!
Bob is full of rage
Bob - I'm warning you, Butler, I do not want any more harm caused to them. They deserve to be left alone to live their lives in peace
Geoff - Well that really depends on you doesn't it Bob...and on how much you are willing to co-operate with me. Whether you are willing to do everything I ask of you like a good little boy to protect your friends!
Bob is fuming

GATESLAM
PART 3

Judy is watching the sunset from the window in her cell
Sasha is sitting on the bed with a cup of tea and a magazine
Sasha - You'll strain your neck if you stay like that Jude
Judy steps down and sits beside Sasha
Judy - It's one of the things I miss the most, being able to see the sunset without seeing it through bars with an obstructed view
Sasha - You'll be out soon enough and then you will be able to see it
Judy - I hope so
Sasha - You will be, I see no reason for your parole to get delayed any longer now
Sasha picks up a second cup of tea for Judy
Sasha - While you were at the window I made you this
Judy - Thanks love
Judy takes her tea and takes a sip
Judy - You know something, while I was at the window I was thinking about Bea. She and Chloe are out there free and happy. I just know it, I can feel it
Judy looks happy

London
Janice and Richard are sitting on a bench by the Thames watching the sun rise over London
Janice - Beautiful isn't it
Richard - Yes, sure is
Janice - Las Vegas next Richard, we have to go to Las Vegas next
Richard - We will eventually, might not be for a few years yet
Janice - I can be patient, just as long as I go there once in my life...Right now I wish we could stay here a little longer, I am having such a lovely time
Richard - Seeing Bea and Chloe hasn't ruined it then?
Janice - No way, I admit it was something of a shock, but this has still been an amazing honeymoon. I've loved every minute of it

It is dark now as Bob is signing out in reception
Marina is sitting at the desk
Marina - So what did the boy wonder want to see you about tonight then?
Bob - Pardon?
Marina - Butler, what did he want to see you about?
Bob - It was nothing worth talking about, that man likes to waste people's time with a load of nonsense, nothing more
Marina - He is so good at it though, that's the spine-chillingly scary bit about it
Bob - Yes, well goodnight now Officer Donovan
Marina - Goodnight Mr Moran
Bob leaves the prison, looking like the weight of the world is on his shoulders

Chloe is sleeping as Bea talks on the phone
Bea - I need to see you today, can you come and meet me?

Eileen is dressed up and ready for her meal with Ted
Her doorbell goes and she answers
Freddie is standing at the door. Freddie is the guy who abducted Tommy from the hospital for Eileen way back in Episode 732
Eileen examines her watch
Eileen - Well you're punctual as usual Fred
Freddie - You said you had a job for me, Eileen?
Eileen - Yes that's right, I will have to give you the details quickly as I am due to a dinner date very soon so no time to hang around. But this is a very straightforward job for you, Fred

The Recroom
Judy, Sasha, and Katie are there together
Judy - How's it going in the Restaurant for you two anyway?
Sasha looks delighted
Sasha - It's going great Jude, truly great. I am a natural according to chef and Marcus
Katie looks down in the dumps
Katie - It's going great for you maybe, but let's face it I suck big time. I may have to pull out soon and admit that I am a crap cook
Sasha -No Katie you mustn't give up. Just keep at it, love
Katie - At least I can say I gave it a go. But there's nothing wrong in admitting that you're just not good at something sometimes
Katie looks ever the more sorry for herself
Katie - The trouble is I am yet to find anything I am good at. I found out I was good at cleaning toilets and that's about it
Judy - Oh honey, you poor thing eh
Judy comforts Katie

Abigail is alone in her cell as Marina arrives in the doorway and stands to observe her
Abigail has her back to Marina and has not noticed her yet

Ted is waiting in a Restaurant as Eileen arrives to meet him
Ted smiles
Ted - I am glad you came, I wasn't sure if you would
Eileen - I wasn't sure either to be totally honest with you, but I decided I was curious and wanted to hear what you have to say, Ted

Vera is in reception, typing, as Vern arrives
Vern - You're still here Miss Bennett?
Vera - Yes, I am doing a double shift, any problem with that?
Vern - You look shattered that's all, and after your bad piece of news today maybe you'd be better off going home to rest. This is only the night shift and I am sure Officer Donovan and I could manage here alone
Vera is snappy
Vera - I am perfectly fine thank you, no need to go home and rest! I can do my shift as normal!
Vern admits defeat
Vern - Ok that's fine, I was just trying to be helpful that's all
Vera - If you want to be helpful then the best thing you could do is leave me to get on with it!
Vern leaves again
Vera returns to her typing with a sigh

Abigail senses she is being watched and turns around
She is startled at the sight of Marina
Abigail - Can I help you, Miss?
Marina enters the cell with a smile
Marina - I thought we could have a little chat Freestone, it could be most useful
Abigail - A chat about what?
Marina - I couldn't help noticing that you do not seem to have any friends, a real loner
Abigail - In here yes, I do not need or want any friends, but on the outside, I have many wonderful friends
Marina - Would you say you hate this lot?
Abigail - Yes, pretty much
Marina - You wouldn't do them any favors then?
Abigail - No way, never!
Marina smirks
Marina - That's good Freestone, that means you can work for me
Abigail - Work for you?
Marina - Indeed yes, help me run this place and keep that lot in line.
Abigail - What would be in it for me if I helped you?
Marina - Special privileges as and when you do me proud
Abigail - Yes...do carry on. What else?
Marina delivers a disarming smile before grabbing Abigail and pulling her up off the bed
She punches her hard in the stomach
Marina - YOU WILL SPARE YOURSELF FROM ONE OR TWO THRASHINGS IF YOU WORK FOR ME TOO, IS THAT INCENTIVE ENOUGH?
Abigail -BITCH!
Marina hits her again
Marina - I suggest you work on how you talk to me. All the time I get such a level of disrespect I will hurt you time and again!
Abigail - Ok, I'm sorry Miss!
Marina - I know you are, they always are after I punish them! Learn a lesson from it and let's move on and start making a few plans. I do not wish to waste any more time now

Eileen and Ted are sitting together
Eileen - I'll get right to the point...spare me the bullshit and just tell me the reason you wanted this meal
Ted - The real reason you mean?
Eileen - Yes Ted, that reason
Ted sips his wine
Ted - It's like I told you, Eileen, I am sorry I tried to drown you, it was way out of line and I want us to make up
Eileen - And you are no longer bothered about Lucy?
Ted - No not particularly. What's done is done and it's time to move on. I'd still like us to get married too Eileen claps her hands together
Eileen - Good performance Ted, really I have to hand it to you, you belong in Hollywood with a performance like that... shame I don't buy a word of it though
Ted - What more can I say to convince you? You're a difficult woman Eileen
Eileen- I'm nobody's fool you mean. Well you're right, I can smell bullshit a mile off
Ted -You weren't so good at smelling it the other night when you put yourself alone in a vulnerable position with me
Eileen - Yes you're right there, I let my guard down that time, I can't deny that. But what I can say is that that won't be happening again. I won't be putting myself in a situation like that again...so, tell me now how you really feel because I am not buying any of this crap
Ted leans across the table to whisper
Ted - You know you're right Eileen, it is all crap. I was trying to lure you into a false sense of security but you're far too smart for that. I was wasting my time but it was worth a try
Eileen - So now tell me the truth
Ted - The truth is this...I will never forgive you for what you did and I will keep chipping away bit by bit until I destroy you
Eileen - You'll try sure, but you won't succeed
Ted - I will play the long game, I may not succeed at first but I will get there eventually. I may have knockbacks along the way, and lose a few rounds, but I will bounce back and never give up. I will do all I can to avenge Lucy's death
Eileen - You'd really be better off letting it drop as you can never beat me. Many try and they never succeed
Ted - You really are a piece of work, you don't even care what you do to others, the harm you cause
Eileen - Everything I do I do for a reason. As for Lucy dying, that was an unfortunate accident as you well know. I did not intend anyone's death from that, I didn't expect that damn building to fall
Ted - But now that it has you won't lose sleep over it because you don't really care, right?
Eileen - Oh I care, I care over the damn headache it caused me. I could have done without it frankly!
Ted - You self-absorbed bitch, I meant about all the people who died because of your corner-cutting
Eileen - Like I say it was unfortunate...
Ted - Just shut up, I can't stand to hear any more of it. Just be prepared for your life to be ruined, I mean business here
Eileen - I'm sure you do and I wish you luck with that
Ted stands up
Ted - Now that we've had this chat I can't stand to be around you, so I am going to the bar to get drunk and remember my daughter. You can do whatever the hell you like I don't care
Ted walks away
Eileen watches him go with a grin on her face

Back with marina and Abigail
Marina - So the first project is going to have to be that ridiculous Restaurant and getting it closed down. It's a joke and I can't sit back and allow anything like that to remain open in a prison I am working in
Abigail - But the Restaurant was all Moran's idea and has his full backing. He will never close it
Marina - That is why he must be left with no choice, in fact, the choice will not be his to make by the time we're done. It will be the department that orders the closure of the Restaurant after we have set it up to fail
Abigail - And how will we do that?
Marina - It's more a case of how you will do it... I'll give you the instructions of course, but you will be the one doing all the work. For a start, you can put your name down to work there. That way once you are inside and behind enemy lines, you can get to work. Between the two of us, we will close that stupid place down in no time
Abigail - Sasha won't like that, she really loves working there and getting trained
Marina - Upsetting Cartwright bothers you does it?
Abigail grins and shakes her head
Abigail - No miss, I hate her!
Marina - Good girl! I hate her too
Abigail - Why? You hardly know her yet
Marina - She's the top dog and I hate top dogs, they are always trouble and need to be kept in their place, shown who is boss, and prevented from getting too big for their boots

Vera is still typing in reception as a new arrival is escorted in
Vera looks up from her typing to see a new arrival
It's Tiffany
Vera smirks
Vera - Look who it is!
Tiffany looks shocked to see her

GATESLAM
PART 4

Back with Vera and Tiffany
Vera - Judging by your face I take it you remember me then?
Tiffany - Yeah, you're Vera right? Meg's friend
Vera - NO I AM MISS BENNETT, NOT VERA! YOU WILL ADDRESS ME AS MISS BENNETT AT ALL TIMES
Vera stands up and walks over to Tiffany
Vera - However you did get one bit right, I am Meg's friend and she told me what you did to her
Tiffany looks uncomfortable but attempts a smile
Tiffany - What happens now then?
Vera - First we will have the induction, stand on the line!
Vera points to the line and Tiffany obediently stands on it
Vera - You're name is Tiffany Mitchell and you are on remand for theft, is that correct?
Tiffany - Yes, that's correct
Vera - Now you will shower and then I will take you to a cell!
Vera points to the shower room
Vera - Off you go, it's late and we don't have all night...NOW MOVE!
Tiffany jumps with fright and runs off to the shower

In London, there is a flash of Winter sunshine peeking out from the clouds
Janice and Richard are in Trafalgar Square, sitting by the fountains
They are feeding the pigeons
Janice - I am starting to feel good about Bea and Chloe. I'm glad we left them alone, why cause them misery when we don't have to?
Richard - Exactly, we can go back knowing we did something nice for them rather than knowing we put someone back in prison on a life sentence and separated an orphaned child from her grandmother
Janice - I just hope they have the tools to make a go of it here, it's going to be hard for them and it's that poor kid I worry about
Richard - They can make it, Smith is a tough and determined woman
Janice- Yes she's that alright
Richard - It looked to me like they have already made a good start, they are set up nicely in that flat, Smith has a job and Chloe goes to school. Most importantly Chloe looked happy and healthy, I think they will be just fine
Janice - I hope so, we can't do anything to help them though, we can only leave them to it
Richard looks at his watch
Richard - Shall we take a little stroll towards Leicester Square now? I was thinking we could have a bite to eat in Pizza Hut or something before the show starts
Janice - Yes, my butt is getting numb sitting here, let's go
Janice tosses a last piece of bread down for the pigeons
Janice - There you go you greedy mongrels, no more left now
They watch as the pigeons fight for the bread
Richard - Right let's go, I am starving
They get up and walk across Trafalgar Square, arms linked together

At their flat Bea is watching ''Carry on Camping'' on the tv. Kenneth Williams and Hattie Jacques are on the screen
Chloe is sleeping on the sofa. The late night has caught up on her
The key turns in the front door and Bea sits bolt-upright in her chair
The door opens and a man enters
Bea runs to greet him with a happy smile
The man is Ken Pearce

Vera shows Tiffany into a cell
Vera - It will be lock up soon so start unpacking, you don't have much time
Tiffany - Look about Meg...
Vera - There is nothing you can say about that to make it any better so save your breath, Mitchell
Tiffany - I did what I had to to survive that's all, it was nothing personal
Vera - You'll see her soon enough, I'm sure she'll let you explain it all to her
Tiffany looks confused
Tiffany - See her?
Vera grins
Vera - Oh yes that's right, I don't suppose you would know that she works here too would you?
Tiffany - She works here? Hell...
Vera - Yes and like I say I am sure she will listen to your reasons. She is too nice for her own good too often.
Tiffany - When will I get to see her then?
Vera - Not for a while, she is on holiday in Bali right now but she will be back soon enough. In the meantime, I'll be here to remind you what you did, and don't expect your sob stories to cut any ice with me
Tiffany - Look, Miss Bennett, do you have any idea how hard it is when you have no job and no one to support you?
Vera - I don't care, like I say I won't listen to your sob stories. You, people, have an excuse for everything, you really think there is a justifiable reason for lying, cheating, and stealing don't you?
Tiffany - Yeah it's called survival!
Vera - It's called being a piece of scum! Nothing can ever justify it in my mind
Tiffany - Why don't you go away and leave me alone
Vera - I'll go when I'm ready and not before. You'll learn that here we make the rules, not you!
Vera begins to undo Tiffany's suitcase, with a nasty smirk on her face
Vera - Let's see what you've got in here shall we? I bet most of it's stolen!
Tiffany - Can you leave my things alone, you have no right to go through them!
Vera - I CAN DO AS I PLEASE SCUM! I TOLD YOU, I'M THE OFFICER AND I MAKE THE RULES HERE, YOU'RE A PRISON AND YOU'RE NOTHING, MITCHELL!
Vera takes out some shower gel
Vera - What do we have here? The little tramp trying to make herself smell nice is she? No amount of soap or shower gel will ever make you clean!
Vera opens the lid and squirts the shower gel all over the floor
Tiffany - Please stop that, that's all I had
Vera - Pity!
Vera carries on going through the suitcase
Vera - Let's see what other little treasures we have in here shall we
Vera takes out some clothes
Vera - You won't be needing these. Once you get convicted and sentenced you will be wearing a uniform, exactly as you should be
Vera begins to rip the clothes up
Tiffany is close to tears
Tiffany - Please stop this!
Vera - Oh what's the matter little girl, can't handle it huh? Maybe you should have thought of that before you did the horrible things you did, you wouldn't be here if you hadn't. But you people are stupid aren't you, stupid and worthless! I hate the lot of you!
Vera throws the torn garments to the floor
She picks the suitcase up and scatters the rest of the items across the floor
Vera - GET THIS MESS CLEARED UP BEFORE LIGHTS OUT!
Vera storms out of the room
Still weeping Tiffany gets a towel and bends over to clear up the shower gel from the floor

Bea and Ken are sitting down together
Bea - It gave me one hell of a scare I can tell you, but they promised not to shop us in
Ken - God Bea, I can imagine. What if they go back on it?
Bea - Somehow I don't think they will, I think it will be ok
Ken - I can move you both if need be
Bea - No Ken, we're settled here, I don't want to keep moving her around to different places, it's not fair
Ken - If you're sure?
Bea - I am, I really don't think Janice is going to tell anyone. I know her well enough to know when she is genuine or not and in a funny way, I think me and her understand each other, and maybe even respect each other. I never quite hated her as much as I hated the likes of Ferguson and Bennett
Ken - It's still a bit of a shock to see you again after all these years Bea
Bea - You did say to get in touch if I ever needed you
Ken - Yes and I meant it, I never expected you to follow me to London though!
Bea - I hope I'm not a burden to you?
Ken - No of course not Bea, I am happy to help you always, you know that
They smile at each other

Ted is propping up the bar in the Restaurant, he appears well on the way to being drunk
Eileen appears at the bar
Ted - Haven't you gone yet?
Eileen - I thought I'd stick around for a bit, and see if you needed someone to give you a hand getting home. You are well plastered
Ted - I don't need help from anyone. least of all you. Now bugger off!
Eileen - Are you planning to drive home
Ted - Yes of course, how else would I get home?
Eileen - You are far too drunk for that! Imagine if you had an accident and killed someone, how would you live with it?
Ted - Well you seem to manage ok, maybe I'd take a few leafs out of your book on that one
Eileen - You look a pathetic, wretched trainwreck of a man tonight Ted. You will have a job convincing me that you mean business and that I should be in any way scared of you
Ted - You should be scared, I said so
Eileen - Trouble is that right now you're about as scary as a bowl of jelly! You'll have to lay off the booze and toughen up a bit before I take you seriously
Ted slurs his words
Ted - You'll see....you'll all see in time. I'll show you all just what Ted Ferguson is capable of!
Eileen - Sober up first though eh! The funny thing about drunks is that they are never in control of anything, that's why I rarely ever get drunk you see, I like being in control
Ted - I'm having this drink tonight to remember Lucy that's all. Soon I will sober up and then I will be in control, you'll see. I won't make a habit of drinking!
Eileen - I'm sure you won't and I am sure I should be terrified of you Ted!

Bea, Ken, and Chloe are walking together in a London Park
Chloe walks on ahead a little as Bea and Ken stroll together
Bea - This is what you miss when you're in prison, the simple things. Just being able to walk in the park, smell the fresh air, feel the breeze on our faces, listen to the birds, and see the trees and the grass. Inside its all so grey and dull, with no colour, no life
Ken - Nothing beats being free, it's only when you spend time behind bars you realize how important it is and how much you take for granted when you are free
Bea - I've been lonely all these years without a man in my life, I still have feelings for you, Ken, I think you know that
Ken - Yes Bea, I do know it
Bea - Any chance for us or am I being a fool again?
Ken - Well I'm not with Marion anymore so I'd say there's a good chance yes. One step at a time though
They smile at each other
Bea links arms with Ken and he doesn't push her away
They carry on walking along linking arms and looking like a couple
Chloe is still walking ahead. She is singing to herself, daydreaming, happy, carefree

Ted walks out into the car park of the Restaurant. It is pretty dark with little lighting
He climbs into the driver's side of his car
He is well drunk
Someone has followed him out of the Restaurant and yells at him in concern
Man - I REALLY DON'T THINK YOU SHOULD BE DRIVING IN THAT STATE!
Ted - BUGGER OFF AND MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS!
Eileen is watching from the shadows
Ted slams the car door shut and turns the key in the ignition
The car blows up in a spectacular fireball
