*Serena at the top
My breath caught in my throat. I had been trained for this moment forever, but I had never thought it would come so quickly.
I closed my eyes fighting to keep in the tears. Arms wrapped around my waist and I was instantly surrounded with warmth. My body shook with sobs but quickly stopped when I remember who I was. I was strong not weak.
I untangled myself from my sisters and stood up tall letting all my power flow. I could fight. I could win. I will win. For my people, my family and my kingdom.
"I will stop them. This is my battle." I wanted my father to look at me with pride, that I stood up for what I believed in. But instead he stood up an yelled,
"SILENCE CHILD! There is nothing you can do to stop them from coming. And when they do you will not be here."
My father, the king of the sea. Did the unspeakable. He cried. I've only seen him cry once before and it was alone when he found out my mother was dead. Seeing him this way caught everyone off guard no one was excepting it.
I turned my head away from him and swam towards the big oak doors that lead to the outside. Looking back I whispered,
"No one can control me father. I will protect what will be mine one day."
And with that I slammed the door shut on everyone's stunned faces. I had did it. I had left the castle. I observed my surroundings taking everything in. This was my first time in the real world.
On my way out of the castle, mermaids and mermen stopped and stared. They have never seen me before, and they must be wondering who I am. But I was on a mission. I needed to talk to someone.
As I swam further in the water, I felt for the first time the warm sun. I began to wonder what it was like outside of the ocean. I rose to surface and observed the area. I could feel the water changing, the waves growing stronger and the skies growing darker. My father was clearly not happy.
Feeling strong and powerful. I decided to give him my own type of message. One he would hear loud and clear. I sang into the water letting my feelings flow out of me.
I began to realize as I looked around the empty sea, just how alone I was. Know one would ever truly understand me.
I sighed and thought about my family. Yes they loved me and cared for me. But they also feared me. And sometimes fear is stronger than love.
Looking around the water I saw a small blonde mass of hair come up from the water.
"That wasn't very smart you know. Swimming out on daddy when he is emotional. But I understand why you did it. You needed a beak from all the stress and staying locked up in the castle wasn't helping you."
I smiled at my sister. Melody was only a couple months younger and yet here she is looking out for me. I embraced her in a long hug whispering a thank you. Today's events made me realize you can always count on family to help you in a time of need.
But as she started to disappear back into the water, she whispered words that still haunt me today.
"Oh and Serena, I would be careful who you trust. You never know which sibling might let it slip about what you are. And don't try and deny it we all know about you gift."
