"You got everything you need ?"
"Yeah, are y'all bringing my last two bags ?"
"Yeah, now go ahead and start driving." Ma shooed me out of the front door
"Rudeness." I mumbled before walking over to my car
I put my bags in the backseat and hopped in the drivers. Today was move in day and I was more than excited to be on the next journey of my life.
My annoying ass cousin Iris decided to attend Clark too, and she's been blowing up my phone since 10 this morning. I blocked her number, but she ended up calling my damn mama.
I also was upset because I haven't heard from Eryn either. Her mom said she got into a fight and got sent to solitary confinement, but I didn't know if the shit was true or not.
"Toodie ! Hurry up and quit day dreaming girl !" Ma yelling snapped me out of my thoughts
"Lady." I mumbled rolling my eyes
I put my car in reverse and backed out of the driveway. I unlocked my phone and clicked shuffle, first song playing was "Woah" by Shayaa.
Although it was his first mixtape, it was more than good. The people in the streets were loving it, and a couple of his songs were playing on the radio. It was too bad he's in the situation he's in right now instead of celebrating.
The rest of the ride was smooth and I finally made it to campus. It was packed and people were walking around, smiling and laughing. A few of the sororities were out, yelling and representing.
"This shit is definitely different from high school." I said to myself
I leaned against my car drivers door and waited for my mother to pull up. I swear she drives like a granny, even when theres no cars on the road. She finally made it and I did a dramatic sigh.
"You drive so slow, my birthday might come even faster."
"Shut up lil girl."
We grabbed my bags and walked to where my room would be. I was housing in the traditional Bumstead hall which would hold a whole different varity of people.
"Ma, ignore it." I told her as I heard her phone ring
"Carter stop being mean to your cousin."
"I'm not being mean, she's annoying." I rolled my eyes
We walked in my hall and I went straight to my room. I was sharing a room with some girl and I hope she was gonna be easy to get along with.
"Oh my god, why the hell your bags so dang heavy." Ma threw my bags on the floor
"Well okay, throw my things on the ground why don't you." I stared at her
"Girl that shit was heavy, now come on so I can help you set up this room." She threw my comforter and pillows my way
"You are out of control." I eyed her before starting on my bed
It took us close to an hour and 15 minutes to get everything done the way I wanted it. My room turned out great and I got my bathroom together too.
"Oh my god, you're my roommate ?!" A cheery voice questioned
I looked up seeing a girl with long black straight hair. She had nice light brownskin along with some good straightened teeth, and good eyebrows.

"Yeah, I'm Carter." I held my hand out
"My names Bella, but you can just call me Rico. Mostly everyone calls me that." She shook my hand
"Nice to meet you."
"You too, is that your sister ?" She pointed to my mom
"Nah, that's my mom." I laughed as my mom started smiling "Please don't gas her."
"She's beautiful."
"Oh why thank you." Ma started smiling like crazy
She don't know how to act when she get a compliment. We all talked for a little while before ma said she had to go.
"I love you and I'll check in on you later." Ma kissed my cheek
"Okay, and I have to go back anyways for Shayaa's trial." I told her
"I'm praying, did you talk to his mom ?"
"No, he hasn't took me to meet her yet." I shook my head
"And how long have y'all been together ?"
"Umm, we started dating in February so around like 5 months. We broke up though cause I stabbed him."
"Now why the hell you stab that boy ?!" She popped my forehead
"Ow man." I sucked my teeth "And its a long story that ion wanna get into."
"Wow, just wow. So are y'all together or not ?"
"We together but we not together."
"And what the hell that mean ?"
"That's my boyfriend but at the same time he not. I'm just apart of his support system right now."
"Mhmm, whatever type of bullshit that is." She mumbled before walking off "Nice to meet you Rico."
"You too ma'am." She called out to my mother
I sat down on my bed and called Harold. If I missed anything, he would tell me what happened. He's gotten more serious since both Eryn and Shayaa are gone.
"What you want lil girl." He answered
"I miss anything ? And what time is his hearing again ?"
"It's at 6, ion know why they got his shit so late though."
"Me either. Eryn called you ?"
"She been supposed to call me yesterday, but I ain't hear from her."
"Her mama said she got into a fight, but I don't know if it's true or not. I'll call the jail myself."
"I'll beat her mama ass for lying."
"Boy." I started laughing
"I heard yo lil ass done moved in on yo lil college campus."
"Yeah, I just got here about an hour ago. I was doing my room and all that shit."
"You got a roommate ?"
"Yeah, she seem nice. She pretty too."
"Good for you, don't beat nobody child up either."
"I don't fight no more, that was my high school days."
"Mhmm, okay you lil liar."
"You are so annoying, but I'll see you at the courthouse."
"Alright, oh and Kash said call her. Something about her shoe missing."
"Alright, I love you lil bro."
"Why you getting all mushy, stop the shit. I'm a grown ass man."
"Say it back."
"Hell no."
"Harold."
"Girl quit calling my name in this phone, you know them people looking for me."
"Ain't nobody looking for you, you not popping lil bro."
"Oh for real ? Aight, bet."
"I was just—" I couldn't even finish before I was met with three beeps
"Such a lil girl." I rolled my eyes before leaning back on my bed
"Hey, you wanna walk around with me on Campus ? I didn't wanna just leave you here." Rico peeked her head in my doorway
"Sure." I said hopping off of my bed
I switched out of my Nike slides and slipped on some white low top converse. I grabbed my phone and walked out of my room.
"So how old are you ?" She asked after we locked our room door
"18, I'll be 19 in October."
"Ooooh, nasty 19. My birthday is in September, finna get real nasty at my party I'm throwing." She did a small twerk
"For mine too, I'm ready for College life." I told her as we walked down the hallway
"Aye, wassup Rico."
We stopped our conversation to see a darkskin boy walking up to us with his two friends.
"My homie lil Liky." Rico laughed before giving him a hug "Hey Deshaun and Cass."
"Sup Rico." One of them nodded their at her
"Who your friend is ?" Lik asked staring at me
"Oh this my roommate Carter." She introduced me "Carter this my brother from another mother, Malik."
"You can call me Liky though, it don't matter." He smiled showcasing his bottom grills
"Aight." I did a small chuckle pushing my hair out of my face
"We finna walk around campus, y'all coming ?" Rico asked
"Yeah, we ain't got nothing else to do right now." Malik shrugged
"Actually, I have to go meet up with my girl so I'll catch y'all on the flipside." Cass said before taking off in the opposite direction
"That nigga stay booed up with somebody daughter." Deshaun said as we all laughed
"Exactly." Malik agreed with him
"And what's wrong with that ? Y'all act like niggas can't be hug up with they girlfriends." Rico said
"Ain't nobody said something was wrong with it, it just be that nigga be with his gal 24/7." Deshaun told her
We walked all around the campus seeing the different sororities show out and even got some food. I ended up leaving since I had to drive back in time for Shayaa's court appearance.
"You look fine girlfriend." Kash said as I walked up to them
"I always look fine, you know me." I flipped my hair swinging it from side to side
"Yes bitch yes, swiiing it." Shantell boosted me up
"Fuck it up girlfriend, fuck it up."
"If you don't keep yo lil ass still, fuck is wrong with you." Chevy grabbed me by my shirt
"Ouch, kill the vibe why don't you." Shantell looked at him
"And get off my nicely iron shirt nigga." I pushed him off
"Aye, we not starting this today." Pablo said as we walked inside the courthouse
We walked to the room and saw Shayaa already sitting next to his lawyer. Nudy was on the other side of him and the judge had his glasses lowered on his face.
"Oh shit, we late." Harold said as we rushed to sit down
"Has the jury reached a verdict ?" The judge questioned
"Yes your honor." The white man stood up "We the jury find the defendant Shayaa Joseph guilty of—"
"What ?!" I yelled standing up
