9| I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE

ENA'S POV

I had been thankful and overjoyed to hear the final bell of the day ring out through the school. Waisting no time, I quickly turned to leave but unfortunately was stopped.

'Enya!' Stefan whispered as he grabbed my arm and pull me to the end of the school corridor. Once we were around the corner and out of sight, he let go and pushed me up against the wall.

'We have a problem,' he spoke softly while still keeping an eye out for anyone who might have seen us.

'What?' I asked angrily.

'I just overheard Matt and Elena talking and he said that last night Vicki woke up and told him that it was a vampire that attack her.'

'Why the hell would she say that?' I quietly yelled.

'Because it was a vampire that attacked her!' He replied.

'This has nothing to do with me,' I said as I tried to leave.

'Yes, it does!' Stefan yelled as he used his strength to keep me in place, 'I know what you are, Ena.'

'And what it that, Stefan?' I replied, my voice thick with venom.

'You're a vampire...and so am I.'

As he spoke those simple yet life-changing words, all the anger in my body dissipated due to the shock.

He knew about me! If he told Elena, I was done for.

'Did you attack Vicki?' I asked once I let the information sink in.

'What? No! Geez, Enya!'

'Then who was it?' I asked confused.

Stefan took a step back and lowered his head .

'It was my brother.'

'Your brother!'  I all but screamed.

'Keep your voice down,' he warned, 'Yes, it was my brother. He decided to come home and now I need your help to make sure he doesn't hurt anyone else.'

I put my hands against Stefan's chest and shoved him back, my anger towards Stefan now fully back.

'You want my help?' I spat, 'You didn't even have the decency to tell me that you knew what I was when you first meet me and it must have also escaped your mind to to tell me that you were like me. So, no Stefan, I will not help you. Clean up your own mess.'

Turning to leave, he once again grabbed me by the arm. He looked pleading at me with his bright green eyes.

'He will come after you. He won't be able to help himself.'

'Do you think I care?' I said, looking at him dead on, 'Do you think that scares me? I was suppose to die in a car crash that killed my parents. I was suppose to drown with them and so was Elena...but we didn't. And then, I woke up in a hospital bed, feeling grateful for being alive, and as soon as I felt safe I feel this unwavering need to rip my nurse's throat out. I'm a killer and the thought of hurting someone I care about keeps me up at night, so if your maniac brother wants to kill me then fine. At least then this nightmare that has become my life will stop.'

'He won't kill you. He'll just take away everything that you care about. Trust me, I know.' Stefan tried to reason with me.

'Trust is earned, Stefan!'

'Then give me a chance to earn it, please!' He pleaded.

I didn't want to fight with him, not really. I could tell that he cared for my sister and I knew that she cared for him so it wasn't like I could be mad at him. Well, I could...but I could also be civil towards him.

'And how would you do that?' I asked, now completely calm.

'First, I need your help with Vicki and then after that I will tell you everything you want to know about vampires and how to survive without anyone figuring out what you are. Anything you need, I'll be there to help.'

I sighed deeply. I didn't want anything to do with it but he was right; Vicki wasn't just his problem but mine too. If she spoke out about what attack her then we would both be in danger.

'Will take my car...wanna drive?' I asked as I held out the car keys to him.

Stefan grinned and then grabbed the keys before we finally left the school grounds.

Arriving at the hospital, I asked the receptionist where Vicki Donovan's room was. The middle aged woman behind the counter took a while to reply as she was too busy asking about how I was for she had been working on the night of the accident. After nodding and smiling politely at her, she finally informed Stefan and I that Vicki was resting up in room 2-2-4.

Walking down the cold and empty corridor of Mystic Falls General, I held up my hand to make stefan stay where he was before continuing on to Vicki's room.

'Hey, Matt,' I whispered as I entered the small room.

He was sitting beside the hospital bed; his head was bowed and he clutched his sisters hand in his.

'Hey,' He replied, looking up as I walked in.

'I just wanted to come by and see how she was.' I smiled as I sat on the armrest of his chair and put my arm around his shoulders.

'You left the bonfire. I saw you.' He said.

'I know. I'm sorry, I wasn't feeling well last night.' I lied.

Matt nodded and leaned his head in to my shoulder and sighed.

'She's going to be okay, Matt.' I whispered before laying my head on top of his.

We sat like that for awhile but pulled apart at Vicki began to regain consciousness.

'Whoa! Vick,' Matt said as he rushed to her side, 'Vicki, hey. Vick, it's Matt. Hey, what's wrong?'

'No! No! Get off! No! No! No!' She started thrashing around and screaming as Matt tried to calm his sister.

'Nurse!' Matt yelled as he ran out of the room in search of a Doctor. As Matt walked out, Stefan appeared.

'It was an animal that attacked you. It came out of the night and jumped you. You blacked out. It's all you remember.' He said as he looked in to Vicki's eyes and compelled her.

'It's all I remember,' she replied in emotionlessly.

'An animal attacked you. You blacked out. It's all you remember.' He repeated.

'It's all I remember,' Vicki said showing that the compulsion had worked.

'Nurse! I need help! It's my sister.' Matt yelled as he returned to find that Vicki had calmed down while I sat beside her, stroking her hair soothingly; Stefan was no where to be seen.

'She seems fine,' the nurse said and then left without checking on her patient.

After spending a few more minutes with Matt and Vicki, I left them and meet up with the girls who where sitting out the front of the Mystic Grill.

'Well, I was talking to Grams, and she said the comet is a sign of impending doom. The last time it passed over Mystic Falls, there was lots of death. So much blood and carnage, it created a bed of paranormal activity,' Bonnie said.

'Yeah, and then you poured Grams another shot and she told you about the aliens,' Caroline joked before turing to Elena, 'So then what?'

'So then...nothing,' My sister said as tried to hide her blushing cheeks.

'You and Stefan talked all night? There was no sloppy first kiss or touchy feely of any kind?' Caroline questioned.

'Hey! Sister present. Don't need to know the details,' I laughed.

'We didn't go there,' Elena rolled her eyes at us.

'Not even a handshake? I mean, Elena, we are your friends. Ok? You are supposed to share the smut.'

'Again, SISTER right here,' I said point at myself, 'Really don't want to know.'

'We just talked for hours.' Elena gushed.

'OK, what is with the blockage? Just jump his bones already! Ok, it's easy. Boy likes girl, girl likes boy, sex!' Caroline said enthusiastically.

'Profound,' I said sarcastically but to my surprise Elena stood up and grabbed her bag and jacket.

'Where are you going?' Bonnie asked.

'Caroline's right. It is easy. If I sit here long enough, I'll end up talking myself out of it instead of doing what I started the day saying what I was going to do,' Elena said, 'Ena...will you follow me in your car. I might need the back up.'

'No offence, Elena, but I don't really want to go to the boarding house if your intentions are to jump his bones.' I smirked.

'Please, Ena,' She pleaded.

Sighing, I too stood up, 'Fine.'

'Thank you,' she grinned, waved at the girls and then dragged me away from the Grill and towards the direction of my car.

I arrived at the Salvatore Boarding House first as Elena was still hesitant with her driving. Personally, I was proud of the fact that Elena was even willing to drive now rather then catch a lift with someone else.

I wasn't surprised to find the front door unlocked and decided just walk in.

'Stefan?' I called out, 'Stefan?'

Hearing something behind me, I turned around to find a man stranding in the hallway. He was tall and from what I could tell he had a well toned muscular physic under his black clothes. His hair was dark and styled in a way which made him look dangerous yet also ridiculously attractive.

He was gorgeous, plain and simple, but it was his eyes that were the real beauty.

They were pale and the most stunning shade of blue I had ever seen. They were the kind of eyes that I could get lost in, and I would be happy to do so as well.

He looked at me in disbelief; his chest rose and fell rapidly, which was saying something for a vampire. The disbelief was gone from his eyes all too quickly, only to be replaced with mischief and a sexy smirk across his lips.

'Enya. What a lovely surprise. Stefan told me we had another vampire in town.' His voice was smooth like velvet and his words seemed to go straight through me like a cold breeze.

'You must be his brother,' I replied.

Suddenly he was in front of me, 'Yes..I'm Damon,' He said as he softly grabbed my hand and placed a kissed against my knuckles.

God dammit, I thought. Even his name was attractive.

I was going to speak but was interrupted by Elena's untimely arrival.

'Stefan?' She called out.

Damon left my side and walked towards my sister, startling her.

'I...I'm sorry for barging in. The door was...open.'

'You must be Elena. I'm Damon, Stefan's brother,' Damon smiled down at her.

"He didn't tell me he had a brother,' Elena said confused.

'Well, I'm sure Stefan's not one to brag,' I said which earned me a smirk from Damon.

'Please, come. I'm sure Stefan will be along any second,' Damon replied to Elena.

'Wow. This is your living room?' Elena asked as she walked through the impressive house.

'Living room, parlor, Sotheby's auction. It's a little kitschy for my taste.'

'Where's Zach?' I interrupted Damon.

'I didn't know that you and my uncle were close, Enya.' He said raising one of his eyes brows, 'He's out at the moment.'

'I see why my brother's so smitten.' Damon continued, his attention now on Elena, 'It's about time. For a while there, I never thought he'd get over the last one. Nearly destroyed him.'

'The last one?' She asked.

'Yeah. Katherine, his girlfriend? Oh, you two haven't had the awkward exes conversation yet.'

Well done Damon! I thought. He had clearly said that to get a rise out of Elena.

'Nope.' Elena replied.

'Oops,' He smirked, 'Well, I'm sure it'll come up now. Or maybe he didn't want to tell you because he didn't want you to think he was on the rebound. We all know how those relationships end.'

'You say it like every relationship is doomed to end,' I said which made Damon look at me. There was something in his eyes which I couldn't quiet decipher.

'I'm a fatalist,' He whispered to me, 'Hello, Stefan.'

'Elena. Enya. I didn't know you were coming over.' Stefan said from behind us.

'I know. I should have called, I just...'

'Oh, don't be silly,' Damon iterated her, 'You're welcome any time. Isn't she, Stefan? You know, I should break out the family photo albums or some home movies. But...I have to warn you. He wasn't always such a looker.'

'Thank you for stopping by. It was nice to see you both.' Stefan's voice was lifeless and he kept his eyes fixed on Damon.

'Yeah, I should probably go. It was nice to meet you, Damon.' Elena smiled.

'Great meeting you, too, Elena.'

'I'll meet you back at home, Lena.' I said to her as she walked past me.

'Stefan....Stefan?' Elena tried to get Stefan's attention but once she knew that wasn't going to happen she simply left.

'Great gal. Whoo!  Your sisters got spunk,' Damon said to me before looking at Stefan, 'You, on the other hand, look pooped. Did you over-exert yourself today? Let me guess...hospital.'

'Someone had to clean up your mess. It was just fortunate that Ena was happy to help me.'

'Happy to help aren't really the words I would choose but either way, your welcome.' I smirked.

'Well, were you successful? Did the powers of persuasion work? Remember, if you don't feed properly, none of those little tricks work right.'

'How long was Elena here?' Stefan asked me, completely ignoring his brother.

'Not long,' I replied. I knew he was worried about her.

'Were you worried, Stefan? Scared we may be doomed to repeat the past? Isn't that why you play your little game, "I'm a high school human"?' Damon mocked him.

'Repeat the past? What's that suppose to mean?' I asked.

'Oh, it's a rather fascinating story actually-'

'I'm not playing any game,' Stefan once again interrupted his brother.

'Of course you are. We both know the closest you'll ever get to humanity is when you rip it open and feed on it.'

'What kind of game are you playing, Damon?' Stefan tried to look intimidating but it wasn't a look that suited him.

'Guess you'll just have to wait and see, won't you?' Damon smirked, 'It really was lovely to see you, Enya. Please, do stop by anytime.'

Damon kissed my hand again before disappearing.

Taking a deep breathe, I looked at Stefan head on.

'You wanted an opportunity to earn my trust...here's you're chance,' I sat down on the couch and beckoned from Stefan to join me.

'Tell me everything....I want to know everything.'
