"Where am I?" The new criminal asked the small girl sitting watching the ocean.

"Sin paradise." She said in a dreamy voice, her eyes searched over the ocean. It was as black as coal.

" A Paradise? Sounds like my kind of place." He muttered pulling his hand through wet tangled hair.

"You're here for a reason" she said, her dreamy voice suddenly turning shallow and stony.

"Oh yeah?" he asked.

"You're here to witness your paradise. A life of Sin." She said. Looking into her eyes he saw the corruption of the world. Every part of the Paradise. His screams filled the air.

"You scream now, without only one glance. You won't last long here." she stated, jumped up and skipped merrily away, singing a nursery rhyme in a slow rhythm, making it sound more dramatic. The man didn't notice. He was in too much pain.

This was how everyone met Maria Wandsworth.

-- Extract from 'Sin paradise'

I thought, when you met someone, you would smile, tell them your name and be generally pleasant.

Well, not Jean and the other girl.

"Is this a surprise for you?" I asked, looking at their blank faces. Suddenly the girls whose name I didn't know stepped forward.

"Hi! Welcome to Grace Valley High, are you a celebrity or something?"I coughed, trying to cover my surprise. My mind did a full report, looking through all the times I spent at Mcceath, I hadn't seen them, I traced back to the publishers office. Nope; they were strangers, they couldn't know I was Ocyne Liyla.

"Do I look like a celebrity?" I asked.

"Well, you kind of remind me of a model or something.” I burst out laughing. They couldn't be serious. I stared at their confused face. Sweet potatoes, they were serious.

"Yeah, Are you a celebrity?” Jean asked and really slowly, her expression turned into a glare.

"I'm not a celebrity, I'm just ... normal. I'm Jane Bostan- Dawson, nice to meet you." I smiled. Shy girl looked at Jean, obviously discussing with their eyes if they could trust my word for it.

"Of course, no model would be smart enough to get into here." Jean nodded, as if it all made sense again in the world.

"I'm Matrisha Kent, but everyone calls me Asha." She waved.

"I'm Jean Hew." I smiled at her and went to shook her hand, she ignored the hand. I was starting to think I wasn't welcome in the views of Jean.

"We would offer to show you around, but we're on the student council and we have a meeting before school." Asha said. Jean perked up.

"Yes, and we are nearly late, and I haven't even gotten ready yet." She mumbled, suddenly springing into action and getting clothes from another closet next to the portable one.

It only took them five minutes to get dressed, and Asha had left her frizzy black hair down, it suited her, and it showed off her Latino heritage..

"Bye, Jane!" Asha shouted, and Jean slammed the door shut before I could reply.

I sat on my new bed and mulled them over in my mind. They had thought I was a model. Was that why I wasn't welcome to Jean, did she think I was a rich girl that had bought her way into this school. Why would they think I was a model?

I wasn't extremely thin, in fact, I still had a tub of sweets from Christmas to work off. I wasn't exactly pretty either. Blonde, green eyes, I guess I has an athletic body … maybe.

This school was really going to confuse me.

...................

"Damn!" I muttered to myself, carrying my books. First day of school and I was starting off late. This school was a maze of corridors and I had no sense of direction what so ever. I had even set off early because I knew I was going to be late. Things were not looking good. I ran past the office, thankfully the doors were closed. I ran past my new 'dad's' office -which I made a mental note to remember, after all I was late, and stories had told me of the harsh reaction of 'tardiness' in the American society, and I ran past a lunch room. Not that I believe such stories, but still, it haunted my thoughts.

I was looking back, the numbers of the doors were the wrong way, and I was sure I had missed it, when I bumped into something.

I thought I had turned into a dead end but when I looked up it wasn't a wall I saw, but a pair of dark grey eyes. So dark in fact, I at first thought they were black. Either this was the most beautiful and life like painting I had ever seen, or I had ran into a very charming looking guy.

Somehow, it only seemed logical it was the former, for it couldn't possibly be a boy as handsome as this, surely a painting of a god. He had black hair, darker than his eyes, darker than coal. He stood at nearly the same height, a few inches taller than me, but his shoulders were broad and I had no doubt he could throw me over his shoulder.

"Watch it, you could have damaged me." he snapped, looking over himself for tender spots that could leave for bruising. I couldn't help but snort, the looks of a god always came with the arrogance too, it seemed.

"So I guess you'll be the new girl?" He asked, glaring me down, I couldn't help but return the gesture.

"Yes.” I said. I had to hold myself back from replying in a sarcastic tone. He might be the only person to help me get to my class.

"Well you're late, so you are getting a detention tonight." he said, writing on a notebook that had the insignia of the school on. I nodded before processing what he had said.

"What?" I exclaimed, I was about to explain how I couldn't possibly find my way in the labyrinth of corridors and if I’m honest, I probably would have used some language that caused my façade to crumble within the first day, but thankfully he cut me off.

"Not very bright, Are you? I said detention" His tone told me that he had heard of my fake situation and thought he was talking to a moron.

I didn't need a file or someone to tell me that this boy was top of the class. Obviously the head boy type, why he was patrolling the hall without getting into any trouble. I could tell what he was up to. He called me dumb, which meant he wasn't nearly as smart as he thought he was. Or maybe I was just that good of an actor, but drama was never my forte. I took the note and glanced at it, memorizing the words within a few seconds. It's good to have a photographic memory when your a genius, it is just my camera is set on .5 seconds delay. I have it memorized before I can even blink. The problem with mine is that I can easily forget it. That was one of my small problems. I'm easily distracted. If I got rid of that, my old teacher said I would probably be smartest girl in the world. I can't get over it though. Sometimes I need to get rid of some of my memory, sometimes my memories take others with them.

“Can you show me where my classroom is then?” I asked, crossing my arms.

“Of course, I've been in this school since my fourteenth birthday.” He bragged.

“Oh, I'm sorry. I mean will you show me where my classroom is?” He looked me up and down.

“No.” With that, he turned and left me alone in the hall.

I stared out of the window in class. I was bored.

You want to know why? We were learning nuclear physics. The kind of stuff I learned maybe when I was eleven. Yes, I had found my classroom by the way, it took me five minutes after the swine had left. I decided to put my knowledge to good use and tactfully deduct where my classroom was, I had entered it and been thoroughly embarrassed right up until the end of lesson where I had to ask the teacher directions as not to be late again.

My phone beeped and I looked down to see a new text from lily.

How's not so not so normal school? ;) she sent. I smiled.

that sounded incredibly stupid for a smart girl I sent back

.

stop avoiding the question

I got a detention. And were learning nuclear power basics:P

you Bad girl. Haha. It sounds boring...

I rolled my eyes. She had no idea.

"Miss Bostan?" I glanced up quickly.

"Yes?" I saw the way he looked at me and quickly tagged on a "Sir?"

We used names, as if we were equals.

"Can you tell us, how does a meltdown occur??" I'm sure he was going easy on me, after all that was a question for an ordinary teenager without any intellectual gift to answer.

Every one stared at me. I sighed.

When a meltdown occurs in a reactor, the reactor "melts". That is, the temperature rises in the core so much that the fuel rods actually turn to liquid If the core continued to heat, the reactor would get so hot that the steel walls of the core would also melt. In a complete reactor meltdown, the extremely hot (about 2700½ Celsius) molten uranium fuel rods would melt through the bottom of the reactor and actually sink about 50 feet into the earth …

Play dumb the voice whispered, the voice that always told me when I was about to do something I hated.

"The core overreacts?" I bent my answer at the end to sound more of a question. It sounded stupid in my ears. Like Nuclear Power For Dummies. I hoped Mr Linen catches some painful, 24 hour disease.

"Sir, the temperature rises and causes the walls to melt. The waste leaks into the ground were it is soaked up by the earth and it can poison any water underneath the earth." The teacher tilted his head and laced a smug grin on his lips. As if to say; 'That's how you do it in our school'.

" Very well done Mr Sabonni" Mr barns looked over to the guy I crashed into. The head boy.

The girl next to him was blonde, her fingers painted a gray colour and her eyes, hazel and dozy yet intellectual at the same time.

"Good answer, Anton" she giggled. I raised my eyebrow. Anton was not a popular name in America. He seemed to have some lineage.

“Crap answer, Anton.” I muttered, under my breath, ignoring the little voice that told me when I was doing something I shouldn't.

“Do you have anything to add, Jane?” The teacher asked, I felt myself twitch, and out of the corner of my eye I saw Anton raise an eyebrow.

“I-” You're meant to be a genius, act stupid! “What if the core collapsed?” I asked, finally. I saw the blonde haired chick roll her eyes.

“It's the same thing, idiot.” She snapped, not taking her hands off of Anton as she said it. The teacher nodded, turning a blind eye to the name calling.

“Well, a meltdown is really only the ally term for nuclear accident. If a core was in anyway damaged it could cause major damage.”

“Sir, we learned this months ago.” Someone from behind me shouted, he nodded his head and stared at me.

“Sorry, I'm not used to this kind of education.” I stated, sounding sheepish. In a way it was right, I've never felt so normal before in my life. Anton snorted.

“Now that's the first correct thing she has said all lesson.” He laughed, and others joined in. I wondered briefly what I had done to annoy him to the point of bullying, when something else clicked inside of me. His accent- it was Russian. I knew there was something strange in the name, but he had his accent so cleverly concealed it looked like everyone in the room thought he was American born.

At the end of the class, it was time for PE, and I felt a sudden surge of happiness.

I was always good at sports, my intellect and strength made it easy to analyse and attack weak points in my opponents.

But that could easily be put down to practice in this situation.

St. Philips boys liked and hated me because not only could I beat them mentally, but I could beat them physically too. Of course, I couldn't play Hockey, Wrestling and Rugby, but the sports such as basketball and Chabati I ruled them. The other Mcceath girls... they were girls and nerds at sport.

"Come on newbie, you stupid and slow?" Anton asked as he past. I glared at him, but a smile formed on my lips when his back was turned.

I was being normal, I had my first childhood enemy and the first time ...

I get to seem him burn.

Not only was there a lesson where I didn't have to pretend to be stupid, but in that lesson they were focusing on a sport the England loved, or as the Americans called it, soccer. I kept quiet as they picked teams, I had my hands crossed in a 'V' shape and was looking at my feet. Typically, the team captains were Anton, and a boy named Harred. Harred and Anton were supposedly best friends whom were opposing captains for everything, most because of their own kind of sibling rivalry.

I, being the stupid new girl, was never going to be pick first, but when a girl with a broken arm was picked before me I grew impatient.

"I don't want the new girl" Harred said, it was his turn to pick, and I was the last one left.

"Too bad." Anton smirked and rounded his team up. Harred glared at me.

"What do you play?" He asked. I shrugged, I could play anywhere. He sighed irritably.

"Okay, Jamie- goal, Trent, Millie - back, Henry, Katie and newbie," He looked at me. "Midfield, and I'll be upfront" We all nodded and got into positions.

Coach blew his whistle and Harred passed to Henry, then to Katie, who lost the ball to the opposing team. Trent got the ball and passed to Harred. Soon, a pattern started to form.

Nobody was passing to me.

Every time someone was stuck I was in a perfect position for them to pass it to. Finally Anton got the ball, our line of defence was all in front. All of Anton's team pushed down. Even the goalie. Our team pushed up. Anton dodged Harred, skimmed past Trent, kicked it past Katie and the others were too far away, and I was to the side, It was a draw so far and we had maybe a minute left of the game. Anton thought he got close enough, and kicked the ball, everyone stared in awe. It was a perfect shot... until I ran in front and kicked my leg into a 90o angle, blocking the ball and kicking it straight up, into the air.

I headed the ball, turned my body to face my own goal, and kicked it over head.

Every one was still shocked, and I used that to my advantage, I kicked the ball off the ground and skimmed it past Anton, winking as I passed. Every one on Anton's team broke out of the trance while mine was still shell shocked, tootallstill. Someone dive tackled me, I kicked the ball and high jumped over his legs, Anton was racing up to me, and with all my turns and counter attacks he caught up to me soon, but his attack failed, and I got passed it. Every one was running up to Anton's goal, but they were now all behind me, I ran faster and got to about 15 meters away from the goal and shot. The ball was so fast not even Anton's speed could make it in time. It hit inside the net.

The whistle blew and broke the trance out of my team mates. Anton was looking at me, mouth hanging open.

"That's how they do it in England!" I shouted, pumping my fist in the air. I passed Anton again, heading for the rest of my team, as I made a step passed him, I paused and took a step back, staring at Anton. His mouth was still ajar. I tilted my head and smirked, closing his mouth for him.

"Holy hell, Boston, that was amazing, I didn't know you could play like that." Harred said.

"Just because you're higher on a test level, doesn't mean your better at me on the field." I stated, rolling my eyes. He patted me on the back.

"You know what, You're cool, I could get used to you." He laughed seeing my expression. "See you later, Bostan" He shouted, walking backwards.

"Yo, Anton dude, I beat you, pay up!" I heard Harred shout.

"Shut up man" I heard him grumble, punching Harred in the arm. I laughed lightly.

I think, I just became friends with my worst enemy's best friend.

This is going to be fun.
