"Amira" The soft sound of my name on his lips sends jitters down my spine. I hadn't known he knows name. I continue to stand still with my back facing him, unsure of what to do and how to respond to his call.
I hear the sound of his footsteps as he strides towards me, for every step he took, I took a few steps forward away from him.
I hear his sigh. "Amira" he repeats and again I stay non-respondent. How does he know my name? And for how long has he known my name? How long has he known we were mates?
I sight Mariel walking out of the kitchen with a confused expression on her face.
"Amira, who was it that just entered?" she asks but becomes quiet once she takes notice of the awkward silence and Leo.
"Oh, good morning Beta Leo. It's a pleasant surprise to see you this morning. How are things at the pack house?"
I stand still and mute as they continue conversing. Once they finish their discussion Mariel calls my name "Amira"
My eyes shoot up in her direction "Yes?" I ask obediently
"Have you taken Beta Leo's order? " I shake my head and remorse washes over me as I see the disapproval in her expression.
" I apologize Beta, what would you like? I'll have the chef prepare it quick" she says before I can attend to Leo
"That won't be necessary, I'm not here for a meal." Leo replies
"Oh, is there something I can do for you then?" Mariel asks slightly confused
"Actually, would it be alright if I spoke with Amira, privately?" he asks to my horror.
I inwardly pray that Mariel refuses, but unable to deny a request from our Beta, she agrees and soon, I find myself walking into the woods with Leo in silence.
Of course my anxiety causes my nerves to become overactive. Being near him, although brings my wolf pleasure, makes my human side afraid. I fear being rejected. One of the reasons I hid from him all these years was because I knew he couldn't reject our bond if he had no clue who I was.
I've never thought myself to be attractive, especially compared to the girls I've seen Leo bring home for his frequent one night stands. It seems his type is short, blonde, blue eyes and cute, and sadly I am none of those things, the exact opposite actually. I am slightly rough around the edges. I spend more time working and looking after my sister than I do perfecting my appearance.
"Lets sit here" Leo gestures, directing my attention to the bench he's referring to
I nod obediently and sit close to the edge of the bench, he chooses to sit right beside me, so close that our legs touch. I've never been this close to him and Amina's inappropriate remarks about his good looks were making it difficult not to stare at his handsome features.
I attempt to scoot closer to the edge of the bench to create some space between us, but he places his left hand on my thighs to prevent me from doing so.
I hold my breath and sit still until he removes his hand from my body.
I hear another sigh escape his lips, his facial expression saddens and I automatically assume it's because of my reaction to his touch.
"I'm sorry"I say honestly being the first to break the silence
"For what exactly?" he asks softly and our eyes meet for the first time.
His appearance takes my breath away. He was absolute perfection. He wore thick dark brown hair , his eyes were light brown and his jawline was the masculine and the most attractive feature about him.
My eyes moved to focus on his soft lips. I wanted nothing more than to have them connected to mine and to be wrapped in his warm embrace. I yearned to be comforted and told every thing would be alright. I wanted a shoulder to cry, a person I could trust enough to introduce to my younger sister. Most of all , I simply wanted someone that would love me unconditionally, flaws and all, and I know Leo could be that person but I'm afraid of how he will react once I allow him into my world.
As for his question, I wasn't sure whether to apologize for my reaction to his touch or apologize for hiding from him all these years, maybe both.
Before I could respond he asked an unexpected question "Had I done something wrong?" he says with his jaws clenched .
"What?" I asked taken back.
"How long have you been hiding from me? " he continued with his voice low
"Beta, I...."
"Amira! " he growls , he was clearly frustrated. "If you didn't want me as a mate, you could have saved me the trouble and formally rejected me." he spat
I shake my head frantically "No, it wasn't that at all!" I argue
"Then why make me go through what I went through all these years? I became hopeless and do you know how I felt when I figured out you've been within reach? That you were a pack member?"
I sat silently and allowed him to voice his anger. He had every right to be angry, I was in the wrong and I had no right to argue. The decision I made two years ago was a selfish one. I only cared about myself, his emotions never crossed my mind when I decided I would hide from him.
"It's been six years Amira. Six years of waking up every morning hoping that I would find you. Six years of fantasizing about being able to hold you in my arms and tell you how much I love you. Six years of lies and deceit" he growls, his body rigid
I silently listened to every word he uttered. I was ashamed and was beginning to dislike myself. I hadn't realized how much pain my actions had brought him. While I've only known he is my mate for two years, he's been searching for many more years. Six years is a long time.
"I'm being sincere when I say I'm sorry Beta " I said. I didn't know how else to apologize.
"I don't want an apology, I want an explanation. If your intention wasn't to reject me, why hide from me?" he was no longer angry, just curious. It was evident that he was dying for an answer.
" I was afraid" I say, my voice coming out as a whisper
" What were you afraid of ?"
" I believed you would reject me once you knew I was your mate"
His brows rose in shock "What gave you the impression that I would?"
I sigh " We may both be werewolves but we come from completely different worlds. I thought the moon goddess had made a mistake when she paired us. I'm an Omega and you're a Beta. I thought you would be ashamed once you found out who I was, also I've seen the girls you've been with, I assumed I wasn't your type."
He looked disappointed by what I'd confessed " I never knew my mate would think me so shallow"
My eyes widened and I'm quick to refute his statement " I don't think you're shallow at all. I was stupid to make these assumptions without giving you a chance. I truly am sorry Beta"
" I'm tempted to persist my anger, but I refuse to spend any more time apart from you." He says standing and facing me
" Thank you" I say grateful of his forgiveness
"But, I have three demands"
" Of Course Beta" I state, now standing as well and bowing. I was willing to do whatever to earn his forgiveness. I had wronged him by not giving him chance. It was the least I could do to accept any of his demands.
" First, stop calling me Beta, you're my mate , I want you to address me by my name" he says standing to face me.
I nod in agreement " Okay"
" Second, you're to move into the pack house."
My head shoots up in shock, I was ready to refuse his proposal and open my mouth to argue, but he begins to advance towards me.
" And last" he says stopping close enough to where I could feel his body heat.
He leans forward so his lips graze my ears. Of course with my anxiety, my heart begins to race. My wolf is purring in delight. Goodness, his scent was arousing. I begin feeling like I was losing control, my wolf instincts are surfacing. Heat travels through my enter body as I fight an internal battle to keep my cool and not make a complete fool of myself during my first interaction with my mate.
I had been too in my thoughts to hear Leo's last request from me.
but then he repeated
" Strip" and my eyes widened
